What should be my first Gunpla if I were to start collecting them?
Along with a P-Bandai RG Zaku Minelayer.
That's... just an odd choice. As a Zaku variant it's pretty straightforward, but it's also... just an odd machine. That's designed for such an incidental purpose.
... know what I would really dig? Figure versions of Topp's team's custom/damaged Zakus from the 08th MS Team. I'm surprised they didn't get a MSIA release or anything.
The fact one of them uses a captured Feddie shield is just... one of my favorite touches in any Gundam show.

Yeah, those are pretty nice.
I'm a UC guy. Any grade is fine.
I think it's safe to say he should start with HG and move on from there. But agreed, we really need to know which series you like before we make recommendations.
Also, what kind of suit do you like? Do you prefer Gundams? Feddie-style visored grunts? Zeon-style mooneye grunts? Something realistic and grounded, or something flashy and gimmicky? Personally, I'm a Feddie enthusiast with a penchant for suits that either transform or have a Core Fighter, or some ridiculous melee weapon.
Obvious answer without knowing your better is get the Revive RX-78. It's cheap, a straightforward build, and has enough accessories and posability to be great on your shelf.
If you're more a Zeon grunt guy, the Origin C-Zaku is great. Excellent modern build, a ridiculous amount of accessories and display options, and it's one of the most recognizable suits out there.
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeersonally, I'd go a bit more fun. The Thunderbolt Ground Gundam is super fun backpack is great. Only real issue with it is the crest on its helmet is stupid and looks awful if you use the sticker.
The Hazel is a bit older, but if you do like it, the various Hazels and Advance of Zeta kits all have a level of interchangeability that really rewards you if you want to get more figures.
Pretty much any of the Crossbone Gundams are great.

I second those recommendations. The Revive Gundam's a solid figure and that Origin Zaku just has so many good accessories. I hope you're not a sticker person, because they're a terror on Origin kits, so many tiny sticky bois. It's worse than Thunderbolt kits sometimes.
My first kit was the GM/GM. Yes it's a Build Fighters kit rather than a UC one, but it's a simple build and really posable to boot. And basically it's a good substitute for a GM I until it gets a revive. It's not 1-1 for the old GM, but it's a sharp looking kit (but glue the thrusters in, they attach pretty loose).
@Lark: Man I really want more Thunderbolt kits. The Dom and Gelgoog have such good designs, the Gelgoog's backpack makes me think of the Crossbones Gundams. I know the Acguy's going to get a kit (eventually), but those Dahle's, the Aqua Guncannon, those Goggs, that GM Cannon... I want all of them. I just love the Gogg's design. Mostly because I hate the old one.

Guys, we actually have a Gunpla thread, though admittedly it hasn't been used in awhile. Would you mind taking that conversation there? Because I have no interest in plastic models, but I don't want to drop watch on the main Gundam thread and miss any actual anime-related conversation that pops up.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I don't really like necrobumping so that's why I didn't post there, sorry. I'm kinda wary of still doing so but I'll look into it
Sorry then.
Hey Lark, PM me some Grunt kit recs. I like talking about HGUC grunts.
And on topic, what's everyone's favorite/least favorite Char suits? Even outside the main anime canon.
I'd appreciate Char's Dom more if it actually had an anime or video game appearance outside of Gihren's Greed. Honestly, Char having a version of every Zeon grunt suit just sounds cool, even if its an A Cguy or, god help him, Zudah.
I do like the look of his Z'Gok too, but honestly? My personal favourite will always be the Zeong, that 50s sci-fi B-movie looking motherfucker is just so silly its amazing.
I like the Z'gok the best out of the original series suits. It's just got such a neat design to it.
The Zeong's uniqueness is great. Least favorite is the Gelgoog, I just think it's bland and basically just a better version of the Zaku II, story-wise. Overall favorite is a toss up between Z'gok and Hyaku Shiki.
The Gelgoog is a straight up better version of the Zaku II, in universe. Still my favorite UC mobile suit as its one of only ones to have a double beam saber.

You gotta start somewhere. You mean a beam naginata.
You and me both, dood. It really should be localised one of these days, and I so want the Extreme Gundams to be playable in the 2017 Versus game.
And yay, somebody else actually recognises the guys from Cosmic Compiler!

Spelunking through a Halo Ring is something else...Kind of a little off-topic from the current conversation but G2's EXA-related avatars really reminds me of the fact that I really, REALLY want to read Gundam EXA one of these days!
"Death's vastness holds no peace. I come at the end of the long road—neither human, nor devil... All bends to my will." -Demifiend.While I definitely agree straight up Gunpla talk can go to the other thread, I do think that Gunpla news (specifically new figures from upcoming series) should be mentioned here, since they're usually our first good look at the new mecha.
I don't think I've seen actual lineart for half of the figures from Battelogue.

Because fuck merchandise and fuck yeah actual story.

I recently ordered a Gunpla of Gundam Bael.
I think it was the smaller version.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."High Grade?

Spelunking through a Halo Ring is something else...I'm not familier with the terms yet.
I think my nearby Barnes n Nobles is selling a High Grade Justice Gundam.
I didn't get too good a look at it but the box is really big & it costs around 50 dollars.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I mean, at this point it's not discussing merchandise so much as mechanics, which is an intrinsic part of Gundam at this point.
... I want to respond but I'm just going to point you to the appropriate thread.
Back to the Char question... probably going to be an unpopular opinion but I think my favorite Char suit is the Rick Dias. I love pretty much everything about that design, from the basic look of it, to Char's colors, to its wonderfully goofy Phalanx Vulcans, to its bazooka and beam pistols. I also like the fact that Zeta was already deconstructing Super Prototype by having the Gundam Mk. II already being borderline obsolete by these AEUG Mauve Shirts.

Spelunking through a Halo Ring is something else...I watched part 2 of Thunderbolt. It's pretty good. I liked part 1 better because it had a proper ending while this isn't but hey, what can you do.
Io's girlfriend has the exact same arc as Mu La Flaga lol.
Really appreciated how it shows Daryl struggling with his prosthetics. Nice touch.
I'm sure many others have already said that the tech is way too advanced for the time period it is set in.
Not the exact same arc. If it was, Claudia would be wearing a mask.
Spelunking through a Halo Ring is something else...
@Larkmarn: Ouch, them shipping times.
Right now I'm waiting for a GM III to come in to my hobby store. Hoping it's soon. I love GM's.
Gouf Flight type announced for a release date. But it's a P-bandai kit . Maybe We'll get a Revive Gouf Custom from this kit.
