[up] 1. OK, assuming that you have read it already, what are your thoughts on it?

2. That's definitely a plus. Still, I'm worried about my ability to actually contribute something (and I'm not talking about writing articles; they do suggest alternative ways, none of which seem something I'd be able to do).

3. Yeah, but... There is supposedly a picture in the article whose file name is "flbalanus.jpg", and that immediately made me pull my cursor away from the article's link.

Now there you go again, I've added 2998 to Interface Screw.

edit - I've rejiggered that Interface Screw/Self-Demonstrating Article/Unconventional Formatting section. Self-Demonstrating Article looks to me like a tvtropes trope while unconventional formatting would be a sub-trope of interface screw in regards to SCP.

Im sure im a million years behind on this but I decided to take a break from reading SC Ps today to read the comments sections of said SC Ps and learned the site is...well...dicks. Hostility, bickering, overwhelmingly negative criticism even of pages with decent numbers of positive votes. Name calling. Rampant egos from the important "Doctors" although thats to be expected from people who use their character names as their site admin account names. That was par for the course and i dont hate Mary Sue anyways but wow...just the overall tone of hostility was mind-blowing. Even saw racist-leaning comments from an admin on one. At least in my experience when you call someone of unidentified ethnicity "weeaboo" for living in Japan and maybe being bilingual it isn't that the target is too fond of the Japanese, its that the speaker is racist.

So yeah this is an old thread about an old site and I guess I should let it die away but...I was totally floored when I found out the tone of the community.

SC Ps: Clever, sometimes lots of horror, sometimes little Foundation: Nazi scientists who seem to forget that Protect is in their name, but that just ratchets up the horror* Site Community: Jerks to each other it seems

  • (read the dot as an asterisk because I dont know how to turn off the code) I'm not the only one who thinks the scientists are the scariest part right? Like a killer pinata is scary...realizing that the the scientists must have observed it as it killed dozens or hundreds of children that they abducted just to have killed in a controlled setting to record how much candy it can beat out of them...MUCH scarier. I dunno what site you've been reading, but it ain't the SCP wiki. They cracked down on that shit years ago.

but HOW?

[up][up][up]I find the idea that it instictually knows where the nearest elementary school is scarier than having to sacrifice children to fully understand the workings of this thing and how to keep it contained.

It's even more terrifying when you combine that fact with the other fact that it self-replicates if the victim is below 12 years old. That's, like, the overwhelming majority of the elementary school population!

Utter hilarity that must be read to be believed! Spoilerific summary: See what happens when someone (or several) at the Foundation gets the brilliant idea to mix up not two, not three, but five SCPs together.

On another note... Can someone who has already looked up SCP-835 please clarify in as un-spoilerific of a way as possible whether whatever images that are in the article are genuinely as uber-squicky as the vague entries on the TVT pages imply? I want to read the article, but I'm not sure if I want to risk traumatizing myself. I mean, I've seen a lot of seriously squicky shit online before, but who's to say that I've barely scratched the surface of true squick?

The main article just has a picture of something that looks like coral. The unabridged articles don't have any pictures.

I didn't write any of that.

... Then that makes me question why the TVT entries for this SCP on the main trope list and the Nightmare Fuel subpage consider the picture to be part of the reason it's so squicky.

Whatever. I'll give it a look after I finish my university classes today.

I'd say the picture on its own isn't really that gross, but in that particular context it takes on some very disgusting connotations. It's a picture of normal coral, accompanying an article for a SCP that looks like a normal coral but is actually much, much worse. So after you've read all the articles, you see the picture, and you think "That looks normal but it's actually [spoilers] ew ew ew ew!"

If I recall correctly, the picture was added some months after the article was posted. So the disgusted reaction came from people who'd already read the article and had the broader context to appreciate why it's gross.

I didn't write any of that.

Is it tacky for SCP's to be analogous for real world problems? One idea I had was something called the Eagle and the Serpent. They were a pair of rapidly mutating organisms (they used to look like an eagle and a serpent, but that was a long time ago, and now no-one knows for sure which one was which). They're locked in intense and lasting conflict, with each rapidly mutating to try and defend itself, and to kill the other. If either one is removed, it will violently destroy anything that stands between itself and the cage to get back in and fight its enemy. Remove both, they'll both violently attack anything between them and the cage. To keep a balance, the foundation used to use biological agents on each to help even things out and make sure one didn't kill the other. Unfortunately, over time these improvements added up, to the point that both are a Keter level threat, with the only effective means of containment of one, being the other. So they're forced to keep strengthening the weakest one to keep them at an approximate balance of power.

And directors notes asking what kind of moron made the cage around these two, instead of giving them each their own cage.

So I finally mustered the courage to look up SCP-835's article.

... Man, that is some squicky stuff. Gotta hand it to the two authors of this skip.

I assume the Eagle is to be the US. I'm just at a loss at who the Serpent is supposed to be.

No, the foundation is the US currently. The people who made the cage are the British. The eagle and serpent are the extremist religious factions of the middle east who were jammed together in arbitrary confinement together by the aforementioned British idiots after the fall of the ottoman empire.

I wanted to make the two bleed a liquid with a high potential energy that the Foundation were using, but at that point I realised I had made a Latuff protest sign, so I scaled it back.

I find I like to click on the "Lowest Rated Pages" link and take a look at various bad SCPs that get posted before deletion. Right now one of them's a werewolf with ice powers.

If I remenber well the only SCP based in real life problem is a asian scroll with animals representing countrys, when one guy in the fundation put a cigarre on it, it found out that one north korean politic died in a weird accident, the implication is that with the scroll you can manipulate the event of asian politics by chaning the draw in it. it was quite awsome.

There was also a thing like a week ago where it's a cup of liquid that, when ingested, takes over the host's body. It was allowed to roam the Site freely until it saw someone with a pornographic magazine and went to a "rage state" followed by [DATA EXPUNGED].

There was another one where the description was:

SCP-XXXX is a [DATA EXPUNGED] that is not anomalous or hostile to humans. This is strange, given that it is a [DATA EXPUNGED]

Something to that effect. I think it was by the same author as the "floppy disk what electrocutes you" one.
