Got to Grus on my Chaos playthrough for Strange Journey Redux. As tedious as navigating the place is, I'll be navigating the second half later on to get Alilat and Demiurge. Joy.

Grus is the worst sector. All the scenery and music are reused (the black box says that there are signs of non-human civilizations but we never see any outside of the Three Wise Men's PowerPoint presentation) and unlike Eridanus and Fornax all the story stuff is stuffed at the very start so there's nothing to break up the monotony of wading through the teleporter and one-way door mazes. Let's not even get started on the New Game Plus portion...

Maya ended up being pretty easy, but that was because I had made sure to stock up on demons with Grand Piercer. I think I'm going to do what I did on my first run-through of the DS game and go Neutral but I decided to make additional saves at the decision point so that I can eventually do the Law and Chaos paths fresh without New Game Plus bonuses. I cheesed Gore by putting on the Armor Vest then hiding behind a Girimehkala I happened to have on me and a Doppelganger. It took a little while since the Hero was basically the only one who could deal damage (Doppelganger had Rakunda tho) and once Gore started spamming Charged Adaptations he could only safely attack every other turn, but it worked pretty well. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to immediately go from a boss with 6000 HP to one with functionally 15000 HP though.

The buildings we see are supposed to be the previous civilizations since the previous races commited the same acts as humanity. Its just the graphics made that impossible to tell otherwise.

I can't find my copy of Strange Journey. All this talk about it has made me want to play it again, and I am being stopped by my own messy bedroom. Curses and drat.

I did beat Overclocked though. Gonna do at least one other playthrough before I think about taking out a certain Bonus Boss though.

Have you beaten that particular bonus boss before? If not, then a good grinding location is the bonus boss level itself. Just beat up some mooks, exit the level, then go back in and repeat until you're high enough a level to take him on without being wiped.

Nooope. Haven't even unlocked the ability to fight him. I've beaten Devil Survivor multiple times but this is my first (of many, likely.) clear of Overclocked which is what added the boss.

Got to the part in Grus where you have to decide how to get past the barrier. As usual, I slaughter what's left of Jack's Squad, and I have no regrets.

I have a personal headcanon that the scientist who threw the switch in an attempt to kill both Jimenez and Bugaboo was one of the men slaughtered after the squad was brainwashed.

Now time to step into Grus. Joy.

I've decided I want an SMT game where YHVH gets to pull Not Me This Time. Yeah, we all love beating him up, but given that him being the big baddie has become so obvious it's now been used in the advertising, having him not be a villain would be a great twist.

Isn't that what more or less what happened in Strange Journey?

The Fifth Sphere's a place where the note taking gimmick from the Etrian Odyssey games would've been really helpful.

The Demonee-Ho mission was pretty frustrating going in since I couldn't bring in a full, usable party thanks to the Hero's being at Lv. 68 but once I found a strategy that clicked...so satisfying.

Shekinah nor Mem Aleph want humans to live in SJ as Redux makes clear. Just dead and/or empty dolls blindly singing the Lords Praise forever.

They only went with the song to kill humans for the World of Law as the roundabout method sonce it'd restore thrm.

Still portrayed more sympathetically than YHVH himself though, who usually rants about us regretting it while she laments and apologizes to the Great will.

I thought they were two separate aspects.

The other ones tend to be just as arrogant as YHVH. Like Demiurge in IV who is a calmer version of IV As YHVH. Or every avatar in II that isn't Satan or Kuzuryu (Who doesn't have a mind)

So I've recently been watching videos from Overly Sarcastic Productions, and one video in particular, the one about Cu Chulainn, makes me want a future Shin Megami Tensei game to have Cu Chulainn to actually throw the Gae Bolg with his foot. I also want to see the Riastrad, especially when you read what it's supposed to look like (this part's from Wikipedia's entry on Cu Chulainn):

Navarre's great in Apocalypse. The writing wasn't exactly top notch but the lighter tone, character focus and giant middle finger at the series' conventions was nice for a one-off game.

Also, En no Ozuno is disappointing. He's got some powerful gimmicks but it's not nearly enough to offset a weakness to basic physical attacks. Still couldn't beat him in one round, though.
