Is there any way to influence what skills fused demons inherit from the fusees? So far it seems randomized.

Can you regain sources? I've been holding off on using some of the better ones until I get further into the game.

Yes you can. You can regain one by leveling up the demon whose source you used, though the chances are kind of low. I heard the chances get higher the higher you level up the demon, though.

NG+ you get new ones too.

Okay, what do Demon Sources do exactly? Because I've gotten a few of them by now, but I've no clue what to do with them. Or even what they do.

They provide extra skills to choose from when you use them with with demon fusion.

Oh. That's different.

And the remake didn't let you just choose whatever skills you wanted anyway because...

Because Atlus hates us and thrives on our suffering.

That's one thing I wish they had added. I know Demon Whisper made things a bit too easy but it was a lot less annoying.

x3 Well, you can choose what skills your demons inherit if you use Demon Sources. The original Strange Journey didn't let you pick and choose at all, if I recall correctly.

Jesus Christ, SJ. I'm doing just fine and then BAM! Three unidentified Demons show up and surprise attack me and kill me in one turn before I even get to act.

I lost a ton of progress because I was lax on saving due to the area being otherwise super easy. I'm not even mad, I'm more bemused at how horribly I was violated.

I heard that the maps in Strange Journey Redux can carry over in New Game Plus. Is that true?

It is. When you reload a clear file you can choose to inherit all kinds of shit. Macca. Map completion, MC stats. items and equipment. And it's not all or nothing; you can pick and choose.

I recently beat the New Chaos route. For some odd reason, Mem Aleph's instant-kill seems to have lost its accuracy as I wasn't even at max level and MA missed pretty much every time it was used.

So I finally meet Alex, is it weird that after Dantes brutally murder that I think she's a more competent version of Goro Akechi?

I just got horiffically unlucky and it entertains me. Didn't hit any weaknesses, just Oni's Rampage hitting my MC twice and then the two Gremlins casting Mabufu being more than enough to KO me. And at the time I didn't even know what they were because I hadn't encountered them yet.

I love how you get the sub-app that protects you from status effects after you beat Asura. Way to rub salt in raw wounds, Atlus. Never change.

Seriously though, I managed to beat Asura even with Asura Roga putting 3/4 of my team into Rage mode during the start of the battle. Frost Ace was the one never affected at all during the entirety of the fight. A true hero indeed.

After about eight hours I'm doing the preliminary Bootes investigation. I've been playing on Expert since from what I read that was basically OG Strange Journey difficulty and so far that's held true from what I remember of my return to the DS version two years ago-ish. Downstairs Antlia had a lot of Early Game Hell going on with the multitude of demons with Ma- spells and the brutal Oni gauntlet, but now things are easing up a bit as my own selection of demons and spells is increasing. The Principalities slinging around Ziongas in Bootes are still a bit scary though.

I'm appreciating the updated UI even if it's mostly wearing a Shin Megami Tensei IV suit and other QOL improvements like getting sources sooner. I wish they didn't always start battles off showing demons as blue pixels now though, it makes me nervous. And having the Demonica OS voice pipe up every time you scan something gets old fast. Lack of a dub is quite unfortunate and strange as has already been discussed at length; I can understand most of the random character exclamations and some of them are pretty funny, like Irving declaring "It's time for a coffee break!" when he's building a Main App.
