I think as Odin he plays by, say, Scion rules, and as Kringle he's running under Fae rules (weakness to iron, etc.). They seem allowed to do that. The Queens of Faerie might operate differently as Hecate. No iron weakness there.
Jim has talked a lot about how something that happened 1.000-ish years ago really forced the old guard (i.e old gods) to take a back seat. It was also around that time that Winter became responsible for guarding the Outer Gates.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Any betting man saying that Zeus fucked with the Outer Gates?
Because I can totally see Zeus doing that.
"You can reply to this Message!"He's an asshole, not a moron.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Thats debatable :P
"You can reply to this Message!"I pledge "different values".
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.There's more to Zeus than the rampant philandering in a wide variety of exciting shapes. He was the enforcer of Sacred Hospitality, for one. He's not a complete fucker, and I think that's all you really need to not fuck with the Outer Gates.
Besides, there're plenty of other pantheons with troublemakers in them. Why single out Zeus when there's guys like the Great Sage Equal to Heaven running around? Or Susanoo, who really did come close to ending the world on accident?
I wish to hear more of this one, please. East Asian mythologies get the best names. Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.
It's another name for Sun Wukong.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. That explains that.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.One he picked out for himself, as I recall.
You read Journey to the West? I've been meaning to.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Nah, this is all secondary source stuff. I really should, though.
...Okay, Sun Wukong also gets on the list.
"You can reply to this Message!"To be fair, while he was really obnoxious and definitely deserved to get kicked out of heaven for what he did, Amaterasu could have responded a bit better than "going to sulk in a cave" as well. (While Tsuki-yomi siddles to one side and goes "Related to them? Me? Hell no, who ever gave you that idea?")
That being said, I do wonder how they assorted deities of Hindiusm and the assorted traditional deities and spirits of Chinese religion as well as the various mishmashes that have accreted to Buddhism interact with the Dresden cosmology because while the Abrahamic faiths are the largest by number, those groups (who are somewhat intertwined) are at a rough estimate the next largest group of religious traditions on Earth and while a little more geographically confined are definitely major players within those areas.
Tsukiyomi was probably already kicked out for killing the goddess of food after she squicked him out. Anyway, the real takeaway from that myth is that the Japanese gods think stripteases are hilarious.
With all the avatar shenanigans going around, the Hindu gods must collect mantles like they're beanie babies.
the Japanese pantheon all act like characters in a ecchi rom-com.
Just as a note: Word of God is that the Federal Government is clued-in and the Library of Congress is it's anti-supernatural organization.
I want a story about this so much. Library of Congress is awesome (and its building is probably one of my top five favourite buildings in the world).
Also, this "who would win" human v. supernatural discussion seems to be missing the point that if humanity did manage to take out or serious weaken the Winter Fae, then the Outer Gates wouldn't be protected and everyone would die.
"Shoot them in the face" certainly isn't an answer, anyway. Even when Harry was younger and weaker, in the early books, he could use a shield spell (from his bracelet, on his duster, or cast by itself) to stop a bullet, even though it would still feel like being punched by something large. Mab's far more powerful than her Knight; any bullets you sent at her would end up encased in ice long before they got to you, or your gun would be frozen solid so that it couldn't shoot. Add in the fact that wizards can easily hex any kind of fancy technology even when they're not trying, and most of the military's most powerful weapons are neutralized. Add in that Cat Sith could, by himself, probably wander through the White House and kill the President, Cabinet, and all the Secret Service without even being seen, and it becomes clear that the supernatural can inflict a ton of damage very quickly in ways that mortals aren't immediately equipped to defend against.
On a day-to-day, average-day, basis, I can see humanity having methods to hold their own against supernatural baddies. In an all-out war with the Fae, wizards, et al? There's a faint chance of humans surviving, but you'd lose billions of people in the process.

If it was all of the magic nations vs the humans then we'd probably be screwed. But if it was humans vs a particular nation or power than you can count on the White Council and other allies to balance the scales.
Stand Fast, Stand Strong, Stand TogetherThis is going to be a bit of an odd question, but does anyone ever feel like they're a minor talent of some sort?
Like, for example, I have really bad luck with headphones breaking on me, and I'm really good at guessing things. So, maybe I'm a really minor psychic talent?
“Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable." - Taylor HebertI am immune to people sticking their cold hands up my back and I'm too clumsy to swipe a credit card. Clearly I must be a Jotun scion.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Very unlikely. Even if we assume TDF Style Magic exists, Headphones are fairly simple technical equipment. Since more complicated tech generally more easier breaks (remember, Binder can use a cell phone to a degree?) any magic you assumedly would possess would interfere with more complex things like mobile phones, computers etc first long before headphones would be affected.
"You can reply to this Message!"Well, my phone seems to lose battery abnormally fast and my computer is generally pretty laggy, so if I am a talent, we're talking really minor talent.
“Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable." - Taylor HebertI have bad luck with headphones, too (have gone through a half-dozen or more pairs of earbuds in the last couple years). I think they're just shoddily made.
I theorize that its less "Odin" atm and more "Vadderung". If you take out Vadderrung, Odin might return...but not Vadderung.
Which means you just have the not-nerfed Allfather of the Aesir peeved at you and some very old fashioned ideas on how to express it.
Can you spell "Blood Eagle"? :D
Also, just because a Force was around in one form or another doesn't mean humans didn't change them.
Ie the force that became Mab has been around from the start but Mab is a creation of humanity?
