2013, not 2012. That's what the article says, and that's the only way it makes sense. It can't have a 2012 release date and be announced just now.

Yeah, especially if Avengers is coming in 2012 too.

Quite frankly I'd want Iron Man 3 after the avengers and have nothing to do with them. It was the sheer amount of playing up the avengers and not focusing on the plot and subplots of Iron man 2 that ultimately brought it down in my opinion.+

I think Mandarin may be a bit too un-PC for most filmgoing audiences... it's as if we had a villain named "The Black Guy".

They'll probably rename him, but waaaaay back after Iron Man 1 someone involved in the development (I think it was one of the writers) said they would be shooting for introducing Mandarin at the third film, while giving increasing hints to the Ten Rings plot - granted, there weren't any Ten Rings hints this time around, but...

I wonder if they'll be getting Don Cheadle back. Logic would say probably, but Humor can't resist the idea of Rhodey mysteriously changing appearance after every movie.

Mandarin is definitely going to be in it, Favreau has said multiple times that he really wants to use him but doesn't know how he'll ultimately handle him (i.e. magic or scifi powered rings). Dunno if they'll change his name to make him more PC.

John August must write the script this time. Iron Man 2 suffered without his involvement.

He might not be called "Mandarin" but they'll probably use Khan or something.

Well, if they make it clear "the Mandarin" is just his nickname I don't see the problem with it. It's like Carmine "The Roman" Falcone in the Batman comics or "The Swede" in Smoking Aces. Big criminal having ethnic nickname is quite common in fictionnal Mafia and gangster, so I think most people would not bat an eye.

@Buscemi: John August wrote for Iron man 1? It wasn't listed on imdb, just wondering.

I don't mind The Mandarin as an IM villain, as long as they ditch the Fu Manchu mustache and ridiculous robes.

Then again, I'm the guy who thinks a modern remake of Charlie Chan starring Jackie Chan and a bunch of young up-and-coming Asian actors would be totally awesome, so what do I know?

Lose the robes but keep the stache. We don't get to see enough cheesy supervillain staches as is.

^^ I too think a Charlie Chan movie without the racial insensitivity (or Stepin Fetchit Mantan Moreland, though that might fall under the purview of racial insensitivity)would be awesome. Oh, an

Whiplash from the last movie would be considered a Titanium Man by the end of the movie, right? Becuase I'm thinking Crimson Dynamo this next one to keep the Iron Man clone pattern running and running through all three of his villains rooted in armored science that can stand up to him.

Besides, the Mandarin is too... Magicky for an Iron Man that took place in reality.

The problem is that most people have a problem with Iron Man's villains just being clones of iron man. Personally Whiplash was cooler in his first fight scene than when he simply pulled an iron man suit and stuck whips on it (although that was probably more to do with that fight just generally not looking as cool and having an anticlimactic finish)

The Mandarin with his ten crazy rings would make his powers different enough from Iron Man's to create an interesting dynamic between them I guess...I dunno, Iron Man's villains just don't look as interesting to me imo.

Also, wtf why is Iron Man 1 only 7.9 on imdb? Stupid tdk fandumb.

Dr. Doom should get revamped as an Iron Man villain. It'll bring back a popular character in a better movie and make the universe feel larger, since he'd still be a FF villain. And that way you can bring magic into the story, but gently.

[up]I'm pretty sure that's not possible, since Fox still owns the rights to the Fantastic Four movies, and I'm guessing that includes Doctor Doom as well.

I really really don't want another "two guys in armored suits hitting each other" fight in IM 3. But that's a big problem; Iron Man doesn't really have that many non-armored villains that are his alone.

He's tussled with Doctor Doom, but he's tied to the FF license I'm sure. Immortus or Kang are FF baddies, too.

Living Laser (if in solid light form) would be cool, but he's a bit obscure and may be hard to do in live-action form.

MODOK...No. Just... No.

Why do people hate MODOK so much?

Living Laser wouldn't be as hard to put on the big screen as you'd thing - it'd take more CGI, but they could probably afford good CGI, especially if they subtletize his powers a bit.

I only know modok and living laser from random episodes of Iron Man armoured adventures and super hero squad show (worst examples of their characters I'm assuming). But personally, I'd hate to see Modok in live action simply cause of how weird he looks. Looks really weird and messed up and He'd look really out of place in the Iron man movies.

I'm not sure about living laser either, if the normal living laser is anything like the armoured adventures version then he reminds me a lot of sandman from Spidey 3. I hated sandman from spidey 3.

Shrug. I'm not really an Iron Man fan - all I know about MODOK comes from little snippets here and there - but every time I see him I see a very effective villain, and as for looking weird... well, he would only look out of place if they didn't adapt him to fit the setting, which they do for nearly every character (case in point: J.A.R.V.I.S)- in the comics he's nowhere near as odd looking as lots of other things we've seen from Marvel, and if done right, he'd be no more out of place than some of the freakier looking mutants in X-Men.

I only know about Living Laser from random research after seeing little bits of the old Iron Man show and Armored Adventures - in fact, when I was thinking about them setting his powers to CGI I was thinking of his Armored Adventures counterpart, which if done right wouldn't need to be too flashy (no pun intended) with the CGI.

I... don't really see any similarities to Sandman, however.
