Also agree with Meophist.
We originally merged Informed Ability and Informed Attribute, so splitting them again is not exactly an idea that gives me the warm fuzzies.
I support swapping this with the redirect, making the main title Informed Attribute.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Why should they have been merged in the first place? They are distinct notions.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Because they were being used interchangeably on the wiki; whatever distiction we were asserting in the articles was being cheerfully ignored in actual use.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Unfortunately, the discussion that led to the merge is gone. But here's the crowner for "Rename Informed Attribute?" and the one for Alternative titles that led to it being changed to Informed Disability.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.That crowner seems wildly against this whole idea of them being the same.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickYes, I'd definitely call being ugly an informed ability.
Or wearing blue.
Or being a saint.
The word "ability" suggests a skill, typically a positive one that not everybody has. Its positive. The word "attribute" suggests a facet of a person's being, good or bad. Its neutral. Two different implications.
Merging the two because a few tropers are too stupid to tell the difference was dumb.
Edit: Just clicked on the crowner. Are you fucking serious? Ability and deformity do not cover the entire spectrum.

We should have an informed attribute supertrope, with informed ability, deformity, etc. as subtropes, and zap misuse on sight.
This seems to be the only solution that makes sense.
Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate to^ That's what I've advocated, so you have my wholehearted support on it.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Also what I've advocated.
What's precedent ever done for us?Is this one of those thread where we just need a bunch of people to come in and say "I agree" or "Indeed" to make it clear we have consensus.
If so:
Indeed, I agree.
I agree on the split.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI disagree!
Wait. Strike that. Reverse it.
Yes. I agree. (tongue in cheek)
Ignorance killed the cat. Curiosity was framed.Well, I've recently burned myself jumping ahead and doing stuff just because at that exact moment in the thread it seemed there was wide agreement that it should be done. So I'd rather sit and watch someone else do the split (I don't mind writing the descriptions once it's done).
Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate to..And so it would appear that nothing was done at all. So it goes.
Of course, I'm not interested in violating ill-defined protocol either, so here's a crowner indicating (what I assume) it is that everyone thinks is a good idea.
See you in the discussion pages.Added Triple Elation's suggestion to the crowner.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Bumping, because it has a crowner and has been sitting for a while.
Searching for plausible mechanisms. It has been up for 8 days, it has a clear consensus in favor, I don[t know whether it's still moving or not. Let's see whether it's changed from
+10 (yeas:11 nays:1) Make Informed Attribute a supertrope with subtropes Informed Ability, Informed Flaw, etc.
-2 (yeas:2 nays:4) Make Informed Attribute the primary title for this page.
-5 (yeas:1 nays:6) Cut List Informed Ability and rebuild from YKTTW. at all tomorrow. If it hasn't, we'll call it and do it. How's that?

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I'd like to clarify a difference between Informed Ability and Informed Attribute:
Informed Ability is a character is stated to be good at drawing, but their artwork in work is either pretty bad or not shown. Informed Attribute is a character who supposedly likes to draw, but is never shown drawing or looking interested in drawing. The Attribute character might suck at drawing but that's irrelevant to the attribute.
Tahnk you for bumping thiis one Peteman. I'd completely forgotten about it. And the crowner options have moved +1, -1, -1 in the nearly a month since the last time. This one is decided. I'll write up the Informed Attribute supertrope later tonight or tomorrow, then could use some help sorting and moving wicks and examples.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.This thread expired after 60 days of inactivity.
*NECROMANCY*
Well, not quite. Seems clear we can act on this one. I'll be away during the next two weeks or so so I won't be able to deal with it, but let's at least get it started.

Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toWell, this one has a clear result in the crowner. Let's get to work on an Informed Attribute supertrope.
Perhaps it might work best as an index for the start. Collect all the subtropes of things that people tell but don't show about a character.
