What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

Oh, I see what you mean. No, I didn't literally mean fit, I mean that the land areas are similar.
The total landmass of Spain is way less than the whole California
It makes you wonder about the different considerations about distance between Europe and America
Haw Haw HawIndeed, it does. The total area of the US is much greater than that of the EU, and yet, the EU has 200 million more people.
And people wonder why the U.S. has inefficient mass-transit systems.
I always thought that one of the main differences between Russia and the USA was the management of the space.
While Russia is certainly huge, the distribution of resources was proven better in also huge countries like USA or Canada, while still having been Russia a Socialist country with planned economy. North America was proven to be more efficient, though
Haw Haw HawLack of spending on it is the real answer.
Is an answer, certainly.
Haw Haw HawDiferences between Europe and Americas?
My state alone is gigantic.
Russia can sometimes look like it has good infrastructure because you almost never see anything outside the part of Russia that is usually considered to be in Europe. Something like 80% of Russia's population live there, so everything is focused there.

The Great Northern Threadkill. No, just pieces so expensive that buying a new one is a better option.

Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.complanned obsolescence has been going on since mass production sadly. Hence stock phrase 'they don't make them like they use too'.
hashtagsarestupidAs I understand it, pretty much everybody in Russia lives in the European part, but mainly because nobody wants to live in the rest, and the resources, while valuable enough for Russia to hold onto, aren't worth contending with Russia's military over.

Fresh-eyed movie blogJust so that we are clear on how badly we are being ripped off: Back in 1901 the Livermore fire department had a light bulb installed above one of it's door ways. It's still going.
Brian Blessed is bad-ass. Not only was he in Blackadder, but he's also a mountaineer who has scaled many high peaks. He tried to reach the summit of Mt Everest three times, and the third time he almost succeeded but turned back to save another mountaineer's life. He's been to the North Pole on foot. He knows enough about football that he was hired as an expert to cover the 2006 World Cup.
The list goes on and on. He was a pretty good boxer in his youth, and his sparring partners include the Dalai Lama.

I guess we could go... wherever we please....Well, I'll add that to the list of things I didn't know until very recently. Thanks.
Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.@Best Of: It took you this long to notice how badass Brian Blessed is?
...I never saw a skit and even I knew that. XD
But so is Chuck Norris, so eh.

Quest 64 thread
I don't think it's accurate, because if the total landmass of Britain is less than the total mass of Oregon doesn't mean necessarily that one fit into another, you should warp the mass into two similar masses to do it, on the other way, if both were too puzzle pieces, they wouldn't fit...
Britain it's stretch and long, Oregon it's almost squarish...
ALGEBRAIC!
