What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

Just a simple man, making my way through the Tropes.>suggested differences between "grey" and "gray" from several days ago
tbqh I'm not convinced either of those is true. I mean I don't have any data and my brain glosses both spellings directly into the color without retaining the information on which vowel it had so I can't really be confident. But nobody's cited any data to support the "A in America and E in Europe" thing either.
As for stuff versus light, I believe it came up that the etymology of each spelling derived from one usage or the other? Allegedly, anyway, since I don't recall that person citing their sources, either... It's moot now, of course, because nobody observes that distinction in usage anymore if they ever did.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. Why did it get removed before?

I didn't know Víctor Hugo Aguilar is a satanist.
There was a screenshot of his Facebook page where his bio said "Satanás es mi pastor" ("Satan is my shepherd"), but now I can't find it either.

The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableBeing laid off isn't a euphemism for being fired. It depends on who's believed to be at fault: if the company blames you for something undesirable, you're "fired", but if the company believes they're at fault for it, you're "laid off".
"Rarity, are you okay? We gotta get you and your friends outta here soon!"I never seen any company ever admit any wrongdoing so I never saw it as an euphemism, just a different way to say it. Companies dont care to cover their tracks like that and it would be self evident anyway.
