Sometimes things like that just happen. J.R.R. Tolkien used to make a fuss about the distinction between allegory and applicability after people kept insisting that Lord of the Rings was meant to be an allegorical tale about World War II. It wasn't, but people find themes even where the author never intended them to be.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.For a while, I wondered if anyone had already done fan art for Nie R new project.
I bet there's more at pixiv (probably also known as Japanese Deviant Art).

So how does Nier compare to Spec Ops The Line in terms of themes, tone, and Playing The Player?
I haven't played Spec Ops The Line, but most of the Playingthe Player happens in New Game Plus and onwards. Before that the first runthrough parodies and lampshades a LOT of videogame conventions. MC draws attention to how bafflingly designed one of the areas is, and there's an entire area and set of characters created seemingly to mock how arbitrary videogame conventions are.
Nie R is without a doubt the most relentlessly oppressive and dark JRPG i've ever played, though it's actually remarkably optimistic in its portrayal of humanity (almost exactly like Evangelion, which is a creative influence on the director). Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and other such games pale in comparison to this game in that department.
tbh you probably should just play the game yourself because I think going into as blind as possible is best. i'm assuming prices on it have been raised now that we have a sequel AND d3, but it probably still isn't higher than like 20 bucks. and for one of the best gaming experiences i've ever had and my favorite jrpg plot of all time, it's more than worth it.

Robot Mountain is back! Things:
- The story takes place in the future of the first title, so Gestalt and Replicant are in the game. (After Ending D)
- Nier, Yonah, Kainé are names that will likely have a chance of being mentioned in the upcoming game. Yoko says that Emil will appear. Accord from Drakengard 3 will also be mentioned by name. While they didn’t reveal the name, they say that ____ will be in the game as well, and Dengeki were really surprised to hear about this.
- Yoko says that he believes the game will have a happy ending, this time around. Platinum Game’s game designer Takahisa Taura for Nier 2 reacted with a “huh?!” and Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito reacted by saying “from what I’ve seen in the scenario, how the heck is it supposed to have a happy ending?! I can’t imagine how,” to which Yoko responded to the two with “I’m telling you, it’ll be a happy ending. You don’t need to look so worried.”
- The “Robot Mountain” will also be in the second game, but it remains unknown whether it’ll be in the same spot.
- The above concept art that depicts a ruined city is not Shinjuku.
- This is a shopping mall area where Robots may linger. There will be other areas like desolated theme parks, and other ruins in the game.
- The concept art of the forested area is called “Castle of the Forest” in its current development stage.
- The above symbols read “Doll, Human, Machine,” but we still don’t know the significance behind the three words.
- Even if you’re not great at videogames, you’ll be able to beat the game, and it’s being balanced to have enjoyable action. Taura says that this will be the basis of the project.
- A lot of the staff from Platnium Games actually really loved Nier, and they’re working on the new title with much respect to the previous one. They couldn’t share other details, except that it will be “very Nier”.
- There will be multiple playable characters, and you’ll go through the game as you switch through them. (According to other interviews, there will be three playable characters.)
- Instead of being able to switch through different characters whenever you want, they’re thinking about a style that will switch according to how you progress through the game, and for new games, and such.
- Characters with the same weapons will have different actions. They’re working on something that will allow you to connect your combos.
- There will be other things to ride besides boars.
- Bravely Default designer Akihiko Yoshida has been busy with his work at Cy Designation, but after he was influenced by a certain enthusiastic female Nier fan from their staff, and even from the CEO who is a huge Nier fan, he decided to take the offer.
- Taura says that he had ideas for smartphone and Play Station Vita games, but he has strong feelings for Nier so he wanted to make a compromise for it. After gathering the best staff, he was determined to give it all he’s got for the new Nier game.
- Yoko says that he believes Nier is something that is valued beyond being a game, and he still even the creators don’t know exactly what is it that attracts people to it. That said, he doesn’t feel like he’ll be able to reproduce that same exact feeling in the new game. For that reason, he believes that it will be a new Nier with a different taste to it.
- As far as development goes, the new Nier game’s scenario and plot is practically done, and it’s more of a “Yoko’s world” than before.

i really hope they put in an artbook for this game or something like they did with bravely default and ffxiv. yoshida's art for this will be legendary.
I really really want to explore that theme park.
i. hear. a. sound.i hope we get to explore more of the ruins of the old world in general. the junk heap in the first nier was cool and the "shadowlord's castle" turning out to be a building in Tokyo was mind-blowing.
I think that the protagonist might be one of the YoRHa.
A happy ending, that spring in mind some ideas...
Here comes YoKab the genius writer!!
Anti-Villain: I am the light brigner, I shall Mercy Kill this fucking Universe!
[Insert destruction and painless deaths cutscene here]
Accord: Well, that's it for this branch, no more suffering, but maybe there could be a better one, should cut the branch off and...
Player: Why are we bothering with the branches of an alternate timeline where we could wrap it up and GO BACK TO THE MAIN ONE?!

Accord is kind of a dick, yeah. That scene where she grabs Zero's boobs was kinda funny but also pretty gross and the most annoyingly anime thing in that game.
The YoRHa? Was that Zero and her sisters from Drakengard 3 or something?

The YoRHa are female combat androids unleashed by humanity from the moon thousands of years after NieR to combat alien androids.
...And again we're reminded this is all connected to Drakengard.
Only in such a universe would that sentence ever make any amount of sense.
A part of me is still thinking this will end up being like the end of Bioshock Infinite, what with this referencing other universes (Drakengard-verse) thing and such...
Behold, the best reaction:
Finally decided to start playing the game.
It seems to be influenced by the Zelda series a bit (didn't realize it names the main character by your profile name), and is pretty decent in terms of combat. Nothing amazing, but serviceable.
Though the fact that the game teases you with unlocking all these awesome powers at the beginning only to take them away was kind of mean. That, and this game is almost as obsessed with blood as Bloodborne was.

there's a more overt (and in fact pretty blatant) zelda reference later into the game.
enjoy the ride :'p the game only gets better and better as time goes on

One thing I hope Platinum nails would be the boss battles, despite that the gameplay weren't the best, they where a highlight of the original.
Also, when you get to the mandatory fishing come by the thread if you can't seem to get it working. That seems to be the point where everyone gave up on the game.
Hyped for Hyperdimension Neptunia V 2Found a little bit of tidbit, one of the central themes of the game is supposed to be something called "agaku". The word seems to be translated as either struggle or a desperate fight.
Dude, why???
Also, can anyone understand what this is saying?
i really don't think he is. he's the same guy who said that drakengard 1 was terrible and that he thinks his fans deserve his brutal honesty above anything else.
