Yeah, there's nothing wrong with liking Fairy Tail. I'm personally more indifferent to it than actively hateful towards it.

But boy was that You-tuber annoying. I get defending a show you like but that person takes it way too far & I'm pretty sure they were stalking the comments. They even posts videos with the tag under it saying "Anyone who uses their freedom of speech to bully or harass will be blocked". Seriously what kind of bullshit is that? Its pretty obvious their definition of bullying is simply a difference of opinion.

I don't hate it as much as I did Naruto, but that may be because even when I liked Fairy Tail, I never saw it as high art, just a fun series.

It hit it's high point during Edolas I'd say, then has been steadily falling since that time. That's all there is to it, and now, it's wrapping up. Though I imagine we might still see some of those spin-offs that were shown before.

Speaking of Spin-offs, I know Fairy girls focuses on Lucy, Erza, Juvia and Wendy, but what about Mira, Cana, and especially Lisanna? Why not use this story as a way to develop some of the other girls in the guild?

Poor Lissanna was brought back rather pointlessly, and that spin off was a good opportunity to do something with her that was ultimately wasted.

A Strauss sibling spin off would be nice. A spin off with Cana could elaborate on her supposedly close relationship with Gray.

Again surprised this series doesn't have a big budget game. Isn't Fairy Tail successful?

I'd play a Warrior or Storm based game based off this manga.

It's weird. Despite all the media branching out that Fairy Tail gets, there are very few games, like you said, and the movies have animation barely above TV quality. Even series like Little Witch Academia are getting full console games! I'm not expecting Fairy Tail Fighters, but you'd expect something like a CC 2 Arena Fighter or maybe even a Musou.

Here is an analysis on Natsu and why Luffy works better as a Goku Expy. I thought it was quite interesting.

Random thought: Lucy should be physically 19, and chronologically 26.

I thought all this time she was 18 / 25, but then I remembered her birthday was apparently the same day as the first day of the Grand Magic Games (where she got cheated out of her victory against Flare). So she actually turned 18 before the second time skip.

Another thought is Brandish. It occurs to me that she's just not a particularly passionate person by nature; seems to do mostly whatever she feels like regardless of what others think (like shrinking her own comrade when he basically had FT at his mercy). In fact, the only times she seems particularly murderous or violent is when she under the mistaken belief that Layla was the one who murdered her mother. Brandish's arc is extremely poorly written, and she comes off as a big ass traitor compared to her fellow Alvarez mages, but it's entirely possible that in addition to being plain ass lazy, she dislikes hurting people by nature. She can instantly shrink or grow anything, which means she doesn't have to inflict harm on others. It's only when you've pissed her off that she gets aggressive enough to kill.

After finding out that, rather than Layla deliberately killing her mom, her mother had in actuality inadvertently killed Layla, she loses what little motivation she already had, and just goes True Neutral (she seems to have a sliver of loyalty to Alvarez, likely due to Zeref probably doing her some kind of solid)

Of course, I'm just theorizing. The real explanation is that Mashima botched that entire thing from beginning to end. I'm just throwing this out there for shits and giggles.

That was actually a good video. I'm looking forward to see what else he does.

Ok the thing I got with Natsu is that he more or less lacks agency & consistency in his goals & actions. He is rather unimpressive & his main motivation doesn't gel well with how his life & career are as well as the fact that he is in a clueless mystery so there's no way he himself can move the plot along.

Heh that was a good comment on how Hades' forces apparently have more freedom than the Guild who talks about how they live the most free lives.

That video also got me thinking about how at least the Goku''s and Luffy's stories acknowledged their selfishness as flaws while Natsu comes off as a hypocrite.

On unrelated note, this would have been an awesome final fight.

Phew. It was interesting, and made a good point (I never gave any of that stuff about Edolas much thought at all), but that's way too much effort to put into something you don't even like.

I'll applaud him for his thoroughness. His argument for Fairy Tail's flaws is certainly more thought out than mine.

I liked that video and await the next one. He managed to explain why Natsu's character doesn't work as well with the tools Mashima laid out for the series, in a way I didn't think too.

Oh my God I just found out/realized this: The 7 D-Slayers will never become true Dragon Slayers because there are no more dragons left, there all extinct cause of Acno.

Acno himself doesn't count because he is not an actual dragon, he is a human who gained a dragon transformation though magical mutation.

Meaning they are not actually slaying a dragon for real, its all for naught.

I mean, he's still a fucking dragon; just because he was once human doesn't change what he is now. He legitimately transformed into a dragon just like Irene did, the two of them are merely taking on a human appearance.

Irene's appearance was said to be fake; he just seems to be able to switch back and forth as he pleases. Not considering himself human seems to have less to do with what he actually is and more just his hatred of humanity.

He seems to hate both dragons and humanity, which explains why he's so hellbent on killing Dragon Slayers.

...Dragon Cry explained why he hates dragons (poorly, but still) but why the anger towards humans?

Then again, I suppose I already know the answer.

I'm sure they did something, because they always do.

I take it up as arrogance, he hates everything because of how worthless they are all in comparison to his Godly might.

I mean in Injustice 2 Gorilla Grodd called out Brainiac's interest in humanity by saying they are a virus & thus need to be exterminated. Acno prolly posses' similar feelings.

His desire to exterminate the remaining D-Slayers can also be his desire of wanting to remain top dog & maintain his uniqueness. Natsu & co are the only beings who can possibly challenge him & threaten his status as the last Dragon so its most likely an ego thing.

Still he's not technically a dragon. Even if he's got the form its just not the same feeling really.

I loved how that video pointed out the flaws of Natsu's character. I always wondered why I just did not like despite his apparent similarities to Luffy, but that video was able to lay them out pretty well.

Mashima wanted to create the next big Shonen protag, but had a setting that was just antithetical to it.

Here's a sentiment I occasionally see that I kinda agree with: Mashima writes some potentially gay pairings like Sting x Rogue or Wendy x Chelia way better than some of the virtually canon pairings that he's actually pushing.

In regards to the so called Big 4,

• I'm fine with Nalu, but Hiro needs to learn that throwing Natsu into Lucy's tits for the umpteenth time isn't really romantic. Special mention goes to that Stone Age omake, which disgusted even several proud supporters of this ship.
• Gruvia annoys me. Even after Gray explicitly turned her down in 338, she still obsessively goes after him. There are already plenty of critics toward the ship, but I'm sure that it would be almost universally condemned if the genders were swapped.
• Gajevy is fine too. I know that there are people who are put off by their initial encounter where he beat her up, but Gajeel has shown a huge amount of development as he slowly gains the trust of her and the guild as a whole. Plus, there are plenty of ships in other series where the girl beats up the guy for petty reasons and never apologizes.
• Jerza is fine too. He's shown a great amount of remorse for his actions and anxiety about whether or not he even deserves her. Some forced moments like with Nalu, such as chapter 529 when they're thrown on each other twice even though nobody else is losing their balance.

Of the 4, the only one I like is Gajeevy. It's the only one with actual progression I feel. Even then, Levy doesn't have that much of a character.

They're all pretty poor tbh, but I guess the latter two are the least bad ones. And perhaps the reason Sting/Rogue and Wendy/Chelia come off as better written is because Mashima doesn't inject those dynamics with any of his forced Ship Tease moments like with the others.
