I could have sworn that first part went differently when I played it, though. I don't remember that race at all, or gathering food. I do remember fighting Riku at some point, but that never happened. Did they change it in the Final Mix?
Optimism is a duty.I still feel embarrassed that i got stuck on Deep Jungle's vines, like I thought you had swing manually, plus my timing was terrible
New theme music also a boxThe race always happens, as well as gathering the resources. There's an optional fight with Riku that you can do that doesn't impact much.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeThe race was pretty awkward for two reasons: the tree tops don't have very clear edges, and the cable ride is unintuitive. You have to jump to grab the handle, but STOP pressing forward, or he will jump off. Then when you arrive at the other end, you just keep hanging on the handle, instead of letting go automatically.
By the way, that's a BIG throne room you have there, Mickey. Are you... Compensating for Something? A Napoleon Complex, perhaps?

Optimism is a duty. You have a big throne room for all the courtiers usually
New theme music also a boxI think Mickey's puts a lot of actual and fictional throne rooms to shame, though.
Also, that first boss fight in the dream realm thing was really boring. I remember it being much more exiting, with quick time events and everything. Or was that KH II?

Optimism is a duty. It's so weird Disney Castle had a rather ominous battle theme.
Ah, I remember swatting these little buggers like flies... I sure hope Donald and Goofy stop barely missing me soon now...
Optimism is a duty.Donald says: no emo faces in MY team.
On another note, I noticed how Sora doesn't even give a second thought to the dissapearance of Selphie, Wakka, or Tidus. Or his parents, for that matter. Though considering what happened to poor Pooh, maybe he simply can't remember them.

Optimism is a duty.Disney Castle doesn't have a battle theme. And when the music is replaced by the early-game Heartless battle music, it's to instill a sense of foreboding because Maleficent messed with the Cornerstone of Light.
Yeah, that song is "Dance to the Death", which plays during a couple boss/mook fights and some other moments.
@Deep Jungle vines
You can skip doing that. You can actually skip all the minigames there.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yeah, KH Heartless boss musics fit into two camps. First-half and second-half.
The first half musics were ones like "Dance to the Death," "Vim and Vigor," and "Desire for All That Is Lost," which played during early-game boss fights and lengthy battles (Disney Castle, Hollow Bastion first visit).
The second half musics were "The Corrupted" and "The Encounter," which played when you were fighting Heartless bosses and Heartless users respectively. That is, the Heartless themselves, versus those who tried to control them.
Contrast with Organization XIII, who had the same themes throughout the game ("Tension Rising", "The 13th Struggle," "The 13th Dilemma", and in FM+, "The 13th Reflection")
Qui odoratus est qui fecit."Vim and Vigor" and "The Encounter" are actually for Disney bosses (except for that one time for "Vim and Vigor").
"The Encounter" also shows up a couple times during the game's first half.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? For Scar and Oogie Boogie, yeah, Heartless Controllers. But they both showed up in worlds you could skip till the second half (Hallowe'en Town and Pride Lands, which you didn't even have to do at all, so long as you went straight to Twilight Town from Agrabah).
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.Scar and Oogie Boogie never control the Heartless. Though Scar becomes a Heartless, so *shurg*.
I'm also pretty sure you have to do one of Halloween Town or Pride Lands before the second Hallow Bastion trip is triggered.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Oogie's supposed to control the Heartless, he's in Maleficent's crew.
He can only get two gargoyles so I guess he's not very good at it.
Also somehow the power of darkness turns him into his house.
EDIT: And in II he can make Santa's workshop make little presents with Emerald Blues and Wight Knights in them.
He says "Hope you like the Oogie gifts I picked out for you!"

I mean in the context of II.
Though I forgot about the presents. Fuck those, by the way. When I played Crit the first time I died so many times on the Oogie fight because of them.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Hmm, I never could be bothered with this in the past... but is tinkering with the Gummi ship worth it? At all?
Optimism is a duty. You can get through all the required gummi missions with just the basic ship. The extra missions need some tinkering.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Alright time for my seventh playthrough of KHI. Maybe I'll man up and do Proud Mode this time.
Never letting go of Staff though.
Well I went Proud. Pray for me.
Hello best opening hour of basically any video game.

First world is Alice in Wonderland. Its a shame the models move so wooden, it really takes something away from the source material. Oh well.
Optimism is a duty. The models for KHI are really high quality for their time, just look at the bounce of Sora's clothes as he moves. Plus the art style is on point with big eyes and even bigger shoes, making a perfect blend of Disney and anime.
And I loved Wonderland. It felt like such a perfect opening level, like Bob-Omb Battlefield.
The animation was never going to be on Disney's level, especially at the time, Disney has some of the best artists in the world.
Them being used kinda poorly is a much bigger problem, IMO. KH 1 had it better than many of the following games since the Disney villains are the main threat for most of the game, but the individual stories of the worlds are not that interesting.
Until I got the hang of the first game, the race was the only thing I could beat Riku at.
