A bit of a random question, but I'm curious - does anyone here remember the mid-to-late 00's KH fandom?

When fanfiction was good and nobody knew what the hell was going on in the plot.

mid-to-late 00's was when i joined up. the first KH game i ever played was Days and i had no idea what the heck was going on.

My first game of KH was 358/2. And I am ashamed to say that was my only one until KHUX.

The only thing that's half AP right now to my knowledge is the Queen Bee Raid Boss refight at specific times of day.

One of my earliest KH fandom memories is reading about confirmed worlds/mechanics for KH2 on Neopets circa 2005. That was back when one of the released screenshots showed the 1000 Heartless fight with a couple of Behemoths in it, and I was disappointed when they ended up not being in the final version of the game. I also remember reading speculation about who "BHK" was around the same time.

I was only peripherally involved in the fandom in the pre-358/2 Days era, but it was definitely a wild time. Sooooo many Organization XIII ships and memes.

Ah, the days of BHK. When phones were for talking to people.

I only got in shortly after KHII released in the states, so I missed out on BHK. But I was here for TAV theorizing, highschool A Us with the Organization (minus Axel and Roxas) as faculty - and all the other Organization shenanigans on that note - and everything since.

My favorite TAV theory from shortly after FM+'s secret ending popping up went along the lines of "Aqua is Kairi and Riku's daughter, Ven is Sora's kid, and Terra is Zack Fair." Obviously this was before we knew their names. I also remember a theory about Vanitas and MX that was actually really close to what MX tells Terra in-game, minus the stuff to do with Ven.

My first game was the very first one. I'm pretty sure this was before the release of KHII since I also recall the discussions of BHK and BFG.

I joined the KH fandom shortly after/before the release of KH 2 FM, so I was here for all the TAV and MX/Vanitas theorizing before we even knew all their names. All we had to go on was the secret ending to KH 2 FM and everyone was super excited :'p

People guessed MX possessing Terra pretty early on. It was kind of obvious.

I got KHI at launch and have been engrossed ever since.

I got into it around the time Days was coming out. I got the GBA version of Co M one day at Gamestop, which cemented my interest.

So what do you guys remember about the culture surrounding the fandom? I saw some things back when I was first getting into it...

Yaoi fangirls are forever.

I'd always assumed Terra just fell to the dark side or something rather than getting outright possessed, and that Vanitas would turn out to be the Xehanort that would eventually become Heartless-Ansem and Xemnas, having been decisively defeated and remembering only his master's name, which Ansem the Wise interpreted as Vanitas's own name. So I was pretty far off the mark.

I remember the massive amounts of Kairi hate.

I was first exposed to Kingdom Hearts by a friend and played it and KH II over at a friends house or when he came over to visit. So the series has a lot of charm for me given it brings back a lot of found memories. I wouldn't own either of them until I got a PS 3, now I own KH 1, KH 2, KH Re Co M, & KH 3D. I know I have 358/2 days somewhere but I can't find it. It's one of my favorites.

Wasn't particularly close to the series even after playing Days (exclusively Nintendrone back then), though I do distinctly recall Org XIII getting a lot of love. Up to and including spinning Sora as Ron the Death Eater on occasion.

I remember the "Terra killed Xehanort and took his place" theory. Good times.

I got into the series with II a couple years after it came out, and played the shit out of it. I never really interacted with the fandom until recently, though, and even then it's mostly via this thread.

There were a LOT of different theories about all sorts of things back then because we knew relatively little about the greater backstory. People also tended to be wary of any guesses that added even MORE complications than we had back then.

If people knew that time travel was actually going to be a thing they'd most likely flip their lid :'p

I've been with this series since the very first game. I remember seeing the trailer for the original version on a PS 2 demo disk. So fucking hype. Gave me goosebumps then and still gives me goosebumps now. I blame the music.

I don't think I really got into the KH fandom until I was around my teenage years(I'm currently 17 and I didn't really get into being online until much later when I was pre-teen). I didn't know much about the whole hype surrounding Org XIII nor the hatedoms for Sora and Kairi.

I do remember being tricked onetime by (IIRC) Game Informer having a fake article in one of their magazines saying that KH 3 would involve Nintendo crossover with a edited picture of Sora, Mickey, and Mario in his Sunshine outfit mixed with KH's clothing style. For the longest time, I thought that was serious and that we'd be getting a KH 3 with Nintendo characters.

Yeah, I remember the Mushroom Kingdom Hearts thing.

I had KH 1 before I had a memory card and was savvy enough to ask my equally unsavvy parents for one. I wasn't even ten years old but I had the patience to reach Agrabah in one sitting. I also had Final Fantasy X and could get to Luca.

I play KHI on a friend's PS 2 that didn't have a memory card. My solution was to just never turn it off.

I managed to get all the way to the Final Rest.

Thanks to getting a string of Double Lux fights against the Queen Bee and Queen Bee Omega, I shot all the way up from level 110 to level 135 over the course of the weekend.

Also, is the whole Power Bangle scene foreshadowing?

It made more sense in its placement in the jp version

I actually got into Kingdom Hearts because of Tarzan, ironically enough. I saw a commercial featuring a fight with Sabor and since that was my favorite movie growing up, I couldn't buy it fast enough.
