I'm guessing the initial reason for her existing was to give Roxas someone sympathetic to talk to in Days, and to make the game slightly less of a sausage fest.
I think you meant keyfabe.
Hah! MX knows what's up.
booo
we already had axel though.
i mean, i think that wanting to give him one MORE to complete the whole trio motif they have going on was probably part of the reason, but yeah.
I mean, if they wanted to do a story of Roxas' time with the Organization, I think they wanted a new element to introduce.
Of course, I was introduced to the series around the time Days was coming out, so I was perfectly fine having her introduced.
HA!

Oh God! Natural light!I can't wait for the Angle where Sora and Riku have to have a ladder match to see who gains custody of Xion.
TNA is awful.
I'm sorry for bringing up Rustling. It's just...
My jimmies.
They're rustled that we still don't have that trailer. It's not as bad as the wait for the Doom 4 trailer that I was only good enough to watch in the summer, but still.
Maybe this is their ploy. They tease us with the knowledge of something...
And keep it from us.
Such a lust for promotional materials...
the thing for me is, they already had about 13 characters (well, more like 7, but you get my drift) they could use to create drama and interesting situations. as it was, roxas already had a compelling enough reason to leave by the end, so introducing ANOTHER character seems a bit weird.
i don't terribly mind xion or anything (as far as her character herself is concerned, i'm fine with her), i'm just saying that she feels like an unnecessary inclusion give what they already had to work with.

I think Nomura's thought process was that he needed something to stave off the Ho Yay between Axel and Roxas and get around the whole "Roxas doesn't know/understand anything about what's going on" plot point to have a conflict. At the very least, her existence (and Last Request) filled the Plot Hole about why Roxas would go back to TWTNW after he ran away.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Who?
COM Axel isn't exactly the pinnacle of sympathetic character writing.
More to the point, asking "Is there any point to Xion's existence?" might as well be asking "Is there any point to Days' existence?". The story provided a desperately needed justification for all of the seemingly random drama surrounding Axel and expansion on what the often romanticized Organization was really like, and Xion happened to be integral in structuring that narrative in a believable way.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyPlus it has probably the most well-established and developed friendship in the series. The Days trio are my favorite because of it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?My issue isn't as much her existence as it is the fact that she adds yet another character to a series that already has enough trouble as it is focusing on all of its characters. Not to mention adding another layer of kudzuness to the story by adding a Ret-Gone plot on top of it.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Eh, it's not so bad. I mean, it's not like it was erased from time, it's just that it's something that nobody remembers.
Oh God! Natural light!I'm not entirely sure Nomura was aware of the Ho Yay.
Frankly, the big thing that makes Aku Roku less viable is simply the content of Axel and Roxas's relationship.
The sheer extent that Roxas relies on Axel to learn or know anything.
EDIT: It's not like being erased from time would be a problem.

Hehe, "Nobody" remembers...
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Well, I was considering it in context of timeline changes potentially making the story more confusing, though I suppose it wouldn't really matter anyway (although if it was a timeline change, then the question of why Roxas left the Organization would be left unanswered).
I almost capitalized that, too.

Oh God! Natural light!Xion's addition had nothing to do with removing Ho Yay. Fans of that are going to do it no matter what you do about it.
She doesn't have much of a point in the greater story arc, yeah, but she's a great character of her own and a cornerstone of Roxas'. I mean, it's not like a game has to have huge Myth Arc developments to earn its right to exist. cue the Xion jokes
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.That is an excellent question, actually, and story-wise I'm inclined to say "no". Sure, it makes more sense of Axel's attatchment to Roxas in KHII, but in the process it ends up adding a whole lot of baggage and loose ends to the series. Clarifying what was, in the grand scheme of this series, a fairly minor bit of stupidity in KHII does not strike me as an even trade for that in terms of "having a point".
As the Xion Fanboy, even I realize that she kind of came out of nowhere. When there is no foreshadowing for a major twist like that, of course you're going to run into problems. Heck, I even concede that Namine could have worked just as well. However, I hold firm that she is a very strong character in her own right.

please call me "XionKuriyama" or some variation, thanks! | What is the good deed that you can do right now?I like Xion as well, and I don't pretend that 358/2 Days needed to be made either.
It definitely didn't need to be made, but I'm glad it did.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
Was there any point to her existence?
I'm serious here. It's not like the Organization was missing something besides hearts in KHII. Is she there for any reason other than plot twist and kudzu plot?
