This whole Faye/Bubbles thing went from funny friends with a jerk boss to EPIC QUEST AGAINST A COMPLETE MONSTER very suddenly and quickly.

I'm surprised Jeph didn't go in for the Big Damn Kiss. I've always seen them as close, platonic friends, and the arc of their relationship being closeness and reliance on each other as friends without the need for romance to "legitimize" that connection - but with the face-cupping and the shipping of Faye and Bubbles, I thought he might have gone for it.

Yeah, her appearing out of nowhere feels very Deus ex Machina. And coupled with our viewpoint characters knowing nothing about them... I'm not liking this development in its entirety.

Faye is really good at antagonizing people who are giving her what she wants.

There is something in Bubbles' head that Scary Pale Bitch wants. That's why she's doing this.

I just get a Mary Sue vibe. Or Marty Stu. Depending on how Desire this thing is.

But it's an all powerful character who can solve everything and is SNARKY.

I mean Corpse Witch was setup purely to be defeated and smacked down to give us some Catharsis I think. This character is just OVER 9000! in terms of potential frustration.

It's hard to view Corpse Witch as a threat when Mecha Desire, a super genius programmer, and a talking space ship are in the protagonists' corner.

True - but she was set up as this BEFORE Mecha Desire and Protag Ditz got DEXM'd into things. I mean, Emily you can forgive, but having an uber char turn up JUST to lay the smack down?

Corpse Witch has been built up as having nil redeeming features and any time it looked like she might learn it was reinforced that she's a "meanie" - she will be ebaten and we will be told, explicitly, why she was beaten and there'll be an aesop of sorts in there.

Heck, I love the comic, but finding this one a tad on the nose.

You all are acting like if a stranger with candy invited you into their van and said “I’m definitely not a child molester” you would take them up on a magical adventure.

Mark my words, mecha desire will cause more problems than fix.

Who is Mecha Desire and what does DEXM stand for? I lost track of this thread a while back

Mecha Desire is this new mysterious pale character who is probably a robot, named because they resemble Desire from Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

DEXM is in reference to Deus ex Machina.

Even by standards of Hollywood Hacking, Emily's hacking of Bubbles' mind is silly.

Enh, it's just an AI version of a common memory-exploring trope.

It's more that it's been so, so overplayed that seeing it here feels annoying, especially with how self justifying and eye rolling it gets with Mecha Desire whining about it.

It could have been anything.

Yeah it doesn't seem like Emily is actually doing anything. She's just going through the motions with provided programs as auto-wins. All she did was press three "do the thing" buttons.

Perhaps it's the fact her way of viewing the world is the only one who could interpret the data?

I mean I know thats reaching.

Gunnerkrigg court did this very thing not a few weeks ago.
