Wonder if we're finally getting "the question" answered.
I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117Hm?
"I hasten to interject that I have potentially time-sensitive data that merits immediate consideration." - VaarsuviusHe's bringing up the question of whether Claire is pre-op or post-op.
I daresay it's quite relevant now, and we've every right to discuss it but... pretty sure Jeph is just gonna gloss over it entirely.

I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117Oh.
Yeah, I don't see why we need to know that. Or why anyone would care.
"I hasten to interject that I have potentially time-sensitive data that merits immediate consideration." - VaarsuviusPeople are just plain curious about what other people do in bed, especially if they think it has to be non-vanilla. They just are; half of porn runs on that fact. It's very rude to actually ask, and very very annoying to keep asking, but nobody should be surprised if people do.
= Spindriver =I will admit to some measure of curiosity. But I will not press the matter if Jeph decides not to reveal any more information than we already know.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...Honestly, I take more umbrage with Jeph's defensiveness on the matter; obviously the "don't ask a transperson this question" is the case but none of these characters are people, and we're already way more involved on the intimate aspects of their life, you know?
I am a bit curious, myself. It is something that is likely to affect the story, or at least has the potential to. But not enough to make a big issue out of it.

HOW DARE YOU! We demand to know what's going on there because we're both unjustifiably entitled consumers of a free product and weirdly fixated on trans genitals!"

"I hasten to interject that I have potentially time-sensitive data that merits immediate consideration." - VaarsuviusI feel that navigating that discussion respectfully would be an opportunity to provide a good example through story fodder. But there's also something to be said for pointedly making it a non-issue.
Fresh-eyed movie blogAs Marten has (to date) not shown any gay proclivities, and said early in the comic that he wasn't into anal at all, the pre-op vs post-op question really only matters if it adversely affects their relationship; I guess we'll find out for sure how that shoe drops in the next strip or two.
That...actually dosen't answer the question at all.
And that's not just okay- that's kind of amazing.

"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"Yeah, that's about how I expected Jeph to write Marten's reaction. Though the execution* is a grander flip of the bird to the Inquiring Minds than I imagined.

Just a person. He/him.butts
Oh really when?I was thinking her wince when giving him the reveal was leaning the interpretation toward non-op, but it's just as likely she's never had the results appraised by a lover before.
Fresh-eyed movie blogAttaboy, Jeph. That'll teach...the people who need to be taught. Well done, sir.
I'm...pleasantly pleased with how he handled that one.
I am the end to all your dreamsOh man.
Look, I don't want to be a dismissive douche - I know there are trans-centric webcomics which deal with transgender people and their lives more closely, like Between the Lines, Venus Envy and Rain. But... well, QC has a large, pre-established fanbase and is a pretty high ranker with a lot of webcomic fans.
So, with that in mind... could this comic be a turning point in mainstream webcomics? I don't think a lot of webcomics have handled this situation, period, and I think that Jeph has handled this very gracefully, tactfully and wonderfully. I won't delude myself into thinking it's the first webcomic ever to depict a relationship like this, or take it this far, but as far as popular well-known webcomics go, this may be a first.
I don't know. This is all a big first for me, even after reading a few trans-centric webcomics as a youth myself, including the three I mentioned above.

There's a time for making a big deal about inclusion, and there's a time for making a big deal about how it isn't a big deal. This is a fine example of the latter.
Fresh-eyed movie blogWell, here's an appropriate tune...
Sha la la la la go / For it dude / Jeph Jacques has set the mood / For you to / pork the giiiiiirl / Sha la la la why not / raise the stakes? / Do carpet match the drapes? / Find out and / poooork the girl...

'109: That's my feelings about it, "what do your genitals look like" is an insensitive question to ask anyone you're not obviously going to be having sex with in real life, but wanting to know personal things about fictional characters isn't wrong.
But I approve of the way Jeph handled it, middle finger and all.

What, did something else important happen here as well?

Saying something in Questionable Content may end poorly is like saying the couple fucking in the horror movie might be horribly murdered.
