As far as we can tell, there is only one other person in the room with Raibert, and he's already fully aware of the base, so it's not like there's much of a risk. And Florence already knew she was on a secret base, now she just knows the vague location of it.

Unless there's a large number of complex buildings at the South Pole (and given the extremely small number of human colonists, I doubt it), I think "at the South Pole" is way more specific than it first sounds. Sure, it might take a bit to find the building (radar would probably pick up the drones after some search), but it's not like you have to go door-to-door to find the base once you get there.

Maybe Jean has a mountainous south pole and it's tucked away in valley somewhere.

That's some pizza.

What else would someone whose genetic base is a carnivore want? Assuming her dietary needs haven't been tinkered with too much, she lacks the ability to do much of the digestive work on plant-based proteins, while her ability to digest lactose is probably minimal to nil like most adult mammals. I mean, she's not an obligate carnivore like most felines are, but her diet should heavily favor meat.

It illustrates her "otherness" in an important way. Obviously she wouldn't eat standard pizza.

Well, a pizza certainly isn't too healthy for a dog, but it's not really that healthy for a human either.

Eh? Carbs, fats, protein, dairy, even veggies in some versions! What's not to like? It's an entire food pyramid in one sitting.

There's a difference between "not very healthy" and "difficult to even digest." For all that a slice of pizza isn't my healthiest option, I can still digest a slice of pizza under most circumstances (well, unless it has bell peppers on it, but that's due to an adverse reaction to them specifically). If Florence's digestive system hasn't been tinkered with too much (and based on what she said during her dinner with Winston, it hasn't been), she can't digest most of what goes into a pizza. Trust me, eating something that your body can't digest, even if it isn't toxic, isn't fun.

You could make a crust out of bacon. (I assume dogs can handle that)

Bacon for bread, liver pâté for cheese, peperoni for tomatoes.

Oh, before I forget, another reason to avoid sauce for Florence - onions usually go into pizza sauce. The quantity generally wouldn't be too damaging for a canine Florence's size, but why risk it when you don't need to?

But for today, yeah, I think more than a 15% tip would apply.

Since the chief is going, I wonder if this means that the receiving tech will get arrested... or if the chief is going to uncover the female tech's role in what happened.

Regarding pizza, good thing she's not getting the cheese on it, or else she'd have to carry around a can of air freshener everywhere for a while afterward. tongue

Snerk. We should have known he's find a way to get involved. Let's hope he doesn't sabotage the process of retrieving Florence.

Well, Sam can restrain his Chaotic Stupid tendencies if it helps with longer-term goals... as few as he may be able to consider at any given time. tongue

Somewhat more seriously, for all his numerous faults, Sam does understand the concept of loyalty to his team. (Yes, he was raiding her gear when being thawed out, but at that point she wasn't really on the team in any practical way.)

I would argue that Sam is undergoing an evolution of character for largely self-serving reasons. It's not so much that Florence is inspiring him to be a better person as that she consistently points out that, boring as it may be, working within the system can be incredibly profitable. As for loyalty, well, she's literally held his life in her hands several times. It behooves him to keep her happy.

Also, as we know, Sam doesn't like it when people take from him what he's already stolen. It's personal at that point.

Besides that, well, the chief not only enlisted Sam for help, he tricked Sam into helping, plus helped Sam reach the logical conclusion as to where Florence was being held. The chief should have expected this - you don't involve Sam that much, let alone play his own game against him, and not expect Sam to just let you go.

(Which isn't to say that he wouldn't still get a shock right then - just because he probably suspected Sam would pop up, he wouldn't necessarily have expected Sam to poke his head up at that specific moment.)

Okay how the hell does the police chief know that? Obviously he's done it at some point, but what sort of circumstances prompted it in the first place?

Also, Sam hit this one by guesswork.

Maybe the chief just has the good sense to close his eyes and let Eleanor do all the work in trying the tentacles to the overhead rack. Based on the fact that Helix didn't crash when he's seen Sam without his facemask, I have to assume robots can handle it just fine.

Alternately, think of how much the chief has dealt with Sam. After a certain point, you become numb to it. Think of it like Acquired Poison Immunity, except with an alien squid's appearance.

Also, chalk me up as another who'd like to hear the Noodle Incident that taught the chief said information.
