I think the issue with the New Gen Reploids stems from one of the X series' biggest issues - that is, the whole "Maverick" concept. Rather than actually going all the way with exploring what makes someone turn Maverick in the eyes of society, as well as splitting the difference between someone who's actually Maverick and someone who just disagrees with whatever the Hunters are doing... they're all universally labelled Maverick, marking them for death from the Hunters' view.
Sort of like What Measure Is a Non-Human? but for Reploids.
"That we continue to persist at all is a testament to our faith in one another."Mega Man 10 and Mega Man Powered Up are the only games I've beaten.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.Speaking of Powered Up, it's kind of a mystery why that game hasn't received a digital re-release on the PSN Store outside of Japan. I'm probably the only one who thinks that Mega Man Powered Up should get a remastered release for the last and current-gen consoles and PC.
In terms of changes, aside from slightly touching up the graphics, I think they should make Roll an unlockable character instead of locking her behind DLC - Roll would be unlocked after completing 10 challenges in "Challenge" mode, while her various costumes are unlocked by beating levels with her in "New Style".

Same mystery as to why Maverick Hunter X is still a PSP only game.
"That we continue to persist at all is a testament to our faith in one another."Likely an exclusivity contract or Capcom waiting to slap them into a collection to resell the same games again but this time with an extra thing
Forever liveblogging the AvengersPulling the topic back a bit, sign me up as someone who wished Gate got a redemption arc post-X6.
In my Maverick Hunter rewrite series, if I ever get around to X7, my plan there would be that Gate was a major assistant in rebuilding the cities that were affected by the Eurasia Incident. After that though he'd isolate himself in the Maverick Hunter base, building devices to help them better handle Maverick attacks due to his experience with the Zero Virus letting him sort of "sense" the virus.
He'd have respect for X that he wouldn't admit publicly, have a barbed relationship with Zero, and take great interest in Axl due to his new era design. As for Alia, they're relationship would be a lot more...complicate, as while he thanks her for repairing him, he has to fight the guilt of losing himself against the feelings of betrayal she gave him.
Eventually the end of the X7 story would lead into X8 by having Lumine approach Gate in private to help construct the Jakob Elevator. Gate would survive for a later story in my timeline regarding a crossover between Mega Man X and Metroid.
In that vein, wouldn’t it be interesting if it wasn’t just some scientist Zero approached to capsule him up to cure the virus but Gate who would probably be the leading expert on it (give or take whatever Wily is)
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJust discovered this video:
Long story short, Wagner Knows Why comments that Rockman/Mega Man will be targeted by people who insist that video games have to be more racially and gender-ly (for lack of a better term) like those who work at Sweet Baby Inc after it was mentioned at this year's Game Developers Conference that there's a lack of female playable and non-white characters in Rockman/Mega Man.
Will Capcom really listen to these "concerns"?
Edited by HallowHawk on Mar 20th 2024 at 12:14:36 PM
1. Capcom listening to these concerns implies the fact that they actually have something planned for Megaman
2. Frankly just posting a list of all robot masters and noting only one of them is female is enough to say that yeah they can probably do with more variety on that front.
The video game industry thread in OTC had a recent discussion about how overblown the hate towards Sweet Baby Inc. is, a lot of it directed towards things they don't even do or have a say in, and I'm a bit wary that you felt the need to throw "concerns" in scare quotes.
Even so, though... like, yeah? I think most fans of the franchise will agree upfront one of the biggest issues it's had is being an utter sausagefest with the scant few women that do exist usually being relegated to supportive or Mission Control roles. Splash Woman wouldn't be as popular as she is if the series had ever bothered to balance things out more, y'know?
It even affects the RPGs to an extent, where there's a more balanced cast of humans but the Navis/EM Wave Changes are still overwhelmingly men.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse Alberiaand Fair but I see validity in Wagner's comment that those who make such claims about this franchise over representation may not be fans, much less having played a single game (I only watched walkthroughs but I've never complained about little to no representation in a Rockman/Mega Man game before) and that they only do so because they know Japanese works of fiction, video games included, are the new hotness.

Man I’m not gonna lie this
Fine. I'll drop the issue.
It seems like they wanted to start addressing the lack of female representation between Splash Woman and the ability to pick a female hero in the ZX games, but then they backpedaled back to having all male Robot Masters for 10, and not long after that, they mostly stopped making these games.
Ever wanted to see the most inexplicably horrifying intro to a game ever?@ Next Gen Reploids: I'm not convinced that Sigma wasn't manipulating whoever manufactures new Reploids to include his DNA. Probably wearing a wig and going by the alias "Amgis"
IIRC either 10 or 11 was planned to have another female Robot Master but her power didn't gel with the rest.
I still wonder what she would've been.
The Protomen enhanced my life. That was supposed to be Honey Woman wasn't it?
Vesper Woman from the Archie Comics was based on her.
One Strip! One Strip!I thought Honey Woman was retooled into Hornet Man.
Ever wanted to see the most inexplicably horrifying intro to a game ever?Yeah, the original designs for Splash Woman and Hornet Man were (respectively) Ocean Man and Honey Woman. The former is a fish-man with a harpoon Buster if you're curious
The tidbit about 11 is true as well, I do recall them catching some flak for that since their solution to the concept not gelling was to scrap her instead of retooling another Robot Master into a lady or coming up with a new concept that did work better.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaGate as a Navigator reminds me of his fan portrayal in one of the sprite comics hosted on Bob n' George, where he was a very pro-Reploid supremacist who looked down on humans without actually being Maverick.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI remember that, MS Paint Masterpieces.
Man, that was a high quality web comic.
On that version of Gate, he actually did deliver relevant exposition on what was going on while being as hilariously insufferable in a Riddler esque way. The in-universe justification was that the economy was doing badly, and he took on a job to deliver exposition to afford energy.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.MS Paint Masterpieces and Plague's Misadventures were both good.
I like the idea of Gate being a bit of a Reploid supremacist even as your navigator, so you'd have to put up with his passive-aggressive jabs at the frailty of humans while you go through the stages.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!
My overall point is that Capcom introduced the idea of shapeshifting robots with Axl and the new generation reploids and has done little to make the idea interesting or really capitalize on it. And in fact, the idea that new generation reploids can go maverick at will misses the point that reploids all have free will and requires hand waves to make any sense of
