In which we get updates from the lives of tropers. Kinda like Twitter with more than 140 characters, but less than a blog or LJ.

Please refrain from excess venting in this thread. Talking about negative emotions is fine but it's best not to dwell on them for too long. TV Tropes is not suited to deal with mental health situations.

I'm feeling better since I had a pot roast dinner, watched Jurassic World, and had a nice shower. :)

Tempted to buy Ark Survival Evolved.

But it's $30.

But I want it.

But I don't want to pay.

But it looks so cool.

But I don't want to lose my money.

But I could ride a pterodactyl.

But I don't want diminished funds.

So in theory I'm going to be living in Amsterdam this August. For about a year.

...I have like, no money. Not enough for an entire year. This is going to be. Interesting.

Gimme yer lunch money, dweeb.

DAY 36 OF THE BLACKOUT SEASON

I really feel bad today. Yesterday I had noticed that a troper I had sent an Issuer Helper to had repeated the same issue from before, only wording the edit differently to eliminate a part of the issue (word cruft) but not the other (misindentation). I had PM'd the troper again but I showed too much impatience. The last time this had happened to me was last year in January, sixteen months ago, and I promised myself to always stay calm. If I want to reach my third anniversary as a troper, I need to unwind a bit since lately I've been correcting numerous imperfect edits and it can get mentally fatiguing.

Can someone send me a rudeness notifier over this edit reason of mine, please? I really don't want it to go unnoticed.

We tried moving furniture and realized too late that I have 3 more days until we can actually occupy the new home, right after we removed the televisions and shut the internet down. Whoops.

I am currently typing this from a school signal way out there.

So on the way back home from the Memorial Day weekend vacation, I had a nice chat with my older brother, about my insane younger brother and cousin.

And if you need an introduction to my younger brother, enjoy this list of crazy shit he said.

Anyway, my younger bro and cousin are pretty far-right extremists - a libertarian misogynist manospherian and an anarchist respectively - and both are unable to shut up because the whole world must hear their beliefs. I said that maybe the reason they grabbed onto their worldviews and became just so certain about them is because the two of them feel very helpless in their own lives, and they want something that makes themselves feel superior to everyone else.

My older bro agreed, and pointed out that my cousin, the anarchist, is easily the least successful member of our extended family. He gets fired from many jobs due to his attitude problem, used to sell drugs, all manner of crap like that.

Our younger bro got fired from two jobs in his chosen field: health care. He claimed both bosses had it in for him, but here's a little secret for you all: my younger brother is an asshole. He's always been a bit of a cocky douche with a temper, but since joining the manosphere, these characteristics have been amplified.

My older brother is a college professor and works in the medical field himself. He says that he's had students who he believes are straight-up dangerous, really unfit for the medical field. One student stole his exam, bragged about having stolen it (which is how my brother found out), and aced it, then asked to become my older brother's research assistant. He did, and he sucked at it, showing to my older bro that this student had no actual brain. He also told me of another student who had serious emotional issues, and was great at her work when she had clear direction, but was a disaster by herself, and that job would put her in many situations where she'd have no choice but to be self-directed, which could put patients at risk.

Professors pass along little "hints" that crappy medical students are just that, as in please don't give this person a job. My older brother says that he feels bad about that, but patients shouldn't be subjected to someone who's bad at their job.

And my younger brother's attitude problem (and the fact that he got into health care just for the money, which my older brother finds concerning) could sink him. Health care is a small world, my older brother says, and developing a bad reputation could sink you. It also doesn't help to be a misogynist in a woman-dominated field.

As for my younger brother at the moment? He's currently dating a Mexican woman, because they're "more traditional". My older brother jokingly called her (to me, not around her obviously) "an obedient Mexican woman", in reference to my younger brother's tastes in women (he hates independence in women, women who curse; well okay - he's a member of the manosphere. Draw your own conclusions).

I get some shut-eye during the day, then spontaneously awaken and can't fall asleep despite feeling groggy. -whine whine whine moan moan moan-

The groggy feeling's mildened, but I'm not gonna get shut eye too soon, am I?

About a week ago, I found someone I thought was an old friend from elementary school on Facebook, so I sent her a message asking if she was the right person. Today, I stumbled across something that said that Facebook would have sent a message request, but that it sometimes will filter them out as spam, and that it's happened to all sorts of legitimate messages. After that, I checked and saw the message wasn't read yet. Do y'all think it's more likely that it's the wrong girl and/or they aren't interested in (re)connecting, or is it still possibly the right person and it got filtered out? If the latter, what course of action should I take now?

Regarding this and this, in US law, according to my lawyer-beau, once a judgment in a case has been reached, you can't sue for the same thing. Sort of like double-jeopardy.

Exceptions include:

  • The usual silly double-jeopardy "loophole" that doesn't actually exist. To wit, if the same thing you sued them for happens again, you can sue them for it. In criminal terms, just because you already got convicted for robbing a bank doesn't mean you can't be convicted of robbing the bank a second time. It just means you can't be tried for the exact same incidence twice.
  • If new information/evidence comes to light which would have affected the judgment in the original case, maybe. For instance, if you sue someone for punching you in the face and you lose because you can't prove they punched you in the face, and then they go home and post a You Tube video of them punching you in the face along with a signed statement admitting they punched you in the face, you might be able to reopen the case. I'm not sure. It depends on the circumstances and the disposition of the information/evidence. You'd have to ask a real lawyer about when this applies and doesn't apply.
  • Presumably, if a judgment isn't actually reached, the rule doesn't apply. According to beau, if the plaintiff voluntarily drops the case, that counts as a judgment, and you can't sue again for the same thing/incidence. However, I'm not sure, but a judge throwing the case out might not count as a judgment. That could just be them dismissing it as not worth their time (which honestly sounds like the coolest part of being a judge).
  • And then, of course, there's always appealing to a higher court.

[up][up] I'm assuming it wouldn't be marked as read if she declined the message request, though. And if that is what happened, I don't want to send a friend request also, but if it got filtered by Facebook, I would just send a friend request anyway. Should I just assume the latter, or assume the former, or do something else?

[up] Congrats on the job!

My girlfriend and I got working on our Otakon cosplay this week, and the hype couldn't be more real. This is the first effort-inducing cosplay we've done, as well as the first couples costume, as Kindred from League of Legends. We spent a few hours working with foam to get some results on the bases for the masks.

I can see how people get so involved and excited about cosplay stuff. It's intoxicating. Though that might just be the fumes of burning foam.
