Well, it's easier on the tongue than "Sanctus Diabolica".

Also, food for thought: if just Kyrie was enough for Savior to move its arm, why bother going with the trouble of trying to capture Dante to power it? Why not just slap a bunch of ordinary nobodies together that would be far easier to procure and get things done long before Dante'd even show up to cap Sanctus at the beginning of the game?

The Anime is... Not good. I'm two episodes near the end, and it's clear Madhouse had very little money for it, because there's barely any fight scenes, and the ones that are there suck. It tries to compensate for it by being more of a Detective Noir story, which actually fits Dante surprisingly well, and works as a portrayal of his day job. I can say that the atmosphere of the show is pretty good at times, thanks to Madhouse's style.

It's hit or miss with it's episodic stories. Some like the Rock Star Siren one are good, but others like the Demon Prison are bad. It suffers from a lack of creative demon designs as well, with alot of them being very generic monsters and only a few remotely interesting designs.

Dante himself, particularly in the English dub with Reuben Langdon voicing him is the best part of the show. He's much more of a laid back character in this, being more bored and snarky, and also getting screwed over by his shit gambling and poor spending habits, which I actually like. It's sort of like a balance between his DMC 1 and DMC 2 personalities that works. Lady features alot and she's written decently. Trish is there too, but i'm not a fan of her having abandoned Dante previously.

There's an overarching villain, but honestly, he sucks. He's not interesting, he's not threatening, and he just comes off as annoying. Yes, I know what he does in the last two episodes, but he's just not doing it for me either way. I think it's an interesting watch, but the show can't stand on it's own.

The anime was my first "proper" forway into the series, so I'll always have a soft spot for it. At worst it's So Okay, It's Average and really only for fans and people already familiar with the franchise and characters. It does arguably have the best portrayal of Dante and the anime original characters work surprisingly well, with Patty in particular of being a canon foreigner done right. Otherwise it's basically just Cowboy Bebop as an urban fantasy.

I liked the episode where Lady met Trish for the first time. I'm willing to Hand Wave Trish being a stand-offish b-tch towards her, provoking the entire conflict - I mean, she threw a motorcycle at Dante before offering him a job, and hell, Dante's first meeting with Lady went more or less the same way.

But I've never watched the anime much farther than that. Or if I have I was so bored by the content of the later episodes I must've forgotten.

I can only remember the first episode where Dante adopts Patty, who would normally serve as that Morality Pet character who helps humanize a Physical God character by giving him an annoying youngster to banter with. Instead, I remember her just kind of being there, and suddenly running Dante's financial affairs, being his secretary, or his live-in annoying child or... whatever...

And the episode where Dante gets a tip from Boobie Lady about a devil haunting some kind of bike and Dante basically has to outrace the guy to beat him and - he pretty much does that and the story's over.

And the episode where there's a woman in love with a "demon" and Dante has to deal with the morality of killing a Noble Demon... except he really doesn't and the whole situation seemed to resolve itself.

Yeah, maybe that was only the first three episodes. I'm not sure and I don't care to find out. This show was alarmingly lackluster. I know that sh't goes down in the final episode supposedly, but I'm told it's pretty underwhelming in the grand scheme of things. Like, yeah, Detective Noir story. That can work for shows like Gun Grave, I know it can. Gun Grave was the same sorts of balls off the walls actions that DMC is known for - and yet the anime was a low-key mafia drama. I don't know how that show ended up being so pithy and this felt like a big ball of nothing. I want to blame Capcom for not allowing Dante to really grow as a character, or letting the anime expand his story much further.

The thing of all this is I always assumed it was my lethargy in actually finishing it/paying attention that made it seem so horrible. :[ Meh. At least the opening theme was sick.

It was an anime based on a video game. Most of the time those are alright at best.

[up][up]Budget and time constraints. A1 pictures did a fantastic job at a ton of things and then they made the Ace attorney anime that is m'eh at best, and there's not higher reason than "they weren't given the resources to mpake something good with it."

I thought the anime was okay and was as good as could be for an anime based on a video game. I liked the episodes about the dead singer and the demon who falls in love with a human woman the best.

[up]They can do better. It's just that nobody is willing to give the people working on them time or money, or sometimes talent. Castlevania Netflix is an example of what happens when they try to give them those things (And what I feel is the best Video Game animated adaptation so far).

While Castlevania is exceptionally good, I feel that title should go to the Sengoku Basara or Kirby anime's. Not only are they extremely faithful, but they can be enjoyed even without having any prior knowledge of the games. The only reason I think they don't get as much recognition is due to SB's incredibly niche presence in the west, and Kirby's anime dub being seen as just another shoddy 4Kids dub.

I remember there being a bit of buzz for the Sengoku Basara anime when it was airing due to how over-the-top ridiculous and hammy it was (to the point there were even a few memes), but it seems to have largely been forgotten as time has gone on.

I enjoyed the anime. It's not great but it was fun seeing Dante in situations that aren't a major crisis. It also gave Future in My Hands which is an amazing song.

As for that video linked earlier, Dante VS Sanctus was amazing. Parrying Sanctus' thrust with the final thrust of Million Stab was just perfect and ultra hype.

The problem with the DMC anime is it would constantly waste its plot potential

and for an Action anime... there was very little action since Dante would for the most part not have to really try. 'Like most of the budget was spent to make it look good... but any real dynamic action would have broke the budget hence why most fights were Strike cool pose 'black screen with Flash' boom Enemy dead

Hell there are a few episodes Where the demon's methods make Dante's usual approach useless and have him adapt in ways 'Dante using his wits' but would then just devole into Demon appears to brawl it out so Dante can ohko it and resolve the episode.

Well, the voice acting from the original DMC is famously cheesy, but how do you think each voice holds up for each character?

This video by Youtube channel Foxcade goes into the history of the Devil May Cry reboot and how the game ended up what it is. It's only got a part 1 of 2 out so far but it's really great and I recommend it.

in particular, it is very fascinating to hear that it was Capcom that was pushing for a radical overhaul of Dante's character while Ninja Theory wanted to keep him as close to his original depiction as possible.

[up]I do think Ninja Theory holds some responsibility for how they handled the backlash. Getting death threats sucks, and those that did are really shitty people. But what you don't want to do is paint every single fan with that brush, or acknowledge the ones sending death threats really. What you also want to do is let fans know that the people behind the new project care, and that they respect the source material. You don't want to say stuff like "If Dante walked into a bar outside of Tokyo, he'd be laughed out." or egg the press on to paint all fans as dumb complainers because "They don't like the hair."

Still, it was a good video, and detailing the issues that made it happen to begin was great, since it was something I didn't know before, with Itsuno being busy with Dragon's Dogma, and no other teams at Capcom capable of handling the project.

Speaking of Hellboy, Nero seems pretty similar to him in some regards. Demonic arms, being orphans, large guns and similar attitudes.
