For those who may be interested but aren't following a particular thread... Dante is set to face Bayonetta in DEATH BATTLE!.

As much as I love Dante, Bayonetta's likely to win that.

Of course, it really comes down to whether or not Dante can get a hit in, I think. Story-wise, Bayonetta's pretty much just a regular human when it comes to toughness (at least, I can't recall her getting hit in a cutscene in the first game) whereas Dante is nigh unkillable (although Vergil is proof that he can be killed somehow). If Dante could get even a single hit in, Bayo would probably be finished.

If it means making a better DMC 2, why not have the plot be tied to Dante's mother, Eva? We already have the first, third, and fourth games' antagonists' goals related to Sparda, so why not one where the antagonist/s plans are centered for Eva in a post-DMC 4 game?

They're saving that for Bayonetta x Devil May Cry.

I think they're content with leaving the references to Eva to Trish's look and other games with DMC crossovers like Viewtiful Joe. Besides, as far as the mainline series itself is concerned, Eva's an ordinary human, not a witch or angel or even a devil hunter like Lady. As of now, there's no real justification for any villain in any of the games going after anything that was solely related to Eva unless it's to screw with Dante, like with Trish back in DMC1.

Also, I don't really see Capcom doing a DMC2 remake. It's been too long since the original game and they've shown that they're more willing to bury it in the basement and forget about it than actually make light of it. If DMC5 is real, it's probably going to take the Street Fighter V route and take place between 4 and 2. As for Bayonetta X Devil May Cry... I could see that happening, but for some reason I have a feeling that Capcom would refuse to work with Platinum on anything.

Yeah Bayo is gonna take that. I far prefer Dante, but she's a lot more untouchable in her games, currently relevant, and rather more popular.

Remember when Bayo was gonna be in Project X Zone 2 but Kamiya refused because he wanted to be in control of Dante and Bayo's first crossover but has since regretted it?

Then he had some Ho Yay with Brojima.

No, no I don't remember, but it makes sense. I don't think I like Kamiya overmuch.

The Blade movies in general are arguably the closest we'll get to a live-action DMC movie. In fact, I'ld be surprised if Kamiya wasn't influenced by it (and late 90's action movies in general) while making DMC 1. Everything from the tone, the action, and even the soundtrack just oozes that late 90's/early 00's style in such a way that the game becomes something of a time-capsule for that era.

Why did I get thumped for being off topic when I was making an obvious joke?

I said that Langdon and Bosch were clearly doing work for an Elder Scrolls game, which is off topic because it's a different franchise?

Whatever, I hope it's DMC 5 and that Trish and Lady have cool outfits and that Lady's outfit is reasonable.

I was. It was pretty amazing, though.

I couldn't help but notice that Dante sounded a bit like JYB which was funny.

So I finally got my hands on the first game. Sadly, it's not the HD remake so I'm stuck with the weird control scheme that's throwing me off.

This game really hasn't aged well. I can't switch between my guns on the fly, there's basically only two melee weapons, the battles are taking way to long due to how many enemies the game likes to throw at you, the contextual jumping's odd since I don't know when I can do it, taunting isn't voiced and doesn't seem to do anything, there's no turbo mode, enemies do a fuckton of damage to you, Red Orbs come very slowly, and Dante's vocal grunting is hurting my ears.

I'm enjoying it so far but 3 and 4 are vastly superior games.

I don't know if it's different in the original release, but I remember that you can switch guns on the fly in DMC 1. Melee weapons on the other hand required you to press down one of the joysticks to switch, leading to a long switching animation that looks cool, but leaves you vulnerable.

FWIW, I think 1 had the best feeling action of the series. Every hit felt like it hurt, and the blood splashing felt very satisfying. It also had the best enemy variety, imo. I agree with almost everything else you said though.

If there is one, I don't recall seeing it in the instruction manual.

So I can't actually switch between melee weapons on the fly. Goody.

Also, the inability to shoot your guns on the ground without "aiming" was a very odd holdover from back when it was RE4. It and being unable to tell what, exactly, I'm locked on to is only a mild inconvenience but an inconvenience nonetheless.

I'm at the first Nelo Angelo fight and I'm still not sure how to feel about the game. The Phantom fight was a bit of a pain since it took me a while to figure out how to even damage him and then it took me another while to figure out a strategy to beat him. I started the fight with 5 Yellow Orbs and came out of it with 2 and I barely won that last one.

Then I fought that shadow lion panther thing and I'm still not sure how to effectively fight them since I keep dying to it. I just try to stay away and blast it with my shotgun until its core is revealed.

Then there's the Nelo Angelo fight itself. It's a pretty cool fight since the boss actually suffers hitstun and has basically the exact same moves you do. I definitely feel like I could take this guy down given enough effort but the problem is that margin of error is so damn low. I can only survive three or four hits and that's after getting three Blue Orbs. If I had better recovery options then this wouldn't be so bad but all I have is one Vital Star assuming I feel like grinding for eternity on the Marionettes to get enough Red Orbs so I can buy one. I suppose I also have my DT but that's only marginally useful in terms of HP recovery.

I really want to beat this game but it's just missing something that makes me not mind throwing myself at the challenges until I overcome them.

Yeah that's basically what you're supposed to do. Think the Blitz from dmc4.

And the best part of the DT is using that lighting attack with Air Raid. Nevan in 3 let you do it too but it was way nerfed from how super good it is in 1.

Hm. Looking at the wiki, I can easily kill Phantom in the hallway chase if I have Air Raid. Can I go back to previous missions now so that way I can grind up Red Orbs for it or will I have to do something like escape, kill the panther thing (what are they called), save my game, die to Nelo Angelo, then reload?
