Poinpy is a mobile game developed by Team Poinpy (led by Ojiro "Moppin" Fumoto, the developer of Downwell) and published by Devolver Digital. It was released through Netflix on June 10th, 2022.

The game stars the titular Poinpy, a green blob-looking creature who one day, ends up awakening an angry and very hungry blue beast. To quell the monster, Poinpy must climb through several levels and collect various fruits, vegetables and the like, or else he'll get burnt to a crisp.

The game is very similar to many vertical climber games, however, there's one particular twist to the game that makes it stand out. The use of physics, as to move Poinpy, you have to aim and shoot through walls, enemies and more to have him jump using his momentum to guide him through.

Poinpy contains examples of the following tropes:

  • All Just a Dream: The end of the game reveals the whole adventure to just be a dream Poinpy had.
  • Art Shift: In contrast to the game's 2D aesthetic, the ending cinematic is depicted in stop motion animation.
  • Astral Finale: The last level takes place in Outer Space, with the fruits and vegetables being replaced with star food.
  • Big Eater: The main goal of the game is to feed the blue beast a ton of food to avoid his wrath.
  • Jungle Japes: The first proper level, Viny Jungle, takes place in a tropical jungle with vines that shoot you upwards and birds to jump on.
  • Shout-Out: The appearance of the Stompo resembles a Thwomp.
  • Time Management Game: The challenge of the game is to feed the blue monster chasing you with a specific number of fruit as fast as possible. Failing to do in time so will get you damaged by him.
