If Fanon counts, Shinji of Shinji And Warhammer 40 K definitely kicks their asses.

Apropos of nothing,a short while ago I was talking to a trio of women at a function. I mentioned that I was passing time while unemployed by writing stories like I'd always wanted, and that I was working on my first big story.

They asked me what it was about,so I mentioned it was based on an existing series, then launched into a summary of the backstory behind the Magic World arc: "This magical teacher and his class of students, who mostly all have magical artifacts but hail from our world,go on a trip back to his world during summer hols to help him find his father, who was one of the most powerful mages ever."

"But suddenly, they're attacked by his enemy, framed for terrorism, and scattered across the whole of the magical world. Now each of them has to make their way back to the main city... and their holidays are nearly over."

"My story focuses on one girl in particular — her artifact can make anything she draw come to life." "What, anything?" "Most things." (insert 5-min. explanation here) "She's a fascinating character — back home, she was a comic artist. She's very lusty and I'm exploring what she would do with such an artifact to make her way back."

I realised, as I was recounting it to them, that it sounded pretty fucking amazing. They thought so too; they. were. fascinated. Hooked. They even asked to be put into the story as characters. Bear in mind these were postgrads, who I assume are a bit more level-headed than some 18-year-old just out of secondary school, and here they were, excited at having met a writer.

Then, curse my honest mouth,I mentioned that I was part of the anime club on campus and the interest faded awaysad — but the fact I spent most of the time talking to one of them may also have contributed.tongue

So thank you Ken Akamatsu, for making such an awesome series that, for a couple of hours, just describing it gained me a few fangirls.evil grin

P.S. I wonder... How many other series would sound great if you described them without mentioning they were manga?

True enough — good stories are good stories. Most people in my age group would wonder why I was reading that stuff, though.

Negima is especially hard to sell, what with the half-naked people,fully-naked lolita vampire and Panty Shots. I was reading it in class, and someone saw and called it softcore porn. :-/

That sounds amazing. Yeah, the main reason that I'm reluctant to attempt to introduce Negima to my friends is because they'd probably end up focusing on the Fanservice elements.

I remember I was trying to explain the mechanics of Mundus Magicus to somebody specifically, the whole "artificially created reality" thing, and realized that the whole concept is really quite philosophical in nature when you get down to defining what exactly constitutes a "person". Not to mention that Mahorafest could be used study of Utilitarianism vs. Duty-Based ethics.

Negima actually has a quite a notable number of complex themes; it's a real pity that so many people get bogged down by all the cheesecake.

It's a real shame the series started the way it did and has never entirely forgotten it's origin, no doubt there. I'm pretty sure it would be just as popular as the the 'Big Three' otherwise. Well, the way it's doesn't really have a proper anime doesn't help things either.

I think the no anime thing hurts the most...

also the post in Jump this week is going to make it harder to get raws

[[quoteblock]] ''To our readers,

The Internet is now overflowing with illegal copies of manga. All of these illegal copies run counter to the wishes of mangaka. They also ignore the wishes of the creator as to how the manga should be read.

It may be done without much thought, but in reality it hurts the mangaka who pour their creative talents into these works, and it is also against the law.

When we discover such illegal copies, we discuss possible measures with the mangaka concerned and try to tackle the problem, but there are so many heartless people around that it is just impossible for us to tackle them all.

This is a plea to our readers. Illicit copies of manga harm manga culture, infringe the rights of mangaka, and most importantly of all they deeply wound the souls of mangaka. Please also understand that it is illegal.

From now on Shueisha will, in collaboration with mangaka, deal more harshly with any illegal copies circulating on the Internet.

We hope we can count on the unchanging support of all our readers in this endeavour.

The Weekly Shonen Jump Editorial Staff '' [[//quoteblock]] Posted on sankaku (the site is not 100% work safe so no link)

they will most likely fail to stop it but it will be harder I bet.

EDIT: the formating didn't work but you get the point

Negima is especially hard to sell, what with the half-naked people, fully-naked lolita vampire and Panty Shots.

I can attest to this, I tried reading Negima and had to put it down since the fanservice wasn't something appealed to me. It took me a few months to get back to the manga and it was thanks to reading a few entries on TV Tropes about Evangeline and Asuna. The next time I picked it up I ignored the fanservice until I reached the Mahora Fest arc and then I just fell in love with the series.

Heh, I have to agree with Medinoc on this one  *

. I don't really buy any manga at all unless I already really like it. I would never have started reading Negima in the first place if it wasn't for the scanlations.

New Spoiler images here. A few chapters ago, didn't one of you want another on the phone with Ayaka gag? Looks like your wish has been granted!

I own a copy of every volume that's been published in english so far. I intend to keep up with Negima and a few other series this way. In the past I did the same with Ruroni Kenshin and Blade of the Immmortal. If it hadn't been for scanlators, I wouldn't own any Kenshin, Initial D, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Negima, or Dance in the Vampire Bund (just to name a few I can spot from where I'm sitting).

Kidd Rock once told me that he didn't mind people bootlegging his concerts once in a while because it proved that he was still popular - no one bootlegs bad music, right?

I did start with the bought-in-a-shop manga first, but it would kill me to have to wait for it to come out; it'd take years to finish.

Okay, new WMG wild mass guess: The Headmaster is part-nonhuman. I mean look at him, it's like he's got a second head attached to the back of his head. Nobody else looks like that.

Awesome! Looks like Akamatsu didn't forget about all the people at Mahora after all. Good to finally see Ayaka again. My guess is that she's going to be in on The Masquerade pretty soon.

From the look of the third and fourth pictures, apparently the collapse of Mundus Magicus is going to have a nasty effect on earth as well. If it does, then that's certainly a good reason for Negi to oppose Fate's plan.

I wonder if this means that Albireo will be able to be active again.

@Raso: ... Okay, so what are they going to do? Sue all the manga scanlation sites/groups and raw providers? Enigma (a major Mahou Sensei Negima scanlator group), for example, is based in Vietnam(!) IIRC. I have serious doubts regarding the odds of any lawsuit by Jump actually doing something meaningful there.

Honestly they're probably going to try and go after the people in japan who are publicly uploading the Japanese raws. While they might not like the scanlators all that much they aren't losing sales to scanlations until the manga is localized. Anyone who posts the japanese raws at the same week it comes out is kind of a problem though.

Keep in mind that any action Jump takes will have little to no effect on series not in jump.

IE, this won't do much to Negima scanlations.
