Hmm. You could try a guide like this:

http://www.ehow.com/how_12066173_recover-missing-npcs-fallout-new-vegas.html

for the missing npc problem. If that doesn't work, try

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_console_commands - scroll down and try the resetquest option.

You next need the quest id for the one you are stuck on. Given what you have said:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Kings%27_Gambit

should be the quest you are on, and the quest id you are looking for is 0011f95b

Bit of a gap between these posts that no-one else filled.

Oh well. Something just struck me - would anyone out there in the non-video game world buy the plot behind the Independent ending of New Vegas, with everything done correctly and all minor factions either put in their place, serving you or out of the Mojave altogether? Or would they see it as ludicrously convoluted? I mean, I like it, I think it makes lots of sense but I'm not sure I would go along with it in another context, like in a novel or something like that.

The fact that you have a Robot Army backing you as well helps. Almost a stereotypical bad guy plot that actually succeeded. Hell, you wouldn't make a half-bad power ranger villain.

Yeah, but the Independent!Courier wins, doesn't he/she? tongue I could imagine Blofeld or Goldfinger looking on what they get up to in awe.

In the Independent Ending proper, the Courier only control Vegas itself, right? The ending essentially leaves everyone independent - more or less, tribal or town-based governments. I think that's what happened; been a while.

It could work, but it'd have to be a new, separate ending.

He or she controls New Vegas, but in the golden ending, almost every other faction either owes them their existence, for example if the Omertas, White Gloves and Chairmen weren't exterminated, or owes them lots and lots of favours. Giving the Boomers their Lady from the water would be a repeater in terms of things to gain from them, even post-Hoover Dam.

Yeah, but I'm not sure the Mojave would go along with being demanded favors from the Courier forever, even if they helped them before.

Speaking of New Vegas... what was King Edward planning on doing with it? Something about making it the new Rome, but all of Eddie's ideas kind of go against everything New Vegas is, and changing Vegas changes what gets Vegas money. And thus makes it so important. So Eddie gets another broken city unless he seriously civilizes the Legion. I mean, I hate the Three Families too (cept maybe the Chairman), and I'd probably destroy them too. But I know I'd destroy the city's economy.

Sallow's either going to die soon because tumor, or of old age, even if he does take the Strip. He hasn't the will or the skill to civilize the Legion, and Lanius as his anointed successor has no interest in doing so either.

edit You are probably right - I don't think the Courier would or indeed should egg things out in terms of demanding favours, he or she would be best imitating the Godfather and keeping that stuff to a minimum but each one being pretty important.

My feeling is he meant to more or less raze the place and rebuild it as his capital.

I stick with the NCR for a reason. They may be corrupt but with a lot of hard work things can be fixed to work out for the better.

Was that a Droid factory or storehouse under the Legion Fort? If it's a factory, the Courier could do a lot more than just free everyone from the other governments. He could get his new upgraded securitrons to patrol against raiders. The main, and really, only, reason anyone actually wants the Legion to win is because their lands are secure from raids. The NCR doesn't have the available forces, or even necessarily willpower, to kill off enough raiders, and the Independent ending has everyone fending for themselves.

Which kind of disappointed me that there was no possibility to use Mr. House's Securitrons for good.

Like going up to Yes Man, saying "We're joining the NCR!" and utilizing all the securitron forces to help out the NCR stabilize the region and patrol it safely.

Better to co-opt one of the robot factories in the area to build back-up units and make the region independent. Why the fuck would you want to tie these people down to a government hundreds of miles away in an era where reliable transportation is usually your own feet and a pack animal?

the NCR seems to have working vehicles. Vertiberds, I doubt those Trucks at Mc Carran are for show considering they seem to be in pretty good condition.

Use the Securitrons to secure the area, hand over control to the Courier as a Governor of sorts to run the region.

If all you have is the pre-existing Securitrons, owing loyalty to the NCR makes sense. You can back them up without overexerting your droids, and they can take the brunt of the clean-up since they want to own the area. If you have access to working factories (I do believe there's one or two in the area) and can retool them for Securitron Mk 2s, no reason to become just a governor. You can be allies to the NCR while setting up a representative government that addresses the concerns of all the local settlements instead.

I put a lot of hard work into making sure that everyone helps the NCR. Which includes getting the Great Khans, bringing out the Enclave, the Boomers, the Brotherhood. Everyone.

The result is actually a lot better than just NCR alone or using the Legion.

Busting your ass and doing everything right for the NCR definitely feels like the closest thing to a Golden Ending this game has.

Better than turning Vegas into Galt's Gulch but with robots or handing it over to the Legion. Or to House.

Oh really when?

I honestly don't see anything wrong with a House or independent or NCR ending. I favor House but none of the other endings besides the Legion just scream bad to me.

The NCR are an occupying force in the Mojave. And an incompetent half assed badly led and stupidly positioned occupying force at that. Without a Courier doing all, and I mean ALL, of the work that they should be doing in terms of pacifying the Mojave, they would face a humiliating defeat at Second Hoover. Just go ask Hanlon at Camp Golf. That's what he's working for. He giveth not a shitteth about the Mojave and its people, he just wants the NCR to stop bleeding its young folks white in a desert miles away from their homeland. For no good reason other than to make Oliver and that prick of a president look good.

And Hanlon's far from the only NCR rep who thinks the way the government and Oliver are running the war is fucking disgraceful - go to the 188 Trading Post and talk to the former NCR sergeant who's took it upon herself to make sure that her old comrades are actually getting proper body armor and supplies.

Their best troops are being squandered and their best leaders are lapsing into despair - look at Colonel Hsu's situation in Camp Mc Carran - it's dire and not improving without help that the NCR leadership can't be arsed to give him. He has to rely on a private military contractor (i.e. the Courier) to clear up the supply situation for his entire base, deal with spying and sabotage, rescue a Ranger from Vault 3 and stop four Fiend leaders from killing, barbecuing and raping his troops. Absent all of that, Mc Carran gets roflstomped by the Legion in pretty short order.

[up] Essentially my objections as well. The NCR as it currently stands is incompetent at best. It's all the corruption of the modern day with the conquering attitudes of the past at worst. The NCR has a lot of good people in it but the higher ups are almost entirely terrible. This is why I'm not opposed to the mojave joining the union at some later date when the NCR grows up; the issues are almost entirely fixable with time.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

Assuming Avalone stays in the background focusing all his energy on dips like Ulysses instead of running the entire show. That man WILL turn the NCR into The Empire if given a chance. And pit them against something from even darker nightmares just because he wants the whole series to burn in ashes and come back to do it again.

I really hope that Chris Avellone just stays in his little corner and bitches through his mouthpieces about everything he hates about everything, because if it was up to him, he'd piss all over the glass half full post apocalyptic setting of Fallout and turn it all glass half empty and nuke it to shit if he could. It's not interesting to make everything grimdark, guys. It really isn't.

It really isn't. Fallout New Vegas to me was great because of the capacity of good you could do if you dedicated yourself. And the realism that you can't achieve every goal with some of the quests helped balance it out.

The quirky and dark humor really offset the fact that this was after a major nuclear war from a crapsack world.

Which is why I love Old World Blues. The message of "Let go and move forward" was subtle and set against some engaging and funny characters.

I wouldn't mind the NCR falling, if it did as a nation state, following the themes of the setting. Rather than being nuked.
