Hmmm, it should be there. I think it's "Mouse control: Normal" that can be changed to "inverted" or something. Under "Controls".

That's what I was talking about. It didn't do squat for the up and down camera controls. It just reversed the functions of the left and right buttons.

Uh... Huh?

That's... Really weird, it should reverse the mouse controls too, unless there is some weirdness with the trial account thingie, but there shouldn't be. I've managed to reverse my controls just fine.

The options need a revamp anyway (see the Hide/Show Villain Chat thing). It's one of the things many of us have been asking the devs for. In fairness, it's only a Quality Of Life thing, so not that essential.

I have seen former friends stop talking to each other because of a misplaced mention of "healer". It started with unfunny snide remarks and deteriorated from there. Serious Business Internet Backdraft.

Be warned that the game is not particularly well-programmed. It's best to play at maybe a notch below what your system can actually handle. We've gotten used to every patch or update introducing a new memory leak somewhere.

To be fair, one of the reasons the game is so weirdly programmed is that they've kept on adding stuff to the engine. The game looks... Well... SIGNIFICANTLY better than it did at launch.

Matrix- found the mouse thing.

  • Options.
  • Controls.
  • Mouse.
  • Mouse Movement (first option). Set it to 'inverted', and it should fix things.

Ah, there we go. All fixed. :D

Oooh. I like the color scheme.

What's your primary powerset?

Definitely a fitting costume, then.

Oh, and a few helpful links:

Ah, yes... the power of the Co H costume creator. Good times.

So what are you thinking of the actual gameplay, Matrix?

It's great. I can like actually take on multiple enemies without dying, unlike World Of Warcraft, and I don't need to have a party of AIs follwoing me around like in Guild Wars.

One thing I've found, though, is that you never seem to find a lot of the imspirations that you actually need. Like, I find few health ones on my blaster, and few endurance ones on my scrapper.

Also, the city actually seems alive, with all the NP Cs walking around. And, killing bad guys actually feels rewarding when you have somebody thanking you. Or, for instance, on my blaster, I walked past a hellion, and he said, "You're lame." So I turned around and fried his ass. And it felt good. Bitches don't insult me.

Inspiration drops are supposedly geared such that you shouldn't squander them, but they're usually available if you need them. The combine-into-different-one thing has helped a lot.

At low levels, you'll pretty much have to save for hard fights, because your inspiration tray is very small and you can't defeat enemies quickly enough to refill it. Later in the game you can keep a couple of slots free to use whatever drops in there, while keeping several for emergencies.

And the drops are fairly random. Which, of course, doesn't help when you absolutely need a green and you have nothing but blues.

Does anyone know how activation codes work in regards to buying the game on Steam? They're having a sale, and I wanna know if they're gonna give me a code I can use to activate my trial account.

I love this game. Haven't played in a while, though. My favorite part was coming up with truly unique names that didn't need to go through several variations before becoming accepted. My two favorite character's (both on virtue) were Checker Board,a invuln/SS science tanker that frankly looked pretty awesome, and Captain Support, an empathy (I didn't invest in his secondary powerset at all) defender whose powers consisted only of buffs.

It was a pretty fun game, all in all.

I came for the customization, stayed for the defenders and controllers.

I especially love my Rad/Elec/Elec. At level 50, he was a debuffing/holding GOD.

In a skirt.

Oy, Matrix, if you haven't gotten an answer already, you can use your activation codes on your trial account without any trouble- just login to the NC Soft Account management using your Trial account name and password.

I know I can do that, I'm asking if Steam will give me an account key or not when I buy the game.

From what I know, they'd have to, especially because it contains two costume packs.

Also, it's not Scottish, it's FABULOUS.

...Y'know, because I've mentioned costumes, I have to post them.

EMF Suit Miijhal's. (Not the 'Troper Namer' Miijhal.)

Miijhal's. (The Troper Namer Miijhal.)

Eddy Marshall and Ill-Fated Imp's.

Captain Codpiece's

And the fabulous Fortunata Dijhal's. (Dijhal is currently quite peeved that buttcapes are female only and has been petitioning for them... Through questionable means...)

Because this has bitten so many of us way back in Issue 6 when City Of Villains was first released:

UPGRADE your account, not ADD. If you "add" the code you'll be creating a completely new game account, separate from your original. If you "upgrade", I believe you get to keep your old characters from the trial.

This also applies to the special costume pack codes. Upgrade, not add.

We've been asking NC to make it clearer for years.

What you can expect in City Of Heroes, by level ranges:

  • 1-4: Oh gods this is awesome! Bang! Pow! Zoom! I love this game!
  • 5: What's this "Hollows" place? (The Hollows is an entirely optional area that's meant to introduce you to hazard zones and working in teams. The funneling of newbie players there has been toned down a lot since it was introduced.)
  • Somewhere in here: "Mission Architect"? Might as well try it out... ow, I'm dead. And I'm dead again. What's up with that? (MA critters are inherently tougher than those outside. A lot of players are also balancing them for high-level play, as well as thoroughly blinged-out characters.)
  • 6-11: Man, I'm running out of endurance a lot. Need to slow down. What's this about a "travel power prerequisite"?
  • 12-13: And these enemies are starting to hit harder than I'm used to. Should I splurge for Double Origin enhancements? (It's up to you, but on a first character, I'd recommend it, just so you don't get frustrated.)
  • 14: Travel powers! Flying! Jumping! Running! Teleporting! Whee!
  • 15: What just hit me? Who's this "Frostfire" dude?
  • 16-19: Out... of... breath... no... endurance... this game sucks...
  • 20: Stamina! Capes! (Stamina is the final power in the Fitness pool. This means that you need to have taken two other powers in that pool before you hit level 20. It's not necessary to take Stamina, but it'll make your life a lot easier. The mission to unlock your cape options opens at level 20 as well; talk to the Altas Park City Representative for heroside, and your starting contact for villainside.)
  • 21: Holy crap, who are these enemies? They've got big pieces of metal welded onto them! There are guys with crossbows and axes and swords! There are old-school mobsters! This game is awesome!
  • 22: Single Origin enhancements! (Very, very expensive, especially at this stage, but well worth it. The game from here on is balanced around these.)
  • 23-29: Wow, where did all those levels go?
  • 30-31: Uh, okay, slightly tougher now, but at least I'm still coping with it. (New enemy groups with tougher powers. Increase in mez powers. The mission to unlock costume auras opens at level 30, from the same contact as the cape mission.)
  • 32-35: Levelling is pretty slow. (You also get new powers every three levels now, so it seems slower. You do get three slots per slot-level, which is welcome.)
  • 36-39: All that for just one-tenth of a level? This game sucks! (It used to be a lot worse, but now they've increased levelling speed overall and smoothed out the curve. Still, there's a noticeable slowdown.)
  • 40-41: DAMN MALTA. DAMN CARNIES.
  • 42-44: Looking for team for Nosferatu.
  • 45-48: So very many many Big Bads and their Dragons. Archvillain overload! (Hope you have a good soloing build, or a good group of friends who are willing to help.)
  • 49: It's just one more level, might as well go for it.
  • 50: Woo! Level cap! Level cap! ... wait, there's nothing to do here. What now? (Make a new character, go on one of the two raids per side, join a high-level task force, play through stuff you missed via Ouroboros... entertain yourself, basically.)
