K-On!

K-On is a show inflated more by its Hate Dom than its fans.

Without its legendary haters, I'd have passed by as yet another cute and funny, yet ultimately shallow and insipid little Moe show, quickly forgotten by most, and with most I mean everyone but two guys, one at Japan and one at America.

But its haters elevated it to the Olympus of Anime thanks to their massive Internet pumping.

So fight on, K-On Hatas! And soon you'll have a third season to enjoy grumbling about!

^1. Even without it's haters, it still had the sold the most DV Ds of any anime ever until BMG.

2. A hatedom is created mostly through something becoming massively popular, not because it's actually that bad. After all, who'd actively hate on something that the entire world thinks is bad anyway. In other words, something has to be popular, or overhyped, first in order to generate a hatedom.

3. I disagree with the assumption that a hatedom makes something more popular.

4. From what I saw, the hatedom isn't uniquely great.

I was mostly kidding (thus the light, mocking tone of the post). Mostly.

Still, for me K-On mostly falls into the So Okay, It's Average category.

For me K-ON! goes from annoying to hilarious with its moe. Its moe is just so over the top that I end up finding it hilarious kind of like Crosses the Line Twice.

Well, the second episode aired and I remembered why I am still watching this show. I liked the fact that Azusa and Mio both played the Straight Man (or straight women I guess) role together. Sometimes I think they do act like they are related (such as in this episode). It seems strange to me that Mio has a Mr. Saturn look-alike plush though.

The whole turtle thing seemed weird to me too. I would be surprised if that is actually end of the whole Azusa wants new members thing.

Also, the Scenery Porn is awesome. Kyo Ani is still brilliant at their forte; the extent of the detail shown in the grocery/hardware store was extremely accurate and authentic looking.

Oh by the way, K-ON! does have nice music. A lot of the really excellent songs are by Yoko Hikasa (Mio). The "Houkago Tea Time" album contains a lot of stuff by her that's really nice. Like this one:

How good is season 2 so far? I didn't really like the first season so I'm wondering if it got any better.

Is it more like the first half or like the latter half of the first season?

IMO, it's both. They mix a decent amount of high school dramaesque stuf in with the moe.
