I'm not really sure on the bad blood thing, but I have been around the block enough times to know it's a really strong probability that there is stuff that we will not be told because it's under the mummy and daddy of non-disclosure-you-tell-anyone-and-you-will-never-work-in-this-town-again-agreements.
Not saying it isn't possible, but I've also learned that things are rarely as simple as a single nameless executive deciding with no provocation that they want to undermine the core success of one of their most popular shows. Some credit should be given to those godsend producers who manage to filter out the ideas suggested by the stupid executives. It just seems a lot of people think if you're not a writer, actor or director then you must be the enemy of the gifted ones.
My theory: "We blew the budget on fake documentaries and Ancient Aliens, you're too expensive now." Big mistake.
Also, I'm a bit suspicious about the whole 'new direction' thing. That usually means a shark jumping is incoming. I'll remain hopeful, though.

please call me "XionKuriyama" or some variation, thanks! | What is the good deed that you can do right now?Somebody pointed out this might be an opportunity to go back to showing more of the build process and working around failures.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI like building processes and failures and fixing aforementioned failures.
Oh really when?I can understand that, the best part of the show is almost always the trial and error process they go through in order to replicate the myth and later, the results. It's not about them all clowning around, mugging for the camera. While the terminal velocity see-saw was a mediocre myth in general, having the whole team come together was quite fun. But more often it is a couple of teams doing separate projects, often with a vague theme to it. Some episodes tend to be more ratings grabs or commercial plugs like the Green Hornet special and the Barack Obama mandated Archimedes Death Ray revisit, which could be okay in theory but everyone tends to look bored doing so.
Of course, there is a balance to that as well. The first season they spent way too much time trying to get the parts and planning out the details of the project instead of seeing them actually put everything together.
I came by simply because I caught the news from a Twitter email.
I am sad beyond words. Those three were fantastic.
Seriously, if the decision was made by someone other than those three (as is likely the case) then they person is absolutely horrid.
I'm probably going to be mildly depressed the rest of the day now.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I was caught off guard as well, but we'll see how it pans out. Mythbusters has been a pretty consistently good show for a long time, IMHO, so it has the benefit of the doubt in my case.
I wish Tori, Grant, and Kari all the best in whatever they choose to do next.
You wouldn't care what people thought about you if you knew how seldom they did.At the Comic Con panel Adam and Jamie did say that they wanted to show off more of the building process, so it's likely that that was the reason. There was some new footage from the new direction, and it looks like it will have a different visual style as well.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectMythbusters is canceled, long live Mythbusters?
Fresh-eyed movie blogAnyone planning on watching the new series who was originally turned off by the sacking of the three above mentioned presenters, just to see how they cope without them?
Yeah but I got no idea when it's on.
Oh really when?Probably in the spring.
Fresh-eyed movie blogIt'll sound unpopular, but I think the trio has gotten a little obnoxious recently in some of their segments. Their earlier stuff was good, I'll admit, but they were a lot more natural and less 'wacky' back then.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI'll miss them. Still, I'll be interested to see the new (old?) format.
If Adam and Jamie want to show off more of the building process, they could've reduced the number of myths per episode to free up time. They've had one myth per episode and ten myths per episode. I don't see why "Adam and Jamie want more time for their myths" automatically equals "fire the other guys."
mudshark: I don't expect Nate to make sense, really.I'm stunned about this. But not all that surprised. Discovery seems to have been attempting to kill this show for a while now; lord knows you can barely even find any episodes airing on the channel anymore.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatWhat? Really? It's their flagship show. They somehow attach everything they want to get ratings to it. I think they still fill holiday weekends with rerun marathons.
Fresh-eyed movie blogDuring the week, you're lucky to find a rerun anywhere.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI haven't seen it on Discovery in a long time.
I only ever catch it on the Science Channel, and even then it's like just 3 episodes in rotation

If the Jamie/Adam team and the Tori/Kari/Grant team had friction, and there were two separate workshops, simply splitting the two teams completely into two separate shows kinda seems obvious. Then Jamie wouldn't have to see any of them more than once a year or whatever.
The page at the link even suggests this. Call it Mythbusters The Next Generation, Mythbusters Squared, Mythbusters East Coast, whatever.
If Discovery wants to show more steps in the process, having two shows seems even more obvious. One fewer myth per hour means more runtime to show steps.
mudshark: I don't expect Nate to make sense, really.Mythbusters All Blowed Up.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI'm still confused at that. Two shows means twice the episodes means twice the advertising revenue. And they could reinsert the cheaper "filler" of the earlier seasons without enraging the fanbase. Was giving Mythbusters twice the timeslots just not an option?
mudshark: I don't expect Nate to make sense, really.
I'd like to see Jessi and some new people join the former M7 team in a new show. Perhaps if they assemble a big enough team, the three big stars can be only as hands-on or hands-off as they want.
