The thing is, atheism to me is a solid belief that He doesn't exist, and the very nature of the question, and the only reason it's even one, is that He is neither provable nor disprovable; atheism is as much an appeal to ignorance as belief is. I prefer agnosticism, or what I see to be dropping the question entirely.

Hell, agnosticism is also less likely to turn believers hostile than atheism; avoidance of the question is how their belief survives, anyway.

Hitler sympathizers will find like-minded folks on the internet if they look hard enough, so I refuse to be surprised.

Well, not really. You couldn't really be honest with yourself if you said something absolutely doesn't exist, because you never know. There's a difference in-between saying "There's no way that's possible, you're wrong." and, "I don't think that's possible, prove it." But, that's just my take on it.
