I still think Shanks is stronger than people give him for.

The cover story just revealed that he controls territory, which is interesting as I thought he was too laid-back for that.

[up]

I think he has territories, because he thinks they are a great place to party and probably to protect islands from danger.

I also don't know if this means anything, but apart from this page, every single time we've seen Shanks since the time skip he's looked extremely sinister. Way past "determined grin" and well into "Psychotic Smirk" territory.

I can't see what expression he's making.

It's just him finding out about what happened in Dressrosa while at a wedding.

Eh, that's nothing new actually. He had the exact same shadowed evil grin waaaaaaay back in chapter 101 I think when he first got news from Mihawk that Luffy had entered the Grand Line.

I wonder when we'll see the other admiral. I'm very interested in the explanation of how they apparently just found two guys both strong enough and interested in becoming admirals who weren't already in the marines.

[up]I think they recruited Justice minded warriors( think an island's local hero) who hated the then current status quo.(Warlords,Emperors, the Worst Generation)

Shanks probably has a couple of loose alliances like Luffy and his "fleet"

But don't the Marines/government generally prefer the status quo? Fujitora shook that up in Dressrosa and Sakazuki was pissed.

The understanding I got was that they conscripted tough guys like Fujitora and ranked then by their Authority Equals Asskicking standards.

Don't think it has with Ryogukyu. Fujitora described himself as being brought in via a draft for new soldiers during the Time Skip while in conversation with Doflamingo.

Doflamingo described the two of them as "beasts" the marines were lucky to find or something.

Either way, it's not particularly hard to figure out. They weren't at Marineford, and as strong as they are, that just wouldn't make sense for the WG was expecting to happen.

That's assuming Ryogokyu, at least, wasn't at Marineford under a lower rank. Though if they were both called beasts that makes your idea more likely, I think.

LSBK Since: Sep, 2014

The rank isn't really the issue, so much as them not standing out if there were probably only like 6 people or so (the then-current admirals, Sengoku, Garp, and Whitebeard himself) that they weren't ridiculously much stronger than.

Like I said, considering what they were expecting I don't see them going "Let's not put the two guys strong enough to be admirals near the prisoner for extra security."

Edit: But yeah, looking it up, they were both recruited during some worldwide draft apparently. Phrased that way makes it sound like they forced into the positions.

I really like the idea of them being their home countries' champions who were press-ganged into service. Given that he's based on Zatoichi the blind samurai, I wonder if Issho's from Wano now that you mention it.

I don't think so, because it would have said and the country is still closed off from the world.

Logically, wouldn't Eustace Kidd be able to defeat Hawk-eyes?

I mean, the second power he displays is the ability to pull weapons out of people's grasp and use it against them - what's Hawk-eyes without a sword?

I wonder if (like Luffy and Enel) this makes Kidd the 'natural enemy' to Hawk-eyes, and swordsmen everywhere...

[up][up]He could've been exiled from Wano after Kaido's takeover, or he may have left of his own accord.

That said, I'm pretty sure Kinemon and Kanjuro encountered Fujitora at some point in Dressrosa, and we never got any reactions from them, so it's doubtful he's a well known public figure from Wano.

[up]Perhaps, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mihawk was physically strong enough to overpower Kid's magnetic pull on his sword.

[up][up]You'd be surprised. Sure, Kid could maybe pull Mihawk's sword out of his hand, assuming Mihawk's grip strength loses against Kid's pull power. But also consider that Kid probably needs to concentrate to pull that sword, and if Mihawk gets in close and personal quickly enough, he can force Kidd on the defensive and not give Kid a chance to use his power. I'd imagine it might be a tad hard to concentrate when you've got the world's greatest swordsman swinging at you with lethal force at lightning speed.

That's not getting into the fact that while we've only really seen Mihawk perform incredible feats with bladed weapons, that doesn't necessarily mean he's helpless without them. For all we know, he might actually be pretty good at martial arts, and it's just that we never saw him use it because he prefers the sword and has never been put in a situation where he has to rely on his secondary abilities and strengths.
