wild mass guessSmoker takes Law's heart from Virgo after beating him to make Law his bitch servant.

Or he just kills Law and blames it on Vergo.

It's Law and Smoker's fight, though. They're both connected to him.

Smoker and Virgo-san decide to gang up on Law and collectively beat the shit out of him before laughing it off and going to get a drink.

[up]Fund it.

@Wander: Law's had time to shine this arc, Smoker hasn't. If Vergo gets away, Law can beat him up later, I have no complaints.

Eh... Honestly? I don't think Smoker should be strong enough to beat Vergo. To me it seems like Smoker got his position largely because he has a logia, but his logia has pretty much nothing in the way of offensive abilities and the defense is obviously useless. That leaves him with getting mobility out of his fruit. Is Smoker really that great of a brawler?

He was fast tracked for having a DF, like practically every high ranking Marine except Garp, Momonga, and Tashigi. We also don't have much a gauge of how much he improved over the TS. Hell, we don't have much of a gauge for where he started before the TS. He has a jutte too, and no doubt some techniques.

And even if he's weaker physically, there's still smarts to go on, as Monet pointed out this very chapter.

I really doubt the marines looked at Smoker and said, "Whoa, whoa, hey, he's got a logia. Give this guy a promotion!" Perhaps in East Blue, but not so much in the Grand Line where everything is three ranks higher than the Blues. I think he should be strong enough to handle Virgo-san, but not right out defeat him.

In fact, I really expect Monet and Virgo-san to get away and head back to Doflamingo after this is all over, and basically be future fights for the Straw Hats/whoever else they end up aligning with.

Nah, maybe Monet, but Vergo's direct villainous presence in this arc is surpassed only by Caesar, and he's portrayed as strong, but not unbeatable. That says to me that he's going down this arc.

Well, I doubt Smoker is incompetent, but if you assume Smoker and Vergo are approximately equal in the eyes of the higher ups or performance or strength or whatever, you then have to remember that Vergo's abilities are pretty much pure brute force while Smoker supplements strength with his fruit, which is no good against Vergo. Haki and stuff.

Of course, Oda could just say 'Fuck that' and do whatever.

Edit: And yeah, Vergo is going down this arc. He's not really being portrayed as strong enough that a powerup is needed.

[up][up] I agree with this.

I don't want Smoker to defeat Vergo on his own, and I don't think he can. The guy has been shown to be pretty damn strong this far.

Smoker needs to redeem himself and win. Then he can go back to hunting Luffy.

Smoker = Garp

[up]I always thought Smoker would be Sengoku and Coby would be Garp. Can't you just imagine Smoker as Admiral of the Fleet going DAMN THAT STRAW HAT MAKING A MOCKERY OF MY MARINES and being infuriated as Coby just laughs and goes 'Nice going Luffy-san'.

And you know, Smoker was the first opponent who gave the Straw Hats trouble. In Logue Town, if Dragon hadn't intervened, Luffy's journey would be over. In fact, before the timeskip, Smoker was one of the few people Luff Y was actually scared of. As in 'Oh shit, smokey's here? I'm getting the fuck out of dodge', along with each Admiral and Akainu.

Well Coby is more like a friend to Luffy. Garp and Roger were Enemy Mines, and Worthy Opponents, which eventually made them become something akin to Friendly Enemy. Smoker and Luffy fall into two of those, but haven't become friendly enemies yet.

Luffy probably won't end up having that many enemies or even rivals at the end of the series. His most considerable trait is making friends out of even past-enemies, so...

I wonder if Coby and Luffy will ever have a real fight? They've had about two so far, however Luffy just mopped the floor with poor Coby.

[up][up]Maybe that fight (and the corresponding Zoro/Helmeppo shenanigans) is being saved until near the end, for maximum climaticness.

[up]So Virgo (I'm not Law so I don't need to use a suffix) used to be Alvida's timid lackey? Damn, that sucks for him.

Uhm we're all below Virgo-san so we need to use the suffix.

And yes that is absolutely right, Virgo-san went through hell and became a badass because of it. Nodnod.

Oh, I get it. Virgo-chan just plain forgot that he looked completely different and was named Virgo and had haki and a different rank and worked for Joker those times when "Coby" ran into Luffy, and during the cover page story about Helmeppo.
