I actually liked Pocahontas better. Pandora was just a little too blue. It was pretty, sure, but it got to Narm places after a little while.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youBut wasn't Pocahontas Dances With Wolves in CANADA?

...no. Among other things, it's not in Canada. I don't even know why you would think that. It takes place in Jamestown, the first English settlement in North America, located in Virginia.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersAh yes, beautiful Virginia, with its sweeping, majestic cliffs and mountains from which to pose solemnly.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youMy bad. Still, there are some similarities between the stories.
Clearly the cliffs fucked off to Canada where they'd be appreciated once the White Man got properly settled.
Oh, there are totally similarities. It's just the Canada that threw me.
In any case, getting back on-topic, Avatar was totally another Mighty Whitey White Men vs. Native Americans story relocated to an alien planet.
...
Wait, that's still not on-topic. How the hell did we get here?
Um...and then Jake Sully had to travel Pandora mastering the four elements to defeat the white man! Whew, saved it.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.There's nothing new under the sun. Some things handle being a remix of past things better than other things or at least in a less obvious fashion.
Shrug.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAvatar was certainly a fantastic visual spectacle, and young audiences may find the story fresh and inspiring. But by the end, so much of its central theme is borrowed that the whole film begins to approach Cool, but Stupid. It's a bit like Pacific Rim in that regard.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youi'll fite you over pacific rim
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBocaj, you are a super bouncy ball of silliness that occasionally stops bouncing to be super-insightful, and I am always taken by surprise when you do.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Pacific Rim was great. It's characterization was phenomenal and there was an Asian woman protagonist who was decidedly NOT exotic manic pixie dream girl love interest. It was great.
The plot and premise were hilarious
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youPacific Rim's main problem was its choice of spotlight.
It had a great, compelling, engaging protagonist with a solid personal investment in the plot, interesting growth and development, and strong character relationships that help drive the plot. It also had a formulaic white guy.
Guess who the main character was.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Was he really? I always though Ninja chick was the main character. I thought White guy was just an audience surrogate.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youThe way I've heard it told, that guy's basically just a trojan horse. He only really exists to attract the people who wouldn't see the movie if there was no white dude protagonist.
Which I suppose you could argue is kinda cowardly, but eh
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."The MC of Pacific Rim was clearly Stacker Pentecost.
I thought the main character of Pacific Rim was VIOLENCE.
Yeah, immediately after I posted that, the familiarity of the complaint caused me to suddenly realize this.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I do think you should bear in mind that the average person out on the street is still far more likely to have heard of James Cameron's Avatar than of the TV series. And since the logos even look similar, it would be liable to cause confusion if they started marketing the franchise that way again.
Well, Tobias and Bocaj said everything I was gonna. Avatar the movie is pretty but brainless and honestly the whole Mighty Whitey schtick gets old. Pacific Rim is great and I'll defend Raleigh as a pretty good character. Haven't had the pleasure to see Fury Road so no comment.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Avatar the movie is fine, but not spectacular. It's entertaining enough, and deserves neither its record-shattering box office nor the massive Hype Backlash against it.
Pacific Rim is an utterly forgettable movie. In fact, why did we bring it up again?
Bocaj is the best.
I only watched it because Glados. My friend and I were watching The Hobbit part one, I think, and one of the Previews was Pacific Rim. It was great, and he was a fan of Evangelion, so

I will also agree to Avatar being a pretty good film. I will, however, dispute claims that it wasn't based on anything as it was pretty clearly Pocahontas in SPACE.
