I still love Ty Lee's expression when that happened.

It was like "Wait, what did I just do?"

Actually, the idea that Azula and Ty Lee were in some sort of relationship off-screen is one I find fascinating.

Although I'm not sure if it was an especially committed one.

Maybe it started like this.

I don't think Azula can handle relationships. Not without some serious coaching, or a really understanding other.

Also, apparently I horribly misunderstood the fingernails joke.

Nobody said it was a healthy relationship.

But at least they waited a while to do the thing if her fingernails were still long at the end of book 2.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Azula was kinda busy killing the Avatar Spirit forever and conquering the world.

God that last one with Azula looking with one eye.

Trust.

Side-note: Holy shit.

Poor Raava.

I don't get your third link... Isn't that just a screencap from the episode where Ty Lee is first introduced? What's the "holy shit!" part?

The picture is awesome. Holy shit (Or maybe I misunderstood).

I honestly think the Tyzula subtext is more akin to emotional abuse than possible romance. There are two individuals Azula enjoys having at her heel, and out of those two, one is dating her despised brother. That explains why Ty Lee is the recipient anytime Azula behaves like she cares for someone - more like a fear to no longer possess someone if you ask me.

I am at least happy people don't try to draw parallels between the healthy Korrasami and the totallywrong Tyzula.

Also, Ty Lee is adorable.

Also, Mai is clearly more self-assured and not as easy to manipulate as Ty Lee; she joins Azula out of her own will, and she's also the first one who turns against her. If Mai had said "no" when Azula asked her to come and chase the Avatar, I don't think Azula could've just forced her to join the way she did with Ty Lee, or at least it would've taken some more effort. So Azula puts her attention mostly to Ty Lee, the one she can more easily bully and manipulate, and the one who (as a result of said manipulation) is more devoted to her.

Weren't there some veiled threats to Mei's family/little brother when Azula recruited her? This would also explain why Azula wouldn't bother bullying her, she knows she already has leverage.

Mai didn't give a shit about her little brother (or her family, more widely) IIRC.

Also the idea of shipping Azula and Ty Lee is pretty gross tbh. Azula's my favourite character, but that's largely because she's so fucked up — she'd be horrific in a relationship.

Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

Now I'm curious to see Korra meet 14-year-old Azula. Azula would still want to capture and/or kill the Avatar, but Korra is way more aggressive than Aang. It'd be a much more challenging endeavor.

I'd think that Azula might do something like threaten her friends...by now, probably Asami.

Meh, now I wish that this franchise had time travel, and normally I hate time travel.

There's evidence in the series proper that she cares about Zuko, at least until Mai and Ty Lee's betrayal. She's been trying to take him in alive since season 2 and even succeeded in doing so in the best way possible - by restoring his honor and allowing him to return as an actual family member, whereupon she immediately inducted him into her group. She's still trying to take him alive after his subsequent betrayal when she goes up onto the cable car at the Boiling Rock rather than simply cutting the wire and letting him fall to his death, and it's only after Ty Lee and Mai join Zuko in "betraying" her that her M.O. shifts to, "I'm about to celebrate becoming an only child!"

Her mistreatment and abuse of Zuko is just like her mistreatment and abuse of Mai and Ty Lee; cruel manipulation and use of force to keep people near her is the only way Azula knows to show her affection, because she is a f*cked up child emulating her horror of a father.

If Tyzula is a thing, the event with Azula trying to flirt with a guy in the Beach becomes interesting.

One assumes it's a pretty casual thing, if both of them are fine with flirting with other people on the beach, and with giving each other romantic tips.

I didn't realize she was only using her index fingers. Unless she has muscles in her hair.

Like, wow that's a lot of balance and strength.

If she wants to be Fire Lord she's going to need an heir.

Does she? Based on the Azulon/Ozai conversation after Lu Ten's death, Azulon still considered Iroh to be the future Fire Lord even though Iroh had no heir anymore.

Anyone here read The Fall of the Fire Empire? That's been on my to-read list for ages (since before I got into MLP, which pretty much triple my fic backlog), but I'm pretty sure Azula didn't have an heir in that.

There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.

Autistm part two.

Parks and Rec.

Azula and Katara parallels.

Considering how she talks about the divine right to rule, somebody with royal blood needs to sit in that chair.

I guess she could "convince" Zuko to abdicate and adopt his and Mai's brats.

Heck, maybe that was her Plan A for most of Book 3 and reason she got them together.

Having a backup plan doesn't hurt though.

I kinda want it to not be a thing, if only because the context of the "evidence" is... uncomfortable. I mean... she's fourteen!

Jokes about fingernails aside, there's a difference between a romantic relationship and a sexual one. Honestly, Azula always struck me as someone who doesn't really have any actual experience with sex, which is why she does her creepy seduction thing on everyone, including her brother. She might intellectually understand how that technique is supposed to end, but hasn't really made the connection and just acts like that because she thinks that's how confident, manipulative women act. I wonder if the Fire Nation popular culture had a few examples of The Vamp that she was emulating.
