If you want a challenge and have played previous games, definitely play on Hard. Normal will probably bore you. You can always turn it down if it starts being frustrating.

They gave weaknesses to the first two bosses and removed the exp scaling on combat. So instead of having decreasing xp gains when you are above the opponent's level its a flat gain all the time but the actual xp to level was never scaled up, you would be level 99 by Naoto's dungeon.

Man, every time I see Ann's hairstyle I think it looks stupid and doesn't suit her.

You know, I don't get why they made it so you need such high Guts to start the Hanged Man link yet have it available so early on. It doesn't really provide very powerful bonuses or anything.

Also, I never really did get why Kobayakawa was even in the whole conspiracy. I was assuming the whole game that Shujin must have some secret to it like the school in P3 but no, it's just a normal high school, the students are normal teenagers and he's just a normal principal. Well, actually, I guess he's a lot stupider than most principals given how terrible a job he did of finding out who the Phantom Thieves are.

Incidentally, you know what would have made Akechi at least a bit more sympathetic? If they had tweaked him saying he was going to arrange unfortunate accidents for the rest of the thieves by adding in later on that he was actually intending to let them go out of affection once he'd gotten his revenge. Make it so he was stalling to keep them safe.

Anyway, Golden's tweakable difficulty isn't what made it so easy, it's that it added in a bunch of features that should have been there from the start but that the game wasn't balanced to have. And then they didn't rebalance things to make up for it.

While I don't mind Ann's twin tails, she looks really good in fanarts/model edits with her hair down.

Also, there are at least three former teachers in my town's government, so it didn't seem that odd to me that the principal would be involved in politics.

[up][up][up] Golden was great because you could keep using Personas you liked. Between raising Personas' stats through the Bonus Time or whatever after battles, upgrading their skills through the same, changing their skills with easy-to-acquire skill cards, and the overall low difficulty of the game, you can use any Persona you want. I finished my last playthrough with a Pale Rider, usually a low/mid-tier Persona, as an absolute god just because I like its design.

That was nice. The games have such varied and fun designs that it's nice to be able to use one that you like if you put in the effort.

So basically it becomes edgy pokemon where i'm gonna solo my way through the game with the starter because that's what I always do instead of forcing me to regularly update my team and go out of my comfort zone.

Welp, at least izanagi looks much cooler than orpheus.

I mean, the only thing about doing that in Persona is that you'll get stuck with some pretty meh skillsets on them. The starter personas usually don't have a whole lot of skills on them. Yeah, you could use the cards and stuff but when you have to fuse stuff anyways for Empress might as well just use fusions?

I mean, if I get as overlevelled as memers make it sound, I can probably steamroll through the game in autobattle and only vaguely bother for the bosses or gimmick ennemies.

But that sounds so boring that I'm still gonna play it the p3 way because it's much better like this.

Which begs the question, should I really take golden over vanilla P4 ? cause If in understood right, golden's on vita and I don't have a vita while vanilla's on ps2 and I can at least try to emulate it.

I get the feeling Memers is heavily exaggerating. I checked out some playthroughs of Golden, and one beat Naoto's dungeon at level 59 and the other at level 56. A far cry from hitting 99 that fast. (and Naoto joins at level 55 so that's only slightly higher than what seems like the intended level to beat it at)

I never got overleveled in Golden. I mean, worst come to worst, you can slow down the exp gain you get from combat. Playing normally you generally end up at fifteen for shadow Yukiko and then add about ten levels for every boss after that, but if you set exp down from the start to compensate for the new features it then becomes ten for Yukiko, about fifteen for Kanji and then ten for every boss after that. If you set exp gain up then yes, you'll definitely end up stupidly overleveled.

Golden is flat out better than vanilla but whether it's worth forking out the extra money is up to you. I mean, for the console and game along that'll cost you 100-120$. I personally enjoy handheld games more than consoles but if that's all you want a vita for it's probably not worth it.

The Vita also has a solid library of other anime games, as well as remote play with a ps4. Imho it's totally worth the cash if you have it if you plan on using its other features and understand that you're never going to be playing mainstream games on it.

Oh I'm fully aware I'm not getting a vita for maintstream games, but the thing there's no other games on vita I can think of I'm interested in buying, and have no use for the other features. I usually tend to just play on pc/nintendo consoles, and the only reason I have a ps4 in the first place is because a madman of a friend bought me one so we could play monster hunter world together. So buying a vita is definitely out of question.

I could just wait a few years tho. For vita emulation to develop, for me to finish my studies, get a job and just like buy one, buy the game and sell them back after finishing the game. it's not like playing p4 right now is mandatory to play p5. I've done p3p and i'm enjoying it, and whatever improvements 5 brings other 4g, 4g can't be a step backwards 3p.

I got Golden, Disgaea 3 and 4 and Utawarerumono 2 and 3 for the Vita. They were all pretty fun.

But anyway if you aren't going to buy a Vita then yeah, just go ahead and emulate the original game if you really want to play P4. It's a functional game on its own, Golden just added some features that made it a bit less annoying by adding features that should have been there the whole time.

3 hours into P5:

I think it's pretty interesting that this game starts out with some pretty big differences compared to 3 and 4 right from the getgo.

Mostly, it's that in those games you started out from a neutral position where society at large was friendly or even helpful to you. But in Persona 5, you start out from a position of weakness and everyone just shits on you constantly. At best you get treated as a mild inconvenience, at worst you're trash. It's made pretty clear that nobody really cares about you at all and if anything just make bullshit assumptions without even knowing you. The velvet room isn't a cushy elevator or limousine, it's a prison cell.

The in-media res thing is also pretty new. I heard about the traitor thing before but I didn't know that the game told you there was one from the start.

I'm gonna avoid posting here too much since Arha's also playing the game and I don't want to run into any spoilers.

I beat the game already, actually. And yeah the game really craps all over you for the first few hours but then it just kinda stops.

Because the main person that was causing you trouble at the school was taken care of, so people had no reason to shit on him anymore. I actually like how you don't become the absolute best in the school, and everyone just kinda leaves you alone to your business.

I'm about to climb the tower in Kamoshida's castle. I actually had a pretty lengthy play session today where I played from around midnight or so to 5am. I wasn't expecting it to go on for so long but...

This game is actually pretty damn fun all things considered. The gameplay is leaps and bounds ahead of every game in the series thanks to all the additions they made, from the stealth mechanic (it's not super deep but it doesn't need to be), the dungeons being less bland and having more actual design to them instead of just randomly generated floors with generic blobs running around, the baton pass mechanic, incorporating the guns from Digital Devil Saga, etc.

The only part I'm not 100% sold on is the demon negotiation (i get the feeling unless you want a persona or are really strapped for cash, all-out attack to end the battle conventionally is the best consistent option), but framing it as a hold-out does kinda fit the thematic and it's fun to see the demons banter with you so it's not a big deal to me.

I'm also sure I don't need to go into the art direction since everyone's talked about that to death even before the game came out. Suffice it to say Atlus' art team went to town on nearly every aspect of this game and really outdid themselves.

Characters are fine so far as well. I thought Ryuji was going to annoy me but he's pretty tolerable even if he is an idiot. At least he's not a huge dick like Yosuke was.

I'm sure it has more flaws as it goes on but it seems to be a pretty high quality and well-made game so far at least in terms of the gameplay and presentation.

On the whole golden being easy thing, really you just gotta make sure to not break the game. Never hunt Gold Hands, avoid using exp up cards, avoid even light farming of mobs if you can help it. The latter can screw you if you intend to fill the shop with unusual goods from rainy monsters though.

Oh yeah the Gold Hands were another nerf, instead of having different weaknesses you have to find in each dungeon they are all the same. All you gotta do is crit them, which is really easy if you just buff Chie’s crit rate and spam her high crit rate physical Ao E attacks.
