Magicant is a recurring area in the Mother series that is within someone's mindscape. In Earthbound, it's inside Ness's mind.

Magicant is also a stage in Smash 4.

If it was Boom Sonic, that'd be one thing (although he looks wrong with them regardless IMO), but it's not, it's Smash 4 Sonic.

The fact that he's been in two games thus far suddenly makes me want to see Sonic's cast start entering into the Smash games.

Tails and Knuckles for Smash 5?

I haven't tried, but I'd be surprised if the latter weren't already present as one of Sonic's alternate appearances.

Unfortunately, Sonic's alt colors are basically just various shades of blue with different-colored shoes.

I actually kinda wish you'd just get Red Sonic if you wanted to; it'd be a lot easier to discern in the heat of a fight.

He should at least have Shadow as an alt costume. If Bowser Jr. can have all the Koopalings as alts, I don't see why Sonic can't have Knuckles, Tails, and Shadow.

Knuckles and Tails would be weird, since they have specific powers (It'd be really weird playing a Tails that can't fly)

But Shadow? Amy? Even Silver, totally should have been alts for Sonic.

Couldn't Tails not fly when playable in the original Sonic 2?

They do have their own unique abilities, it's true, but the advantage is that they do have the basic powerset. Knuckles and Tails can spin-dash and spin attack and go super fast, all the stuff Sonic can do. And, of course, Shadow is just a simple palette-swap. So I think they'd work.

I have no idea, but if he was, that wouldn't make it feel less weird.

There's a lot that could've been done with alts over recolors. I want my Chrom skin for Ike, dammit.

If it wasn't for Spring being awesome and Olimar having what is essentially that in Smash 4 already anyway, Tails airlift being Sonic's Up-B would be a cool way to bring him in.
