I'm finding myself now dealing with the problem of how realistic to make a story like debating trying to make it EXACTLY like the real world or giving a little lee-way to allow for some of the common tropes of the "Slice of Life Anime" genre.

Yeah. I saw a French anime meme once, and a Spanish one that looked like it had to do with Cinderella earlier today.
Plans 1-8 actually do get a mention in the movie. They tried them, didn't work. Now they must proceed to the ninth plan: reanimation of the humans' dead. Surely that must arouse the attention of even those stupid minds.

I'm almost afraid to ask why do you know so much about Plan 9.
I watched it like two or three times. At least once straight, at least once with Rifftrax.
The time I watched it straight it was in class and I had to write a page or two about the message of the movie and its effectiveness.
It's so stilted it's just that quotable. "We are all interested in the future, for that is where we will spend the rest of our lives." "That thing killed a city! A city of people! People who died!"
