I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.
There is a user script for browser extensions like Greasemonkey that will put handy markup buttons for functions like quoteblock into a forum post page. You still have to copy and paste the post you want to quote though.
A Thorn is more efficient than a TH though. It's a sound distinct from either letter.

I think what they meant is that on some forums when you use the quote feature, it will let you see the markup they used.
That's something that has annoyed me on this site: If I want to find out how somebody did something on the wiki, I can just edit or view the page source; if I want to remind myself how I did something in a forum post, I just hit edit; if I want to see how somebody else did something in a forum post...
