I remember seeing footage of the Berlin Wall being torn down that I thought was live, but I was just over a year old at the time and I don't have any clear memories with a definite place on the timeline before age 4.
I also used to think that my first memory was going to see my newborn brother in the hospital (a year and four days after the wall fell), but when I described what I remembered to my parents they said it couldn't have happened like that, so the memory changed to fit what could have happened, and I discount it as a real memory.

When the Berlin Wall fell my parents (and me in utero [just]) were in Yemen and didn't hear about it. They didn't find out for a couple of months. Either when someone casually dropped the fact in a phone call, or maybe six/seven months later when they moved over to the UK in preparation for my grand entrance (mum and dad told differing accounts).
