Mind you, that brings up the whole debate of needing supplemental materials to fully understand a work (glares at Final Crisis)...
Qui-Gon's explanation in The Phantom Menace already said as much. "They speak to you and tell you the will of the Force."
So yeah, no requirements to read supplemential materials.

There we go. So, no idea where all the wank comes from, apart from, you know, "Star Wars fans hate Star Wars." The wank over "younglings," too. What's that all about? And yes, I know by making this post I've inevitably summoned Alex to tl;dr explain why it's so offensive, but you know what, I'll just ignore it.
From what I've heard, though, PT fans are a lot, well... nicer than OT fans on average. I recall something I read on fandom_wank, a fan describing how (s)he jumped ship from Harry Potter to Star Wars to get away from all the wank, and apparently the wankiest Phantom Menace fandom gets is people yelling at each other for not using commas.

It's not offensive, it just sounds kinda stupid when no other preexisting concept has its own unique word.
If you didn't think the word "youngling" hurt that scene, then more power to you.
Gee, thanks.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchSorry. Uncalled for, I admit it.
And also, since this has become the general Star Wars thread, apparently, why must every discussion of Star Wars turn into OT vs. PT wank? The OT at least are considered classic movies, surely there's something else we can talk about...
And no, before anyone asks, by "something else," I don't mean original cut vs. Special Edition wank.

Okay, here's a change of subject; keeping in mind how Lucas was inspired by samurai movies when he made Star Wars, I've watched for Japanese elements in the movies. Mostly I've found them in the costumes, especially Padme's.
Looking for some stories?Padme's costumes do look kind of like the Noh style, with the makeup especially.
Not Three Laws compliant.Supposedly there's some more audio clips taken from the Blu Ray which suggest more changes to the OT that now have the interwebs up in arms.
Its like poetry, it rhymes... somehow.
The same user also has the supposed "new" Krayt Dragon sound by Obi-Wan in ANH. Its... different

...Well, there's only one thing to do.
(faces wall) HEAD ON! Apply directly to the forehead!
Looking for some stories? They changed Obi-wan's Krayt Dragon call back when the 2000-whatever DVD's came out. So they changed it again?

Now that scene doesn't quite make sense, because Darth Vader pretty much telegraphs his action vocally. Even if the first "no" was kind of cool. The second was too much "DO NOT WANT", though.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchThat clip seems kind of fake to me. At least, the audio does.
My Blog: Read and enjoy! My Blogcritics PageThe Vader clip is amusing, the new Krayt Dragon call on the other hand is just plain awful.
Yeah, I found it hilarious. Bad sign.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchBack to non-wanky topics here, is it weird that my favorite is Return Of The Jedi? I just think the sheer amount of unique alien designs in that film plus all the space combat really gives you the "feel" that you're in "a galaxy far, far away." I get the same impression from the Cantina scene in A New Hope.

I like Jedi simply for the final battle sequence. It wasn't cliché then.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Giant battles in space are cliche now?
Well, kind of. But the confrontation between Luke and Vader/Palpatine is the best part of the best part.
"If you will not turn to the Dark Side, then perhaps she will."

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"^^
"You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."
That still makes me cheer internally. Every single time.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — Watch"Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station!"
One of my favorite villain lines in anything. What a Magnificent Bastard. Extremely overconfident, though, and that's what gets him in the end.
I'll agree to that.
Although my favourite non-movie timeframe is during the Old Republic, since the writers don't have to be so attached to what came afterwards and stories can drive themselves.
