Happy Belated Birthday, Brother!

I AM DONE WITH EVERYTHING ACADEMIC THIS YEAR SAVE FOR GRADUATION ITSELF!

Even after all that's happened, I still won. Tol'ja I could do it, Dad. : D

Anyway, once I have gotten in a good snooze, I shall get mine brethren a proper post with which to play.

And to top it off, I found the song that's been stuck in my head for weeks now from another video! What a coincidence that it fit so well my frenetic work in the last few days, and my victory!

How to lose two hours:

  1. Start a 4v4 Do W game.
  2. Note that your base is simultaneously attacked by the weakling panzees and 'umiez in bawkses. Defend against the constant rush with your own constant rush supplemented by dakka and artillery.
  3. Having finally gotten out of your own base ONE HOUR LATER, note that the main reason your three allies, all regular 'umiez, have not made any effort to assist you is that they are stuck in their own bases due to their habit of building turrets everywhere.
  4. Save and quit to prevent punching the screen.
  5. Return to the game some time later, pursue the assault.
  6. Aid your allies by dynamiting their base entrances (partial success, since they only move troops up and not to the no-man's-land between your troops and the enemy).
  7. Notice a Scout squad in your staging area, being shot at repeatedly. Write them off as condemned, returning to the important business of dynamiting your allies' base entrances.
  8. After an hour of dakka and bombings from both sides with no ground gained, notice that your artillery is for some reason sometimes shooting inside your base.
  9. Notice the Scout squad is still repeatedly shot at with everything from lasguns to shootas to grotbombs, all without dying.
  10. Realize that for whatever reason which probably makes sense to the programmers, the Space Marines are now effectively invulnerable, going around with HP bars set to 4, 8 or 9, and the only reason they haven't won is they're holding still to shoot the incoming boyz, with the knockback from all four artillery pieces maintaining the illusion of progress.

Gents, I need your help. What in-game justifications would you use for increased Weapon Skill, rerolling misses and additional attacks?

What's the context? What sort of character is gaining these traits? Depending on the setting there could be many different justifications.

Also, has anyone ever read Worm? I'm binging my way through it now, and it's turning out to be a really good and slightly different story about aspiring supervillains, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in such things. Also one of the main characters is basically what Harvey would be like if he was a lazy teenage anti-hero, so I may be biased.

Dark Eldar combat drugs on mostly melee human(oid)s. The ones that give extra speed, strength or Feel No Pain are easy enough, but "more accuracy", "be better with your weapon" or "attack faster without moving faster" sounds kind of off.

As for Worm... Can't say I have, no.

Harvey would be like if he was a lazy teenage anti-hero

"Dammit boy, look at the state of this room!"

"But Daaaaaaaaad!"

"No excuses! You are not going out until I can't see the floor for the filth!"

"But DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!!"

"And what's that noise you call music? In my day, we had good loud Nurgling-popping concerts, not this refined Slaaneshi stuff. I swear, everything's going uphill these days, everything has to be different."

"I HATE YOU DAD!"

"And what's this I hear about you getting a job? Planning on not doing the same thing year after year?"

"YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND! NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME! I'M JUST GOING TO DIE ALONE!"

"That's my boy!"

You could go with time-dilating or focusing drugs, so that users can fight strategically, rather than purely reactively? As for the additional attacks, perhaps a drug that makes someone really energetic and hyperactive, so they move and react more quickly, but it doesn't affect their overall movement speed and agility?

Ahh yes...

Without a doubt the primarch I am most apathetic towards.

One of FF 13-2's bosses spouts lines like "Powers of chaos; bend to my will!", btw. Interestingly, all it does is stop time in that one instance.

You should read Betrayer; it casts Angron in a somewhat sympathetic light, without glossing over his numerous flaws. The book offers hints of what he might have been, had he not ended up with the Butcher's Nails in his brain.

[up][up] I'll keep an eye out then.

[up]Nah, Caius is rather more emo. That's not to say he's not cool though.

Speaking of FF XIII, the story and characters are giving me some ideas. If I can think of something workable, I might present it here.

Thanks for telling me that. Based on how I've enjoyed FF 13-2, I'll likely be getting 13 once I've finished it. I've watched quite a few of the cutscenes and whatnot, but I'd still like to try it out.

How far in the game are you?

Dammit GW, how do you want to make money when you do not have the product I want for sale? Why then are you surprised when overpriced works appear on the internet for free? Also, there is abook called "English Grammar in use Online". The irony is palpable.

Also, Free Comic Book Day is apparently a thing around these parts. I approve.

Well, I just finished FF 13-2's story...

I can certainly understand the Broken Base. At the same time, I feel like the ending fit in a way. I have mixed feelings, all in all. Though as the game was for the most part rather enjoyable, I don't mind over much.

Oh, and Lem? Good luck with Atomos.

Remember how I talked about writing fanfic in my free-time? I had this crossover idea of Reisen as a PSICOM officer, and I wrote a short little piece about it.

A bit of explaining. FF 13's world is divided into 2. Cocoon and Gran Pulse. The two don't have the best relationship. Cocoon is hollow shell floating above Gran Pulse, btw.

Cocoon's military is also divided into 2 branches, PSICOM and the Guardian Corps. PSICOM handles everything Pulse related, while the Guardian Corps work as security and local law enforcement most of the time.

The Sanctum is Cocoon's ruling body.

Eidolons are essentially summons, and l'cie are The Chosen One.

Reisen gritted her teeth as the wheel whizzed past her head, almost hitting her prosthetic bunny ears. The wheel spun around in mid-air, returning to its sender. With practised ease, she jumped backwards onto a crystal ledge, scrutinizing the opponents below her.

Fucking perfect.

The Pulse l’cie had been taken down without too much trouble. Her troops had him cornered. He was on the ground, panting and wounded. All that remained was restraining him and delivering him to HQ. Then all she would have needed to do after that was fill out some paperwork and sign her name a few times, and before long, she would have sitting at home in her apartment on Eden enjoying some well-deserved time with her girlfriend.

That is how it would have gone at least, if not for the two eidolons who suddenly decided it would be a swell time to appear.

Reisen groaned inwardly, the purge was quickly becoming more trouble that it was worth. Not that that was particularly surprising. Having the entire operation dumped on her hands, even when she had made it perfectly clear she’d rather they didn’t, had not done much for her motivation.

As long as everything had gone according to plan, things had been fine. Get the Purge victims onto the train and over to the Hanging Edge. Then, kill them. Nice and simple, and easy for PSICOM to cover up, so that the Sanctum could keep their pearly white image.

… Of course, real life never worked the way you wanted it to. When the last train had arrived, everything went to pieces. Clearly, planning to genocide an entire town’s populace did not go over well with the remainder that had avoided purging. In short order, the entire operation had been wrecked.

The reports she had received didn’t tell her much, though she had some idea of what had transpired. Apparently, there were two separate groups that had caused all this havoc. One was larger than the other, and had armed several of the people they had rescued in an effort to bolster their ranks. The other consisted of two people… Nabaat was not going to take this well. Reisen could only hope she was occupied with that little l’cie of hers. He was the one who had pointed out the Pulse Vestige for them, and the director seemed inordinately interested in his abilities.

In which case, Rosch would be the one she would have to report to. Apparently, she was screwed either way.

That’s not to say it was a total failure, they had managed to kill the majority of Bodhum’s populace, but a significant amount were able to escape. That was the main reason she was down here with her men, on the crystallized Lake Bresha. The sooner they finished off the survivors, the sooner they could all go home.

Focusing once more on the situation at hand, Reisen contemplated her options. A retreat seemed most attractive right now, despite the potential consequences. Taking on two eidolons without backup would be tough, especially considering the fact that she would have to hold back as well. She did not want the fact that she was also a l’cie, albeit a Cocoon one, to become known.

Of course, if she killed the Pulse l’cie, that wouldn’t be an issue. The eidolons would likely disappear, and she’d have rid Cocoon of a threat. In that sense, it was fortunate that her men had been killed.

Further deliberation was cut short by the wheel hurtling towards her once more, actually hitting her in the gut and knocking her to the ground. The two eidolons came closer, hovering menacingly above her.

Right… retreat it was then.

Without batting an eyelash, Reisen pulled a grenade out of her pocket, lobbing it at one of the eidolons. Scurrying to her feet, the PSICOM officer promptly turned tail and ran away as fast as she could. The explosion that sounded a few moments afterwards brought a smile to the l’cie’s face. Without pausing her run, she pulled out her communicator and called the men back at the Palamecia.

What do you guys think? Anything good?

@Chabal: Thank you. If it seems interesting even when you know nothing of FF 13, then it can't that bad. That's a relief. I may write more of those ficlets, the idea of Reisen as a member of PSICOM as well as a l'cie intrigues me.

I'll admit the scene in the vid brought forth a chuckle.

So I was lurking on the Touhou forum, and apparently Zun's wife just took maternity leave. Huh, I suppose congrats are in order.

Also, the Seija Touhou game will supposedly have a lot of levels.

If it's a girl, imagine the veritable blizzard of Cirno jokes the poor child will have to endure.

In semi-related news, I found out Fujiwara has nothing to do with volcanoes, it means field of wisterias. How disappointing.

Also, Japan had a political body called the "council of elders" or similar. However, the translation in the book went with the same one used for Lovecraft, giving us "Council of the Great Old Ones". If dread Cthulhu was part of Japan's political organisation, it certainly would explain a lot of things.
