Ladies and gentlemen, I resurrect this forum for some very old news.

Pikmin 4 was announced.

At least we finally got Pikmin 3. This news is just icing on the cake. Too bad I never finished number 1.

Now we just have to wait and see if it takes another nine years for anything solid for Pikmin 4 to be shown off. Realistically, I see 4 being an NX title, especially since Miyamoto said he wanted it to be in 4K quality.

Thankfully, Miyamoto says it's very close to completion, so we won't get a Duke Nukem Forever-style wait like we did with Pikmin 3.

I hope this doesn't recycle a lot of elements from 3. 2 was good but that was one of my biggest issues with it. I wonder what new types of Pikmin we'll see. I'm still waiting for green.

I 'm totally okay with 3 borrowing from 2, saying as Pikmin 2 is my favorite game of all time.

Here's to Bulbmin making their glorious return! Let's hope it happens!

I can see it reusing a lot of stuff if it's this close to completion like they say, but if it's for a new console like I'm thinking, then there's a chance it's all new stuff.

One thing I'm hoping is the story mode has more meat to it than in 3. While I like 3, the story mode kind of felt like an afterthought compared to how much hype and attention mission mode got. I also want the Emperor Bulblax back. It felt weird not having it in a Pikmin game.

If winged Pikmin return, I at least hope that more of the puzzles don't get completely broken by them like they did in 3. A lot of the counterweight puzzles there clearly didn't take them into account.

Winged Pikmin can easily be nerfed by giving them a maximum height limit to which they can fly. It'd also keep them from crossing gaps the player isn't intended to get to yet.

Also, nerf their attack power even more so even a spicy spray has them doing very little damage. Their ability to directly swarm weak points easily made up for their current limited attack power in 3.

I don't think the Winged Pikmin need more of an attack nerf.

Winged Pikmin are incredibly weak though. I think that's a good enough payoff for them being able to sequence break/make puzzles easier.

3 years later and not a word of Pikmin 4. Is it possible that it was cancelled? Or maybe we all had the wrong idea and they meant the 3DS title.

I really like Pikmin, always had. I've never got why it's so niche. I got the first game over a decade ago and always found it fun. It's impossible to beat, though. I didn't even know there was a Good End until I saw it online. I can't even beat the bosses, nevermind get all the stuff needed in time. Pikmin 3 is way easier and it's really cute. I could see the new characters going somewhere... if they'd just release Pikmin 4.

Nintendo obviously wants the series to go somewhere but it's still one of their less popular major titles.

Tbh, a majority of Pikmin's problems comes from the fact that the series has had the unfortunate luck of only having its games released on Nintendo's weaker consoles, so it's never really had much of a chance of attracting a larger audience. The only game that managed to make it onto one of their better systems was almost universally regarded as bad/brushed off as being a rushed 3DS title to fill-gap on the 3DSs slowly dying lineup.note

I really hope a Pikmin game manages to make it onto the Switch. Would give it a much better chance of attracting a larger audience.

Most likely this means a Pikmin 3 Switch port if anything, given the rumors flying around of two more Wii U games getting ports.

Wonder what new content they'll add for people who already got the original, considering most Wii U to Switch ports get new content. Purple and White Pikmin in the main story mode hype?

From Venture Beat's article on Paper Mario: Origami King:

Other Nintendo studios will have games ready for release soon, as well. That includes the 3D Mario remasters, but it should also include Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

If the port rumors are true, my two main hopes for it would be to have the Mission Mode DID he part of the base game (similar to MK8DX), and for both Mission Mode and Bingo Battle to support online multiplayer, even if it only works with users in your friend list and not strangers.

Notably in the tweet in regards to mentioning the new content, it mentions that Olimar and Louie's bonus chapters will take place "before and after the main game".

We're finally gonna figure out what happened to Louie and what the heck that thing falling to the planet the Pikmin were attracted to is.
