Eric Gold obviously. Also, I found this episode absolute freaking perfection. The conversation between Annie and Abed, the bit with Jeff and the computer, Hickey's ending confession, Dave Matthew's Band, the Street Fighter reference, the skit during the credits.....just everything. And of course, the bit of cannon by Abed and the look, squee!! I, I just really really like this show ya'll. I really truely do, a love like this surpasses that of Kel's love for orange soda.

I really loved the discussion about whether the school/show was even worth saving since Pierce and Troy are both gone.

I'm not surprised at all. This show is probably one of the worst rated shows to get 5 seasons. Though I can see the show getting picked up by Hulu or Amazon or something.

That's an absolutely horribly written article.

Except for the title and first line, it sounds much more like it's talking about Community being barely renewed.

Then there was the Chevy Chase element of it all; the SNL funnyman was a fan favorite,

[1]

He was? So much of what made the show popular was the characters' relationships, and Pierce didn't have that relationship with anybody because of how much they isolated him.

I feel gutted for my friends who held parties in their dorms every Thursday to watch the show. I'm sure it will get revived somehow, whether it goes the Arrested Development route by going to Netflix or Hulu or it switches to Comedy Central like Futurama.

Personally, I've never have been a fan of the show. I felt that the show's attempts of humor didn't work on me and I never got around to warming up to Joel McHale's character. Still, I wish the cast and crew all the best. I'm certain that actors like Donald Glover and Allison Brie will get good gigs real quick. If nothing else, the internet's still got Dan Harmon's other show on Adult Swim (which is actually a ratings hit for the network).

Except they've never actually cancelled it before? What's being described here is the response to scheduling delays and late-in-the-game renewal announcements. This is the first time the show's ever actually ended.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Yeah, they've never actually outright said it was cancelled. Usually reports of cancellation were just entertainment bloggers jumping the gun. As I said, it may get picked up by some online network but I doubt it's coming back. Though I do see Community becoming the next Firefly, with people talking about its unjust cancellation for years (A child born when Firefly premiered is in middle school now, yet people still talk about it).

It's honestly hard to call Community's cancellation "unjust". It lasted five years with abysmal ratings.

I'm glad Rick and Morty exists and is a huge hit on Adult Swim because that'll do a great job filling the void.

Seriously, if anyone here watches Community but hasn't seen Rick and Morty you really need to check it out. It's fantastic.

It is, but beyond the fact that both are self-reflective enough to put a hall of mirrors to shame, they really don't have much in common.

You know, it makes me wonder a little bit about the pros and cons of the internet fandom explosion. 40 years ago we did not have up-to-the-minute coverage of the lifespan of a show, and the average viewer didn't obsess so much over the ratings of their favorite show. Now with all the gossip sites and next day ratings reports fans obsess over the ratings just as much as the writers and producers. Sometimes stumbling over a show via Netflix or Hulu is preferable to watching it first run and stressing out over whether or not it'll be around in three months.

Reading up on the history of How I Met Your Mother, I found out it was dangerously close to cancellation in the third season but the final few episodes (partially sparked by a Britney Spears guest appearance) gave it the push into more stable ratings in the fourth season and beyond. I only started watching the show two years ago, so it was binging seasons 1-6 within a few weeks that got me hooked.

Community has always been a cult favorite and anyone who stumbles upon this show in the future isn't going to care about the ratings or behind-the-scenes drama, there is still a respectful 5 seasons worth of episodes to appreciate.

Yeah it... uh... was imperfect.

That said, there were still things for me to enjoy (like the finale having Annie's boobs).

But overall... yeah. Changnesia wasn't great, Britta and Troy was handled awfully. None of the episodes really stood out, and I did hate the paintball finale. Except for Evil Annie's boobs. Those are awesome.

I remember the only episode I liked was the one with them as Muppets.

I guess what got me most about it was that after three seasons of steady Character Development suddenly everyone was regressing left and right for the sake of comedy. And comedy that wasn't particularly funny either. I mean, it wasn't horrible just...meh.

Hulu might resurrect Community. Personally, I'm not excited for this. There's no way Hulu has the budget that even Community had and I would expect things to look cheap. I also would expect problems getting the entire cast back and things like that.

It's not like it would be after a very major hiatus, so there wouldn't be much time for everyone else to move on. Maybe Donald Glover would even decide he's comfortable returning. Troy and Abed would never be the same, but that's not necessarily a bad thing considering Abed's Abedness took over the show and Troy's identity.

I didn't mourn too much when NBC declined to re-order because I figured somebody somewhere would pick it up, but I'm starting to get fatigued from all the uncertainty. I want a sixth season and a movie just so we never have to talk about this again.

So what is the status of the asteroid? And I am rewatching the entire series now and in hindsight season 4 seems even better to me. I always thought it was decent. I do hope we get our 6 seasons and a movie though. But I must admit, I'm not entirely sure where they could go from the finale. Might have to do BBC seasons with four or five episodes. Still counts as 6 seasons and a movie.

Back when NBC was still "optimistic" about the chances of a 6th season, Dan Harmon said that he'd make the sixth season and movie happen even if it had to be done in his basement with sets held together with chewing gum.

I think the current status of the asteroid is that the missile to deflect it is being targeted.
