[up][up][up][up]I don't know anything about that. However, I found him similar to Hiramaru on that cover, which was a very weird thought.

[up][up]These manga that started weekly had already a past anime adaption to support a new anime. Furthermore, it still had material from the weekly manga yet to be adapted. They are not really good examples.

Yeah, technically, you can get 12 episodes material in a single year, but only if you do a strictly one episode per chapter anime (which isn't that common, even for monthly manga). Also, doing an anime as early would be bad, as it wouldn't have much material for a proper concise season.

You mention Blue Exorcist (which is a better example then To Love Ru, since it started as monthly), but even it took two full years before the anime to start. And most seem to take longer (all the others I know took about 4-5 years).

[up][up]Yes, only the weekly stuff has been adapted. Darkness is only 11 or so chapters in right now.

My main point, however, is that they can easily get an anime from a monthly manga.

Some of my examples took 3 years. Kiss X Sis started as bi-montly, so that took longer.

[up]Those are still rumors and back-room plans. They haven't materialized yet.

By "Darkness" you mean "To Love Ru Darkness"? Please be more specific, I am not familiar with the series, so it is not easy for me to understand (I had to google it).

Anyway, the new To Love Ru anime is using only material from the new manga? No material from the past manga or anything? Anyway, To Love Ru already had a popular season before, so it is not really comparable. Reversi is a completely new series, so an adaption can't exist unless there is enough material for that (even creating new stuff for the TV series is hard if you have so few manga chapters to work with).

Anyway, I never disagreed you can get an anime from a monthly manga. Just it usually takes more time to do so. Both because monthly manga are less popular and because it gets less material in the same time frame a weekly manga.

Yes, To Love Ru Darkness was the only manga mentioned with Darkness in the name, so I assumed everyone would know what I meant. There's a gap between the first and second TLR seasons that left a few things unexplained to those who didn't read the manga, but it reached the end of the weekly series. Therefore, if TLRD is getting an anime this early, it's using new content only.

And yeah, Reversi needs more time to amass popularity. I concede that point. Nobody says it can't become a ridiculous smash hit out of nowhere, though.

[up]It wasn't clear you were talking about something already mentioned in the thread. I am personally not familiar enough to To Love Ru to recognize the subtitle of its second season without a complete context.

If it left things unexplained, then part of the new season could be to explain these things. Even if the last season stopped at the same time frame as the previous manga, the skipped material can still be used for the new season with some adjustment. Furthermore, it is easier to create new anime stuff to complement the lack of material if you already has something to base on. Not to mention a sequel of an already popular season is a completely different thing from a new series.

Even a complete smash hit won't be enough to make up for complete lack of material. Although I guess it wouldn't be far fetched to have an anime in 1,5-2 years, I give you that. I was thinking in 4-5 years, myself, which is what I believe to be a more common time frame for a monthly manga to become anime (I wasn't aware of Blue Exorcist, which took only 2 years, at the time).

So... why wasn't Nakano also invited to this meeting? It's not like he's unrelated.

I guess just because he doesn't have any responsibility for Weekly Jump. Also, they called Hattori, Mashiro, and Takagi because they wanted to ask them their opinion on the switch, but Nakano's opinion wasn't that important for this decision.

I liked this chapter.

Especially when it hinges mostly on "huh, I didn't even realize that was an option". I mean, everyone was happier with this solution, and there was no real reason not to implement it, so why be dramatic about it?

But anyway, this is Oba and Obata. They CANNOT make something normal that isn't made way more epic than it should be. It's always bombastic, silly and glorious.

Actually, Death Note was pretty subdued. The manga, at least, was dramatic but never overly so. I think with Bakuman they're trying to make it more shonen and exciting, hence the epicness.

And thus the stage is set. And Takagi still has no balls; he finally joined up only when Mashiro and Hattori showed emotion in truly wanting to make the change for Reversi to take the first steps in going to become Jump's newest flagship title. From Ashirogi Muto, I think I like Mashiro better than Takagi, especially in the last few months when he's actually been able to grow a pair slowly but surely. Takagi's began to shrink down from a certain point I can't remember, but he does start to look a bit like a whimp.

Have you ever danced with tropes on the pale moonlight?

No, it's just that Takagi is the calculating type. It's not about what he wants to do, but what makes sense to do. Moving PCP to a new magazine and hoping the readers follow it is a risky proposition. PCP is a regular in the top 5, though only rarely number 1; it's established. Tossing away that amount of success in the hopes that Reversi isn't a flash in the pan is absolutely the more mathematically reckless course.

You can see the conflict pretty clearly, I thought. Mashiro is totally more that feeling type, and I guess Hattori too, though he seems more balanced than either of Ashirogi.

My guess for next subplot is: friction between the old and new assistants as to which ones get to work on which title, and jockeying for the best space in the now crowded studio. Maybe art school guy will attempt to get published on his own again.

After that, possibly the long-awaited subplot about getting your manga animated!

chapter 155

I did not think it was possible, but this manga just entered a new level of Meta-ness. Must say, I did not see that coming.

go read the version linked to at the top of the next page. This one is a un-funny joke in comparison (though the adult conversation made me grin).

Well, so far the title of this series hasn't really meant anything as far as I know. So now the title will make more sense, since "Bakuman" will be the main character, sort of.

I wonder if the increased focus on their original goal and the Title Drop imply that this is going to be final series they create. The one that "wins" and leads to the end of the series. Not that this necessarily happens quickly or anything.

[up][up]The inside cover of volume 2 gives several possible meanings for the title. The title of this series is just far too versatile to translate accurately.

In any event, that scanlation looks pretty bad from just the first page, so I'll just wait for Red Hawk.
