I wish season 2 of Kaiten Mutenmaru had gotten more attention and been printed in its entirety because it's one of the best shลnen manga I've ever seen. The series is currently the subject of my hyperfixation and I appreciate Sick as the best villain I've ever seen.

So APPARENTLY Studio Ghibli 2024 is gonna happen, at least according to Fathom Events. The lineup hasn't been announced nor is there anything on GKIDS' page.

Mamoru Hosodaโ€™s films have all been properly licensed by GKIDS. Theyโ€™ve tweeted theyโ€™re gonna give new theatrical and home releases to The Girl Who Lept Through Time, Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast, and, my favorite, Summer Wars.

Are there any good recommendations for romance anime that focuses more on the characters actually dating and less on teasing the Will They, Won't They?

As unusual as the situation is, I feel like 100 Girlfriends is a pretty strong contender for that, but I would like some more.

There's Kare Kano, Tsuki ga Kirei, Wotakoi, Shikimori, Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, Tonikaku Kawaii, Ore Monogatari, Tsurezure Children, 3D Kanojo and Gamers! off the top of my head.

...I can google search them so its fine, but isn't it considered best form on this site to use the English title if there is one?

I have seen Gamers! and Shikimori and I did enjoy those. Although Gamers! is maybe a little wackier then what I have in mind with this question.

I donโ€™t believe Iโ€™ve ever heard people saying itโ€™s โ€œbest formโ€ to use the English title on this site. I know them by their Japanese names, hence thatโ€™s what I call them.

In my experience it is usual in the Anime & Manga forum to use whatever title is most practical at the moment.

In the wiki, that is an other story.

Oh, hey, I watched Future GPX Cyber Formula (1991). They never dubbed it, so I had to watch subs. The opening to the anime episodes was fine, but I always preferred the opening to the 3rd OVA sequel, Future GPX Cyber Formula SAGA, which came out later.

Another of the last crop of decades-long super-manga has announced its upcoming conclusion - farewell, Kaiji.

Iโ€™ll confess I mainly just know it for its length - itโ€™s older than One Piece!

So, are they no longer dubbing any anime at all?

diddyknux (4 Score & 7 Years Ago)

Funimation was folded into Crunchyroll. That's been the case for I think two years now. This is just them finally ending all usage of the Funimation name.

Pretty sure from here on out, the only way you'll see it is if you purchase their back catalogue of older anime. And even then, some of those are out of print now.

I also mentioned on the previous page that numerous anime wonโ€™t be carried over to Crunchyroll as well. Some cause the studio is gone like Samurai Flamencoโ€™s creator Manglobe.

Hearing about Kaiji's ending brought me to Wikipedia's list of longest manga, and it really struck me how the vast majority of them are not only very obscure in the English-speaking fandom, but are also from genres that have made little to no headway in the West in general.

Most of them are episodic, which makes sense with the length of course, from genres like mystery, gag-a-day, and stories of people doing utterly ordinary jobs such as athlete or fisherman or chef. I wonder why, with how huge in Japan these series and genres clearly are, they never caught on elsewhere to the degree battle shonen, mecha, etc. did?

Holy heck, Kimi ni Todoke, that's not a series I was expecting to get a continuation. The last time I even remember watching it, I wasn't even married. It's been that long.
