Animals in general are often given honorifics, especially by children, so a guard dog getting an honorific isn't unusual.

Eh, I think it's sort of like how you're not supposed to give lab test animals names. You get too close to them. In this case, it might result in your guard dog getting too friendly.

Then again, a really small kid probably wouldn't understand that.

I suppose that would be the case for a guard dog that's not also a pet.

See Japanese Pronouns for that.

[up]That doesn't address the specific question I had.

The reason I asked was because I was engaging in some idle speculation about what a historical mystery book series I read would be like if there was a anime version. Come to find out, the book that inspired my original question has a Japanese translation. Unfortuantly while I can make out a few transliterated Japanese words from the resources here and on the internet, I can't read real Japanese writing.

Any Japanese language readers willing to flip through the Amazon Japan "Search inside this book" preview and answer a few questions about how some things were translated? I was mainly wondering about things like how they deal with the greater use of honorifics and hierchal language that the original English would not as much. Like would Flavia and Jonathan use formal language like -san with each other or be more friendly, how they would deal with master/slave relations, and how animals are refered to.

Not sure if the preview pages would be enough to get all that though.

What would be the appropriate form of address for a master addressing a slave and vice versa? I'm assuming the slave would use -sama, but what would the master use?

I believe it does. Check the "You" pronouns. A fair number of them are from master-to-servant, and would probably suit your purpose.

So I just finished Tenshi Ni Narumon.

That was trippy. It's a bit of a Lighter and Softer version of Utena or Princess Tutu in some ways. Also, trippy. (Ukk-kun and Lele-chan?)

So I was bored and ended up looking to see which Summer 2012 Anime titles didn't get a simulcast and only found 3 of the 25 (Ebitennote , Joshiraku and Kingdom).side-note

Is that low a number common? I mean, I can tell in one glance that more than 3 weren't picked up from the Spring 2012 Anime list, but...

I think quite a bit of anime is getting streamed online nowadays. I've heard some fansubbing groups wonder if they'll be necessary anymore.

I doubt fansubbers will stop, though. Just look at how many of them nowadays are basically Crunchyroll rippers.

Not everyone in the world can watch crunchyroll, you provincial person.

If fansubbers do become unnecessary, I'd count it as a win for the industry at large.

[up][up]The vast majority of the world can. When they can't include part of the world (Japan notwithstanding), it's typically because someone else is streaming it there.

I don't think there has been a slump in recent years. There's always been a fairly even mix of good and bad.

I mean, in the general opinion of things.

Like things that are actually interesting to more people in the west, now.

I guess Toonami coming back helps that.

It helps that the anime companies are becoming more and more reasonable as time goes on, Aniplex notwithstanding. They've also learned to adapt to the fanbase.

Now, if only manga publishers would learn...

What country are you in, Handle? I've been hearing that Spain and Italy seem to be getting screwed this season on CR.

I saw that post pre-edit. ;p

But yeah. I have no idea what's going on this season, but a lot of their shows this time around seem to lack some parts of Europe. Medaka Box cut out Europe entirely (it's being simulcasted for the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia).
