What's the S-DAT again?
The cassette player he always carries with him. Here's another thought from Eva Geeks:
"It broke after Mari crashed into Shinji during her roof entrance. Not that it matters because Rei holds the same symbolic significance of the S-Dat. Shinji isolating himself from everybody except Rei to avoid pain of the outside world."
Thoughts on this as well?
I would say that it does matter that the S-Dat broke when Mari crashed into Shinji, both as a symbol of her encouraging him to reach out to others and learn about the world, and as a plot device for Rei surviving inside of Unit-01.
I remember someone on Evageeks making a theory that Mari is meant to represent Anno's wife. The idea was that, first, just as Anno's wife helped and continues to help him with his depression, Mari is the one who continually encourages Shinji to grow instead of using or hating him; and secondly, Anno himself explicitly stated Mari is the only character that is not based on some part of him and that her purpose is "to destroy Eva". And finally, just as Anno did not know his wife back when he made NGE, Mari does not appear until 2.0, where the story begins to radically change.
Any thoughts?

Its easy to see Shinji throwing away the cassette player as throwing away his relationship with his father. Or rather, Shinji discarding the need he has for his father's approval. I'm sure there's some truth in that.
Its also true he latched onto Rei, but I don't think he was using it to supplement his feelings for his father, but something els that I seem to be having difficulty articulating into words.
I don't really know, though. Things can be or mean lots of things. Or nothing at all.
That is the shortest and most accurate explanation of Eva I have ever seen.

DISCLAIMER: I say the above with love. And a bit of annoyance, but mostly with love.

i never really felt the need to overanalyze all the supposed symbolism in Eva especially considering how i've heard most of the imagery is just for show anyway. taken at near face value, the show is still solid.
... Oooookay. That was Rei at the end in his hand, right?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Probably? Nobody seems to know anything about this vid.
I think they made it way too obvious that the EVA was alive. In the anime it's a lot more inconspicuous.
But it was beautiful. Especially loved the hands.
The face, though... she looks less like a ferocious monster and more like some kind of fish. Like a bass or a gruper.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Reads video title: What did Shinji do this time?
Watches video: Is that Fox Engine? Metal Gear Eva whe- OH FUCK!

I finally have decided that it would be a crime for me to not share this snapshot◊ of what I think is the most absurdly adorable Asuka I've ever seen. It's from a Rebuild doujinshi by Maniac Street, and the panel in question is right after Shinji surprises her by confessing that he's in love with her.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Awww!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Did she accept?
I don't know, does her having admitted that she's in love with him before he did count? note
EDIT: Oh, what the heck. Here, I collected the SFW pages that form the beginning of the doujinshi, with a couple of censor boxes in the last one to err on the side of caution (there's no nudity in said page, just... well, it should be obvious why I put those censor boxes).

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.More a fan of Shinji x Rei personally. Still doesn't detract from the links being cute though.
We get it, your a shinji and Rei fanboy.
Watch SymphogearWas that not obvious?
Anyways, do you guys think that the HD release of the original series this year will end up having any alterations besides being in high-definition?
Shinji shoots first?
I think you just described Rebuild.
On a certain level, the trollingest thing he can do is not change a single frame. That said, I'm willing to put down a couple bucks that at the end of remastered!End of Evangelion, the camera will pan over from the red ocean to show that line of tanks with their turrets pointed out to sea, the big splash will happen, and fade to black...
And then a teaser for "Re-Rebuild of Evangelion 108.108 – 102.553: You will (not (not (not))) understand: Electric Boogaloo", with lots more fanservice.

Wouldn't mind it if it includes a preview for the last film, if only to show that, yes, it is in production.
Can't wait to see the remastered Asuka vs. MP-Evas fight though. That was one of the highlights of the original series (minus the excruciatingly over-the-top gruesome death scene). I'm always a sucker for fights where the hero has to battle a horde of enemies by his/herself. It's why the Burly Brawl from The Matrix Reloaded, or that one scene from Gunbuster are some of my favorite fights.

Been scrolling through Eva Geeks again, and here's what they think of the Shinji/Rei relationship and the SDAT player symbolism in Rebuild:
"He's shown himself to be a cold contemptible person, and he's given up all attempts at understanding his father which is partially what the S-Dat represented, a futile attempt at reconcilliation. And, he's transplanted the love and affection he wanted from Gendo onto Rei."
Thoughts?
