MTG Variant Games

This is a secondary thread for games of Magic with variant rules, such as Star. Make sure you get familiar with the rules and deck legality of the game you're participating in.

Welcome, to TvTropes' very own Magic The Gathering game thread!

Let's get some things out of the way before we start. Newcomers, listen up. This isn't your standard wacky Forum Game.

This thread is for card games of Magic: The Gathering. It's generally expected that you use a shuffled deck with a minimum of 60 cards and maximum of 4 each of unique non-land cards. It's perfectly acceptable to play with cards you don't actually own; just use a program for randomizing and drawing cards. I use Magic Assistant for that. Exceptions to any of these things are fine provided you get consent of everyone involved.

Since the games will take place entirely in text, it's suggested that you use your posts to keep track of life totals, hand count, and everything in play. It may also be helpful to keep track of your hand by posting it as a spoiler. Please link to newly introduced cards using Gatherer. All that said, redundant information isn't necessary, especially since it can slow down a game.

Commentary, questions, and rules-lawyering is welcome. You shouldn't overdo it, but don't let your apprehensions get in the way of participating. If you're taking it a bit to far, we can let you know. Remember, there's a M:TG topic in the Table Top Games board. You're free to go there for lengthy off-topic discussions.

Finally, there should not be more than one game taking place at a time. If you want to start a game while another is in progress, either make a new thread, wait your turn, or ask permission. On second thought, nevermind. The thread seems to be fine with two games going on at a time.

I believe the rules say the Archenemy always goes first and does not skip his first draw, so I'll just be doing that. I suggest you guys convene via PM or Vent or something.

He made his threats, but my mind was already on better times. I remembered a fine young mage on a far-away plane, who led me back from the rolling fields where we met to her forest...already, the world around me was beginning to shift to accomodate my memories.

It felt like a lock on my mind—I tried to remember the good times with her, but I could not even recall her name. My thoughts drifted to an archipelago of my youth; I did not remember what happened there. Was she there? ...There was a pain in my side and a rotting smell, but I ignored it.

Not So Fast. Tap the Hierarch for Blue, tap the island, tap the forest...

One of those memories I thought I'd be better off without surfaced: a thick slime Lily (for that was her name, I remembered, thoughts clearing like the stream through her grove) had insisted would be "fun". Less so than you might think, as it happens. And yet, something about it was oddly...liberating.

Cast Voidslime, counter that triggered ability.

Oh, nevermind. Damn. XD

I came to a temple on the island. Was that her hand I felt, warmly, in mine, or just a piece of her power? In any case, there was a beautiful, forlorn angel roaming the grounds…I set her free with a burst of mana, but even in the warmth of my tent, she looked furtively at the corners and over her shoulder. I wish I could have protected her, but it lurked only in the corner of her eye.

Temple Garden, let it come into play tapped. Haunted Angel (tapping the Hierarch for white).
