Any Tropers on Second Life?

I'm a big Second Life fan. I know there are lots of weirdos and creeps and whatnot, but there's a lot of enjoyable stuff too. I especially like a game I play in Second Life that's like Pictionary but using the in-world building tool.

If there is already a general Second Life thread, sorry. If not, consider this to be it.

I'm Eriksson Hawks on the Teen Grid, counting down the days until December 31st so I can get off this polygonal rock.

Any recommendations on places to visit? I know for sure I'm going to stop in at Luskwood, Cubey Terra's shop, and the sailing sims when the grids merge...

Wait, the grids are merging? I hadn't heard that.

Well, places to visit. If you talk on voice, there's a little place called Voice-a-aholics, a small group of people who like talking on voice, and that's fun. If you like Second Life board games and other games in SL, you need to check out Dream Park for Free Games.

Search for Primtionary. It's the Pictionary game I mentioned and it's really awesome.

As far as I know, no, the grids aren't merging. That's the date at which Eriksson hits 18 and can leave the Teen Grid.

I visited for a couple days, found it bogged down my computer at the time far too much and wasn't that interesting, so I left.

-snerk- never played this game, but...there's a TEEN grid? It sounds like Scott Westerfield's book Uglies.

It's less a game and more a giant IRC cluster with a 3D environment, fully rendered avatars, and the option (and heavy encouragement) for user-created content. It really seems more like The Metaverse than anything else.

The Teen Grid is the area persons ages 13 to 17 inclusive are restricted to until they reach age 18, and has strict content rules. No-one under the age of 13 can enter due to the information required to ensure that you are who you say you are, combined with COPPA, which restricts what information you're permitted to request from those under the age of 13. Most commercial websites avoid this legal mess by simply not accepting those under 13.

On the internet it's routine to lie about being over 18, but did anyone else get started early enough to lie about being 13?

*sheepishly raises hand*

I mostly frequent dance club areas, while my avatar looks like my RL self crossed with ganguro/raver fashion. The name is Sarahsuke Ohmai, by the way.

@ Goggle Fox: Actually, I'd only be 16 by then. Teen Grid's being shut down, all over 16 get auto-transferred.

I want to revitalize this thread, although I haven't been able to go on Second Life much at all since I've been back at college.

I ask the same initial question: Any Second Life Tropers out there? What do you like to do in Second Life? I like trying to learn to build and script things. I have the official scripting guide, although it's hard for me since I had no previous programming experience.

Second Life costs too much, try Open Sim.

Necrothreading because this program has been a big part of my life for the past 6 years.

Second Life doesn't have to cost anything. It does if you want to OWN land, but there's plenty of in-system jobs that you can find. You can earn the cash you need inside the program and then spend it on whatever you want. And most of that "work" is really just talking to people or building stuff, and having fun in the world. It's what you'd be there for anyway unless you were into the sex side of the system. And even there, escorts aren't illegal so if you're good at that and grab a few posing and animation systems to use, you can still earn a shitton of Lindens.
