but she's definitely had copious amounts of character development since she didn't die. And she had (what she thought were) good reasons for each of those, even if common sense dictates that they were, in fact, not good reasons.
i maintain my stance that Vriska was mean to Vriska for what she thinks is a good reason. If Vriska was being mean to Vriska for the sake of being mean to Vriska, then I will be thoroughly upset by what might possibly be an obvious turn of events.

Vriska is mean to Vriska because Vriska has never really liked Vriska but now there's an external Vriska who on the one hand is Vriska but on the other hand is also a Vriska that has taken up a different ethos. The perfect hate sink for all the hate Vriska has for Vriska.

I'm browsing through Tumblr's homestuck posts and the grand majority are people freaking out about how horrible Vriska was, and about 15-20% of the other posts relating to Vriska are "she's kinda right tho" and then people freaking out about how awful anyone is who can defend Vriska.

Holy shit, where to begin with this update.
It's been fun.
Jesus. Jesus christ. That was profoundly uncomfortable. That was some Caliborn jeering Jane level shit. Vriska is basically at Caliborn's level in my eyes. She may even be worse since she's ostensibly supposed to be a "good guy".
Poor Fishka. Specially if Meenah does dump her as everyone is predicting. To be honest, I understand that. Fiska did lose all her "Vriska charm", and Meenah is all about liking the asshole ones. And Fish apparently is not even able to be nice while still being an ass like Karkat does.
New Vriska, meanwhile, is setting herself to some big fall. She was already doing that earlier, but I am reasonably sure karma will catch up with her real soon and she will be forced to confront the fact she haven't "grown up as a person" as much as she thinks she did (if at all).
what fucking development has Vriska had besides her boner growing over everyone fellatioing her and never learning that stuff she does will lead to bad ends since john ex machina stopped her.
meanwhile (Vriska) had almost everyone leave her and saw exactly what kind of person she looks like from an outside perspective ala Aranea and how that doesnt end well for anybody.
Id say its obvious which Vriska actually grew.
I think this update is to put an end on arguments of "Who's Alternia's Next Top Vriska".
I sincerely doubt we're supposed to agree with Livriska right now, since whether she's the 'Alpha' Vriska or not, she's not our Vriska.
Honestly, this feels like pure self-loathing to me. Like Bocaj said, Vriska's always hated herself on some (maybe a lot of) levels, and now she finally has an avenue to really let herself have it without having to admit that the things she's done might not have been necessary. I feel like there's an element of, what's the word... I feel like Live Vriska is half trying to reassure herself that Dead Vriska's choices aren't better than her own. She knows what Dead Vriska's done; Live Vriska doesn't have much to do to be relevant, honestly. She stopped some bad stuff happening on the Meteor, but probably not through any direct intentions. Now here's this other Vriska who's gotten over all the issues that controlled her and managed to make something, anything, different of herself, while also being one of the most important parts of the strategy to kill Lord English.
I maintain that Vriska's guiding philosophy is that there is a way that things have to be done, and that she does things the way she does because there's no other way they can be done. People like Tavros and Sollux challenged the confidence she had to force that killing other trolls to feed Spidermom was the only way to survive; now this dead Vriska is challenging her confidence that she has to be a heavy-handed 8itch to be relevant.
Basically, Vriska has many, many issues that need working out. A good hug or ten probably wouldn't go amiss.

Well, Vriska is trying to help people. Fighting for the greater good and all. Then again, she was already doing that by the time she died, and at last back then she was recognizing her flaws so I guess overall New Vriska actually regressed.
Vriska's ego is a fickler thing. It is really imbalanced so everything effects it negatively. When things are going wrong, she develops a Inferiority Superiority Complex, such in her very early appearancesnote , but when things are going well she just go full megalomaniac like right now. Is kinda sad and pathetic, really. Part of the reason I find hard to really hate her.
Incidentally, this is why I suspect Fishka might not come out any better after that. Maybe she did have a bigger Character Development than I suspect, but I think this shock might regress her as well.

@Ninety: Yeah, and a Nobilis before that. Basically, if you have Shine some other schmuck acting on your behalf or orders or somesuch can use your levels in Shine as their skill level for whatever they're doing. So maybe Roxy doesn't have a skill that's handy for inspiring speeches, but she can use John's Shine to get a bonus.
