Unless that position is taken by the Condesce or Meenah, in which case Kanaya can be the seamstress. That's an important job.

Miss Kitty will of course be Madame Muriel. Kanaya can be the town seamstress, Rose is Terezi's partner in pursuit of a bounty, Rose needs to get her clothes fixed, boom Meet Cute.

Dave can be Terezi's partner. She and John, the son of the entrepreneur who just moved to town, are his friends but really are just in cahoots to embarrass him as much as humanly possible. Along with his brother. Dave isn't allowed to not be embarrassed, ever.

Every now and then I go to 4chan because I just "have" to have those hour 1 reactions to some new hotness. Every time I realize "oh right, that's why I don't usually go to 4chan".

I'm going to agree with Ninety.

In regards to 4chan, I'm not very active online, outside of TV Tropes, my Tumblr time has just been me keeping a low profile, and I don't usually chat anywhere else.

Can you elaborate? What's a 1 hour reaction?

I mean I could be cliche and suggest Roxy be the barkeep but that would be even WORSE.

Well, I suppose Roxy was as much an alcoholic as Rose, but the way they went about it was pretty different.

It actually wasn't? Their reasons for touching alcohol in the first place were pretty much identical (crippling loneliness/sadness/nerves/whatever) and even their drunk personas are fairly similar (it's just that for Rose, that's not really her default state, unlike Roxy).

It's like, say, a cool new Gunnerkrigg Court update just happened but the comments on the site won't be up for a while, and there's already fifty and counting over at 4chan and I've been up way too late so why not sate my thirst for glorious glorious reactions over there?

I mean, the way the story and other characters treated it. With Roxy, at least in the beginning it was just funny and quirky. Rose was just sad all the way.

I think that an idea that might be interesting for a fan session would be to have a character who is never described in any detail, so, you would know they exist, and their dream moon by symmetry, and probably also have a good idea of their gender, also by symmetry, but never specify their name, their title, or any detail about their interactions.

Their existence would be implied due to references to the number of players, and they would be implied to mostly act like any other player, because the narration would say things about what is true of all players in the session, for example in the black king fight. There might be difficulty due to references to the prototyping though.

Also it would be tricky to avoid mentioning them specifically during the ectobiology, if ectobiology "ancestors" are things when there is not a scratch.

On the other hand, this might just be a really dumb idea, and lead the reader to expect that there will be some twist when the character is revealed, or otherwise expect the character to be important.

Kind of violates the gun on the shelf thing?

I don't write, so I don't know how bad an idea this would be.

The session would probably have to have at least 8 players for it to not stick out too bad, and it looks like larger fan session ventures are more difficult. Beyond 12 I have not seen a successful fan session, so 8 10 or 12.

Though, this probably would quite poorly as the main gimmick of a session, so it would probably have to be combined with something else. And even then it seems quite likely that it would be a terrible idea.

The way the narrative and other characters treat something and the way the characters themselves "go about it" are not the same thing.

If you could pull it off, it might be interesting as a character's gimmick, but not a whole session's gimmick. The session itself I would assume would have more interesting things going on than that.
