Rose's folly is that she's intelligent and she's aware of the fact. She wouldn't think that she was being played by a person telling the truth 100% of the time.

[up]Rose knew she was being manipulated, just not what Scratch wanted out of it.

Related: counter to the Go Mad from the Revelation interpretation of the whole cueball grimdark thing, my theory is that Scratch did something with the ball.

I never understood why anyone would trust anything the cueball says or does because it's well-established they're related to and controlled by Scratch. Rose knew he was manipulating her (although not to what extent, clearly), so it admittedly doesn't make sense that she'd trust the cueball.

I thought her folly was trusting a creepy midget.

Go figure.

The cueball is not controlled by Scratch. Scratch is part cueball. The cueball just does what an 8ball doesn't and always tells the truth. He can make it explode but we haven't seen that he can make it lie.

He told Rose to ask it about the true nature of the horrorterrors and OH BIG SHOCK! THERE ARE SOME THINGS (WO)MAN IS NOT MEANT TO KNOW? YOU THINK?!

So, yeah. She's an idiot. She should have known better. She's a fan of the kind of lovecraftian shit that tells you that that would have been a bad idea.

She's not stupid, she just lacks common sense and listens to the Id too much for her own good.

The two are not mutually exclusive. And I never said he made it lie specifically (that would be a bit out of step with his character). He clearly can control them to some degree as he made Vriska's explode. We merely don't know how his control over them works.

I can't really disagree with anything Boxcar is saying. Rose isn't as smart as she thinks. (Where is the proof of her smarts anyway? That she reads and plays psychotherapist and has a big vocabulary? The only thing I can think is that she ALMOST tricked Dave into staying behind.)

all i'll say is that INT and WIS are separate stats

Chloroform doesn't work that way. You have to hold it over someone's mouth and nose. You can't just bonk it off their head.

The two are not mutually exclusive. And I never said he made it lie specifically (that would be a bit out of step with his character). He clearly can control them to some degree as he made Vriska's explode. We merely don't know how his control over them works.

Probably not like that. He told her to ask something that would bork her mind and she just did. Even though she should know better. Its almost as sad as the Tavros hate.

[up][up]I'd concur with this interpretation. Rose has very high INT but relatively low WIS.

I don't think we should question that Rose is intelligent. I mean, we obviously won't get the time to see her do advanced calculus, but I think it's safe to assume she was reasonably smart but being in the position she was in didn't exactly do wonders for her sanity.

Well, Rose clearly has all the trappings of a well-informed intellectual. This carries with it certain implications of intelligence, which are supported by her demeanor in various chatlogs and her approach to the game in general.

Are we seriously arguing about whether or not Rose was tricked by Scratch? I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened.

[up]No, we were debating whether that makes her an idiot (NO!) and, more briefly, how she was tricked by Scratch.

No, we're arguing over the exact moment when the tricking happened. Because it's critically important that we can quantify exactly how bad an idea it was for Rose to talk with Scratch.
